Peter Hallowell Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
Dr Hallowell is a great Physician/Surgeon. He seems to really care for you as a person. I have had to see him several times since surgery due to an opening that needed to be packed daily. He listens very well. I would rate him as a 10. The staff in the office is great also. I wonder if it would be helpful to see the dietician from time to time. Maybe that comes at the 6 mo. visit. I have felt very comfortable with him being my Doctor.
I was pleased with my first visit with Dr. Hallowell. I had done a lot of research on bariatric surgery prior to the appointment and so was prepared to hear the risks and benefits of the surgery which he did explain. I had my medical records sent over prior to the apointment so everything was there that was needed to evalute my situation. that made it easier and quicker. While waiting for my appointment I observed other patients who had already had the surgery. They all seemed to know one another and were very open and friendly and optomistic. that made me feel very good about this decision and the program at University Hospitals. The only negative so far is that I had to wait an hour after my appointed time before I was called in. Since I was trying to squeeze the appointment in on my lunch break, that meant I have to make up quite a bit of extra time.
Great Bedside manner. He and the staff have been fantastic and consistent. My impression has only changed for the better if anything. He is a wonderful doctor with a personality to boot. I have had to contact him with little aches and pains that scare me and it has always been at midnight or on a weekend...he makes me feel like I am entitled to call him and not actually imposing on his personal life. He places a heavy emphasis on risks and aftercare. I did a lot of research and talked to a lot of people and I know that I made the right choice in physicians.
I just had my first consult with Dr. Hallowell today. He was very friendly and warm. He shared a great deal of important information, but I didn't feel overwhelmed when left. In fact, he is one of the first doctors I've ever felt a sense of security with.
There is a structured aftercare program at UH. I have learned a great deal from the pre-op support group. I know this is a process, not just a procedure.
Dr. Hollowell was very open about surgery risks. In fact, at the support group there was a woman who went through the surgery twice because of a fistula. Everyone is nice, but REAL! I didn't feel like I was being sold something.
As far as something negative to say, I may have more after surgery. But, so far I have had nothing but a positive experience.
First impression: He was nice.He also said I had one of the best diet histories he has ever seen.I explained I was well educated about the procedure, and asked a couple of questions, which he answered well. This first meeting was a bit informal, but I will update as we move along.
3/18/03 Dr. Hallowell did my surgery on 3/11.One thing I can say is that he means business, and he knows his job well.
he was very friendly.it hasn't.His office staff were very friendly and informal.Nothing.That he takes pride in his work. They are very diligent about following all the post op rules and information.Yes they are very structured.Very honestly. on a scale of one-ten i would rate him a nine. both were great.
Dr. Hallowell has a wonderful reputation as a surgeon and I believe he is very capable. I didn't see much of him before surgery and his whole office is more oriented to the post surgical patient. So, I am getting to know him now. He is quiet and personable. I was supposed to be a lap patient but due to my age and previous surgeries, he convinced me to go open. He was quite patient during the discussion and did not condescend at all. The scar was suppose to be the size of his fist. Both of the patients that were in with me had a scar like mine ... navel to bra. On the plus side, no infection or other problem and it is neat as a pin.
The aftercare is a litle loose. The support group is a staged dog and pony show but the program is evolving and gettign better all the time. It is still pretty new.
The staff is extremely competent if a little hard to get hold of. It seems they prioritize and when you really need to talk they are there. I can live with that.
