Today -June 7th, my father and I met with Dr. McMahon and I absolutely love him!!! He was so attentive and I appreciated the fact that he had his own concerns about my surgery and he was willing to express them. Before coming, my father was very apprehensive and felt like the surgery was a bad idea. However, after meeting with Dr. McMahon, all of his fears were gone and he was glad that he flew all the way from GA to NC to meet with my surgeon. The most wonderful thing about Dr. McMahon is that even though the office is very busy, he made it seem like I was only priority of the day and that made a difference.!!!
4/22/04--After my surgery was over, he came to see me twice a day and sent surgical residents to check in on me as well. All of the professionals at the hospital were competent and very compasssionate. Dr. McMahon's bedside manner is that of a family member rather than a physician. He is very caring an encouraging. He knew that I could be succcessful and told me just how to get there. I would rate him a 5 out of 5 points with 5 being the best. Also, the hospital stay was not as bad as I had planned for.
I am very impressed with Dr. McMahon, Dr. Grant, and Dr. Pryor at Duke WLS Center's practice. They are expert, knowledgeable, compassionate. They put me at ease very quickly and answered all of my questions. The office staff is generally helpful. I would rate them very highly. I would like to see their post-op program expanded and developed more, although they have been doing that by setting up their own online forum, they have monthly support group meetings, and have a chat function.
Dr. McMahon was terrific. He is completely prepared and focused. I had anticipated Dr Grant but the staff ecplained that they team for optimum results. Dr. McMahon reviewed my file for himself before authorizing the surgery and seems to have a very holistic view of what it takes to make this sort of transformation.
I was fully at peace with Dr McMahon. He is extremely clear, focused and committed to doing everything possible to make this succesful. I know that despite the volume of work- of paitents- that he recognized me as a human being. I feel very fortunate to have had this team.
The aftercare program is important-- as are the connections made with others that have gone through the program.
How would I rate Dr. McMahon? Five stars-- surgical competence and bedside skills both great.
Dr Ross McMahon was the most caring, supportive, honest and strait-foward doctor I have ever had. He honestly cares for the patient, he goes out of his way to check in on them and the first sign that something is wrong, he takes action. He kept my family appraised of my situation and he kept them calm.
I liked dr. mcmahon instantly. he came across as bright, kind and thoughtful, and i could sense the human being behind the white jacket. pre surgery he was honest and frank about what we could expect, including those things that could go wrong. i also met with dr. grant, dr. mcmahon's partners. it appears that dr. grant largely plays the role of elder statesman, which he does quite well. post-op i continue to find dr. m. encouraging and reassuring.
the duke office is clearly overworked, and as a result staffers can be short and dismissive on the phone. they claim to have a web-enabled system that updates your status, but after the initial entry mine was never updated. none-the-less, i was often initially met with a brusque "check the web" when i called to inquire about insurance or other matters.
flip side is that the office generally functions quite well, and they were great at processing insurance. also, the physician's assistant, with whom patients have a lot of contact, is lovely to deal with.
for me the most imporant thing was the competence of my doctors, and on that front i have no complaints. i think dr's grant and mcmahon tend to be a bit conservative, which made me very comfortable. always felt i was in the best of hands.
A little young at my first appt.
But after my Pre-op appt. I felt much better about how young he seems. Confident on the work he has performed.
Office staff is a little less than to be desired but It is a busy place and I know hundreds of people are trying to get in there. They seem a little rushed and busy all the time.
Dr. McMahon emphasizes aftercare as an extreme importance. They will be with me every step of the way.
Dr. McMahon addresses the risks straight up, he wanted me to know everything.
I think he is a great professional and an expert in his field
I'm actually assigned to Dr. Ross McMahon who practices with Dr. John Grant.
I have now met Dr. McMahon and Dr. Grant. Dr. McMahon has led both of my group meetings. He seems very knowlegable and kind. He is relatively new to the bariatric arena but a specialist in laproscopic surgery and he now does bariatric surgery 100% of the time. Dr. Grant seems very concerned that we know the risk of surgery as well as the risk of staying the way we are. I found that he put the risks in perspective for us in everyday terms which was very helpful.
I'm now 3 weeks (almost) post op and I have to say I really have been impressed with Dr. McMahon. He was attentive during my stay in the hospital and has been nothing but positive.
