Dec. 06: Future patients beware this doctor and his center Caremax -Peconic Bay Bariatric Center. Dr Rubenstein/Peconic Bay Medical center used my picture in three national magazine to advertise Peconic Bay wls center without my knowledge. Dr. Rubenstein orginally did my wls, but I haven't been treated by him for wl in over three years. In addition to this, I never participated in his program Peconic Bay Bariatric Center. My surgery was in 2003, this center opened in 2005. I had my wls surgery at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. And never participated with the program at Peconic Bay Medical Center. rnrnSo if you are shown any before and after pictures of Peconic Bay bariatric patients be weary.rnrnHe and his staff were aware that I have told only those closest to me that I had wls. Talk about blasting my personal information for everyone to know. I just want to put this out there so future patients are aware of this doctor and his staff unethical behavior. Beware future Caremax - Peconic Bay Bariatric Medical Center patients !!!!!rnrn rnrn

I was originally supposed to be operated on by his partner Dr. Metha. At the last minute they pulled a switch on me. They very much emphasize the aftercare program and support group that they run at the hospital. I have nothing but good thoughts about him and her and they prepared me for surgery and told me about the risks associated, ect. I would highly recommend them.

I was so nervous when we first met him! He turned out to be the most warm hearted, caring man who practices medicine I ever ever know! He is wonderful to his patients. During the Blackout during th summer he was so concerned about my well being due to a possible tear in my incision he left me several messages on my cell phone leaving his HOUSE number if I need to get int ouch with him!! WHat an amazing gentle man he is. He is a life saver and couldnt ask for a more caring DR. cant say enough about him :)

I was very nervous, but Dr. Rubenstein was very nice. The whole staff at his office are very nice and I felt very comfortable. It was the first time I wasn't afraid or embarrassed to get weighed. I like that every step is very outlined and specific. Every time I went to his office, I was given hand-outs describing everything from diet, to exercise, to what to expect afterwards. I really like the fact that everything you need to have done is in his office or in the same building.

My initial impression of Dr. Rubenstein was that he was very kind, caring, and totally non-judgmental of obese people. The office staff was wonderful, including nurses Sally and Georgia, receptionist Terry, and coordinator Joanne. I had to travel 4.5 hours from my home in Massachusetts, and they have been very helpful in helping me schedule my appointments to make sure that I don't have to leave my house very early, etc.
There is a nutritionist, Lisa, who they schedule for you. She was nice, but I do have to say I have had a difficult time in contacting her after our two visits via email (she told me to contact her via email w/ questions, and she never replied). To be fair, I have not called her. I am on a first name basis with many of the staff, which is unusual.
My surgery went well - I had some pain, maybe a 5 out of 10, and it went away within about a week. I had NO vomiting, minimal nausea, and my incisions are healing up nicely (almost 2 weeks post op). I went back to the doctor at 1 week post op and he was his usual kind, gentle self.
He also has a support group meeting twice per month (once for bypass and once for lapband patients) I have been to both. He is a very experienced and informed doctor. He also schedules aftercare - as I said, my first post op visit was quick, but he was nice as always and very kind and caring.
I rate Dr. Rubenstein GREAT overall, and I also rate his staff great. These people have been a godsend to me.

8/1/01- i met with Dr. rubenstein on 7/30 and found him to be a quiet spoken and caring man. the first person i met when i came into the office were his receptionist personel. i was greated by my first name as if i had been there all my life. i sat down to begin filling out the mound of papers (but that was why they asked me to come 1/2 hour earlier than my scheduled appt.), i hadn't been sitting there 5 minutes when the dr.R walked in. i next met with his assistant joanne who weighed and measured me and she sat down with me for the next 35 minutes letting "me" talk, she listen, and asking questions as well as answering mine. dr.r came in and joanne caught him up to speed. we discussed at length my special circumstances with the low ejection fraction & chf. he told me that he wanted to schedule a "muggascan" to see if the EF had gone up from 1/03. with it being 22% he wouldn't do/recommend the surgery. if it has gone up.....well we have to wait and see. i like the fact that he was very upfront with me. and the fact the fact that he would probably only do the lapband for me if i had any proceedure done. i have an appt. today at 6pm for my scan. it was supposed to be 4:15pm but the office called to push it back. okay............i'll talk to you in a few days. i'm soooooo excited and nervous at the same time.
