Dr. Prof Weiner lives and works in Frankfurt Germany and is one of the leading RNY surgons in the world. He is professional in every way and dedicated to his work and patients. He took the time to spend and chat with me during his visits and was concerned along each aspect of the hospital stay. Over all, I would highly recommended Dr. Weiner and his staff.

Update - 20 months on and I am doing extremely well - BMI 26 and in very good health so far.
Prof Weiner e-mails me in response to my questions and is always helpful.
Do I still recommend my surgeon 20 mnths down the line?
Yes, without a doubt.

Professor Weiner is a great surgeon, and I would highly recommend him. He is somewhat quiet and reserved. His assistant, Pommy (a short version of his name) makes up for that big time. He is hilarious. They are a great team, and I felt taken care of completely.

I would hate to be Prof Weiner's wife, because I don't know if he ever goes home. He checked on us all the time, constantly making sure we were ok. That included weekends.

He gave us lots of information regarding supplementation, and he highly recommended going online for more information. He answers e-mails very quickly.

I would have liked more information about supplements available IN GERMANY, since that is a real problem. He asked me for help with that, to please let him know what I find out. No problem, I will do that. Happy to help my fellow DSers.

Well, I too am a military spouse and have done my research on physicians in the Germany area and by far Prof Dr Rudolph Weiner surpassed them all in competency, and experience. There are different physicians that arent doing such a good job and if you want to make sure you are making the right decision and it is YOUR decision about the surgeon, make sure you do your research and feel good with your decision. I had my consultation today with him and set my surgery date. I have been emailing Dr Weiner and HE ANSWERS! I was initially scheduled right in the middle of my vacation but was willing to make the sacrifice to get an appt with this dr. But I told him my situation and he saw me the next day. Yes he was busy but he totally went out of his way to accomodate me. He is a very nice man and I am very confident in him as my surgeon.
He would speak German to his staff then repeat what he said to me. The staff is very friendly.

Professor Weiner was really a great person to meet and he was informative and very personable. I was very nervous at first, but he seemed to be very concerned about putting my mind at ease and letting me know whatever I needed to know.

My first impression of him was that he's definitely a man who loves helping people. He's very personable, yet professional. The staff were great. Since everyone is German, there's a bit of a language barrier, but between both parties trying, it was no problem really. I guess the thing I liked the least about him was his beard. (important huh?) I just don't like facial hair on men. Future patients should ensure that they take a CHAMPUS claim form with them. It will help the staff. Aftercare is important to him, although I can't say he spent alot of time talking about it. Maybe when I go in the hospital. He did address the risks of surgery very clearly. However, when you go for your initial consultation, you should already have done some leg work and have a good idea of what you are getting into. I would definitely rate him a 20 on a scale of 1 to 10. He's Wunderbar!!! You can't really seperate surgical competence or bedside manner. It's like wearing only 1 shoe. You must have both in order to be classified a great surgeon!!

My first impression of Prof. Weiner was that he knew exactly what he was doing. He did an endoscopy on me and it went so well my confidence in him was boosted considerably. I felt very confident that he was technically competant and as time went on and we went through the surgery, my feelings were proved true. I was a difficult case but he did an excellent job on me.
His bedside manner is good. He took time to explain to me the nuances of my surgery. He was very kind to me. My only complaint, if you could even call it that, is that I wished he could have spent a little more time with me.
The risks of surgery were addressed by his colleague and it was comprehensive.
There is no structured aftercare program but the Prof e-mails me and chases me up to monitor my progress!

Overall I rate my surgeon highly and feel that he is extremely competant.I'd recommend him to anyone.

He seemed very compasionate and willing to negotiate through the insurance bueracracy to make sure I was "helped".
His office staff was helpful and courteous. He never discussed any risks of the surgery. He discussed the difference between banding and bypass surgery. When I asked about the removal of the gallbladder, he said that he would have to determine that after the scope appointment. He said that normally it is not needed to remove the gallbladder. This is contrary to what I was hearing from other patients in the waiting room, but I'll wait to see what happens. He said he only does one surgery per day so he doesn't "go crazy". <joke> I thought this was prudent considering the amount of patients that are requesting the surgery. I'd be afraid if he did a dozen a day. My opinion of him is neutral at this point.
**I am now postop 3 weeks. I have grown to truly respect and admire Dr. Weiner. This man is awesome! He is so genuinely concerned about his patients. I saw him EVERY day I was in the hospital-including WEEKENDS! He seemes almost proud that you are feeling better and extremely happy. He is genuinely involved in your healing process and always has a giant smile or soft touch on your arm. His support surgeons are remarkable also. Dr. Pomhoff has a contagious laughter and makes you feel better as soon as he walks into the room. Dr. Jololli, the anethesiologist is also wonderful and extremely compasionate. They are consumate professionals and I feel truly blessed to have been treated by them.
Dr. Weiner gave me a pamphlet before surgery concerning the risks and regime to follow. I'm assuming because of a minor issue with communication, that I was given this pamphlet to make sure I understood everything. I believe I read at least four different documents concerning risks and aftercare BEFORE the surgery. I'm certain that at this point I could've backed out if I wanted to. I was also given a pamphlet for aftercare. He verbally mentioned drinking plenty of water. I've only wanted water, so this hasn't been a problem.
Bedside manner is superior and surgical competence as well.
I think that the only thing potential patients should know about Dr. Weiner is that he is quiet and somewhat stoic. Don't let this sway your choice to have him treat you. There is a minor communication issue because he is German and I'm sure he feels pressure to insure that patients know everything before they actually have surgery. I'm sure this is why you receive so much stuff to read the night before surgery.

He seems like a really GREAT guy. He seems truely concerned with making me a healthier person. He also has a sense oh humor which makes me feel a ton better!

The people in his office were all very friendly and willing to help. They all spoke english very well. They also gave me several numbers to call in case I have any questions and Dr. Weiner even gave me his email address.

I thought it was a little stange that they dont do any tests until the day before surgery. From what Ive read from other people, there are months of tests to go through beforehand.

If you go see him, ask a lot of questions. MAke a list before you go. Im not sure if he was just in a hurry because he was needed elsewhere, but he didnt get into the surgery or aftercare. He asked if I wanted kids, how much i weighed and if i smoked. Then he said he does it so theres only a little scar, then ran out and left us with his assistant to make the apointment. She answered all of our questions though.

I can't say enough about how good an experience it was with Dr. Weiner and his team at the hospital. It was great.
