I enjoyed my meeting with Dr. Blackstone. She was very easy to talk to and extremely interested in me as a person, not just a patient. This was very reassuring. I am very confident that choosing her as my surgeon is the best decision I could have made. Dr. Blackstone explained everything that the program entails and was very emphatic about being committed to the program. She stressed the importance of aftercare, the risks of the surgery and what could be expected. This is a 'tool' and not a fix-all for a desperate dieter. Overall, I think you will succeed if you follow the program and listen to what she says.

I used to be a mortician. So, to be quite honest doctors dont impress me. MD = Minor Diety..That was my view point most of the time. But, when I met Dr. B I was really impressed. She put up with my questions about what kind of sutures she was going to use and what kind of trocars and cameras were involved. She was very precise and easy going with a damn good bedside manor. I couldnt imagine doing something this drastic with any other doctor. Believe me, Ive seen what doctors have screwed up on. It aint pretty...

Dr. B is very caring, compassionate and thorough. The more I speak with with her, the more impressed I am. Thanks to her thoroughness in requiring a mammogram for her female patients I was prevented from deforming surgery when a fibroadenoma was found early(benign tumor).Noreen, her office manager has been great at working with the insurance company. The only thing I dislike is having to wait so long for surgery (6 months since the seminar to my date). But this is due to her popularity as a result of her surgical ability- so really no bad thing at all.She has a structured aftercare program with both online and in person meetings. Dr B explains all surgical risks and is so complete in her pre-op evals that she minimizes risks to her patients. On a 1-10 scale- a 15!!! I think a good Dr. need both surgical competance and a good bedside manner, which Dr B. has!

I was totally impressed with Dr. Blackstone and her medical team. Dr. Blackstone has totally devoted all of her time to this specific surgery and provides a comprehensive before and after program along with it. The entire office team is just that, a team. Everyone of the staff treat you with warmth and compassion. You are not a number here, you are a person.
I cannot think of anything I could say I dislike about the doctor or the office team.
My first visit with the doctor lasted for just over an hour where we discussed every aspect of the surgery and the post surgical progress. We reviewed all the medical risks involved and I felt comfortable with my decision to continue with the surgery. I will be attending the support group meetings the doctor has even before the surgery.
My rating of Dr. Blackstone on a scale of 1 - 10 would be 12+++++.

My initial visit will be Oct. 31,2002. I have gone to her seminar though and I really like her. She seems to be a very direct and cautious person. I like that fact that she double checks for leaks in the staples and things of this nature the very next day instead of waiting for something bad to happen.
She has never lost a patient yet, or had any real serious complications. She is demanding about aftercare. We have mandated suport groups that we have to attend. She has a very structured care system that we have to follow. I meet her head nurse and she seemed very nice (she had the surgery also 2 years ago) I have also talked to the office managerand she seemed very nice also.
Overall I am very excited about working with these people, I have a lot of cofidence in them so far. I can't wait. Wish me luck.

After 2 false starts with other surgeons, I have found the right one. The first MD stopped with Cigna before I could even make an appointment. The 2nd stopped the week before my first appointment. And am i ever glad. Dr. Blackstone is a real human being. I am much more impressed with the professionalism in her office and with her. The Scottsdale program is relatively new - less than 1 year as of May 2002 but seems very well set up. Almost all her surgeries are lap RNY and the Bariatric Center seems to consider positive support before and after a necessity

My sister and I attended the open seminar at the Scottsdale Bariatric Center last month. Very imformative. Dr. Blackstone spoke openly and honestly about the risks associated with the surgery and the risks associated with remaining obese. She seems to be a caring, thorough professional.
The Scottsdale Bariatric Center is dedicated to bariatric surgeries and has a complete program in place. They even have arranged for special hotel rates for out of town patients post op so we can stay within a reasonable distance of the hospital should any complications arise.

Dr. Blackstone is the absolute best. Patient, knowledgeable and up to date. I trusted her immediately upon meeting her. She is very enthusiastic and invested in this procedure. Months have gone by and I still trust, admire and respect her. Her staff (some of them) are new to this, but all seem to have good hearts and enthusiasm and professional and prompt responses. So far, I have discovered nothing about Dr. B. to not like. She is a remarkably dedicated person in whom I'm very comfortable putting my health and life.
She is no nosense. She follows the rules and fully expects and demands that her patients do also. There is a strucured after care program at the hosptial. Very postive and helpful. She not only addresses the surgical risks, she even gives a test before surgery to test your knowledge of them. Out of a possible 10 she is a 10. I'd give higher, but 10 was the best, after all. I'm not certain she has an equal in either surgical competence or bedside manner. I truly love and admire her bunches.

My first impression of Dr. Blackstone was that she was very well educated on this subject, very organized, professional and very clear on describing WLS.

Her staff is excellent and quick to help with any problems or questions.

I have liked everything about Dr. Blackstone so far. If you are a future patient of her you will be very well taken care of.

I'm still pre op...so more info to come soon.
