Prithvi Legha Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.
I have only met with Dr. Legha once for my original consultation. He is easy to talk to and a great listener. He is easy to smile and quick to laugh. He has a big heart that he wears close to the surface. I liked him at first glance.
Dr. Legha took a lot of time with both my husband and myself. He explained why I should have the open surgery as oppsed to the lap. He expalined that I need to lose 30 plus pounds, and that he will do everything in his power to see to it that my surgery is a success.
Dr. Legha expained the risks involved with this surgery, and I told him that as long as God wants me here I'll be here, and when
God calls me home I'll go home. Nothing anyone can do here on earth will effect that. Dr, Legha said he believes that too. I knew he was a great guy!
I have seen Dr. Legha twice making rounds in the hospital or working with his staff. Dr. Legha seems to be a very warm and kind person. I would say he is nurturer to everyone around him.
Dr. Legha really knows his stuff, and presents himself well. I am looking forwared to seeing his caring bedside manner. The rumor mill says he is the best surgeon around, so I feel at ease that I am in good hands.
I don't know this for sure, but I suspect Dr. Legha has a dog at home that loves him very much : )
My first impression was when I saw him at an orientation and felt "this man is going to change my life." When he ended up being the surgeon assigned to me, I felt positive about him. His bedside manner is not the best, but he is a good surgeon with an excellent reputation. He honestly addresses the risks and need for behavioral changes. He was very negative when I had difficulty losing 10% of my weight before surgery, but we got past it after the first "scolding". I would trust him to do my surgery, without hesitation, but don't look for him to handle anything on an emotional level.
First impression is that Dr. Legha is competent and knowledgable. My first impression has not changed over the short time I have been in his care. His support staff and the staff of the whole bariatric group are hard-working and available. I don't really have any dislikes concerning Dr. Legha. Future patients of his should know that he is very straight-forward about risks and possibilities. The whole bariatric group at Kaiser emphasizes aftercare as the most important tool in all of this, and I have to agree. They have a very highly structured aftercare program at Kaiser. Dr. Legha and the others addressed the risks involved with the surgery and afterwords honestly and straightfoward. I would rate them overall as efficient and knowledgable and dedicated to what they do. I feel surgical competence is most important, but Dr. Legha is competent in both that and his bedside manner.
I will meet with my surgeon for the first time on May 28, 2002.
My first meeting with Dr. Legha was on June 6, 2002 (the 5/28/02 appt. was cancelled). He is a really nice person. Very quiet and soft spoken. I was able to get one smile out of him. He is referring me for surgery and will put me on his waiting list.
Dr. Legha gave me the go ahead, my surgery is on 7/15/02. I met with him for the second time on 7/9/02. He is a really sweet man. Dealing with him makes me forget all the other drama I had to go through with Kaiser to get this far. I highly recommend Dr. Legha.
8/7/02 - I just want to say how wonderful Dr. Legha is. He did an outstanding job with my surgery. He is truly one of Kaiser's best surgeons. Thanks Dr. Legha.
I had Dr. Legha who was knolegable about the surgery. very assuring. came and vist his patient every morning and every evening. Compasonate, but upfront.
Office staff wonderful so was nurse's at the hospital.
I believe kaiser has an excellent care before and after surgery.
He acknoledge the complications of surgery and what could lower the risk of those complications. how losing weight before would be safer for me and also help him.
I dont think he suger coated anything which is not what i wanted.
Dr. Prithi Legha was the surgeon. He did not do a competent job monitering my daughter's post op care. My healthy 31 yr. old daughter died recently 10 days after her bariactric surgery. This was a sensless loss to humanity. She was bright, active and had no serious health effects at the time of her surgery. She felt it was worth the risk - it was not! Her death has ruined my life and the lives of many others have been affected.
She was not started with liquids & food in a timely manner (he waited 4 days), giving her intestine time to collapse. At 6 days she was still not holding down liquids, her IV's were clogged and she was left without fluids and blood thining drugs for at least 10 hrs., she may have gone as long as 20 hrs., making her severely dehydrated. Her leg cuffs had been removed, she had quit walking due to abdominal pain and was given no help. These are known causes of blood clots and that is what occurred.
This man changed my life, I will be forever be in his debt.He is kind, sincere, and a nice dry sence of humor. He spent over 71/2 hrs working on me trying to make a lap proceedure work for me, but had to eventually open me up for I was leaking at stomach/intestine conection and needed to see what was going on, he also took gall bladder in this procedure too.that was nearly twice the amount of time usually taken for this proceedure and I feel he really tried to make the lap work for me.He then had another surgery after me so that was another 3-4 hrs bent over one of us in a day.His bedside manner is exceptional and listened to me with care and met all my needs.
Dr. Legha is a righteous dude and I would recomend him to anyone seeking this proceedure.
