Peter Hallowell Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
THESE ARE MY OBSERVATIONS....SOME ARE BIASED NO DOUBT AS THIS IS TWO MONTHS, AFTER SURGERY
AND I HAVE NOT HAD ONE PROBLEM...
observant as to medical and humanity issues
personalble..good "bedside"
same feeling now...
office stafff GREAT ..except for one receptionist in the general surgery office..she is rude to everyone and eats constantly with no manners..in front of the entire waiting room
no time to get to know him as a person..
no listen no surgery...period..he insists you full participate...mentally as well as physically..
BIG BIG BIG aftercare...insists on patients follow post surgery program....which is structured .
in an honest truthful realistic manner.
a 5 star surgeon...in fact...a bariatric patient candidate was sent to he and the other Dr./surgeons on the team....for better
closure procedures..the patient was from a huge bariatric center....a testimony to the drs at UH
both great...very unusual for this...
I am 6 months post-op and I Dr. Hallowell and his entire staff have been wonderful. I was very concerned about how I would be treated before the surgery and after the surgery. I have to say that Dr. Hallowell has a wonderful bedside manner. He is very sensitive to your issues and takes the time to talk with you and answer any questions you might have regarding the surgery and all aspects in between. His entire staff, have been so supportive that it has been pleasure meeting them all.
If I had to rate him, it would be a 10+! I began my search with a local well-known facility and did not care for "mill" atmosphere. At Dr. Hallowell's office I was not just another insurance payment, I was a person and treated with respect and kindness. That meant more to me than anything else
Dr. Hallowell is calming, informative and honest. As I go through the healing process the doctor and staff have been available even during the holiday to answer a question about my incision. The office staff is valuable helping me adjust to the steps needed to get healthy again. Dr. Hallowell could take more time during office calls. The doctor expects me to know the right questions to ask. I am still figuring this all out and don't always know what I need. I will be a patient the rest of my life to make sure all is well. The doctor was upfront about the deaths and patients with complications. I am very glad to have found Dr. Hallowell.
My first impression of Dr. Hallowell was that he was friendly and upbeat and had a sense of humor, but he knew his stuff and was very thorough about covering all the issues and requirements involved with getting insurance approval for the surgery and giving the positive and negative aspects of the surgery and getting a full assessment of my health. He praised me for turning in a very complete and well-documented paperwork package and I felt comfortable complying with his wishes for any additional testing
he wanted me to do. Dr. Hallowell is very busy and his time with me during office visits was brief, but I didn't have any reason to keep him, all my questions were answered. He visited me twice in the hospital
and said I looked great.
The office staff is wonderful. They are so helpful and have so much information and they see that you get the information or help that you need. They are friendly and have nice personalities. At least one of the nurses visited me in the hospital and one was there when I did my swallow test. It was nice to have someone familiar help me with the test and actually show me the pictures and explain what I was looking at.
There is a complete structured bariatric surgery program at University Hospital, Cleve. They do a full assessment of your health before surgery, they try to get you into the best shape as possible for surgery and then monitor you after surgery and for the rest of your life. All the resources are there at University Hospital to take care of
your weight loss and diet and any other health problems that were uncovered during the pre-op work-up. Every nurse, technician,
doctor and even the house keeping staff were great!
Overall I would rate Dr. Hallowell great! I would also rate the experience I had with
my first major surgery very positive. The Bariatric Surgery Program at University Hospital, Cleveland is tops!
He is really a nice doctor. My impression has remained the same. His staff are very kind and caring. He really emphasized the aftercare and being I had an open wound I saw him quite frequently for the first couple months after surgery. I would rate him as very capable as a surgeon to perform the surgery.
Dr. Hallowell Is a wonderful guy! He was very nice and helpful and I would recomend him to anyone. The office staff was very helpful and nice to me.He was very informative as to the before and after care of the wls. The support system of University hospitals of Cleveland have agreat support system. the surgeons go to the support group every month and answer questions that you have.
I can't not think of words to describe the awesome experience I had with Dr. Hallowell and the Bariatric staff at University Hosptial in Cleveland, Ohio. I just had my
Lap RNY on Thursday, April 1st. I also had my gall bladder removed too. I was in the hospital for two nights. I was very impressed with the personalized care. My Cpap machine for sleep apnea was giving me a sore on my nose, and Dr. Hallowell and his nurse immediately had my maske changed for me that day. That is how caring this staff is. I had a private room at University Hopsital and I was treated like a queen. They pamper their patients with very individualized care.
I met with two other surgeons before Dr. Hallowell. He is not the normal ego driven surgeon. He is quietly confident and actually has a personality. From my first visit to my 6 month check up it has not changed. I would choose him again without question.
University Hospital has some of the best efficient staf there is. They answer all questions and get back to messesages the same day (unlike 2 other hospitals in the Cleveland area, one downtown and one on th westside).
There is nothing I can say I don't like about him.
One of the things that attracted me to Dr. Hallowell and University Hospital how much they stessed aftercare and that this operation is a tool and not a magic bullet. There is also full knowledge that this operation has major risks and anyone who considers this must realize this.
All patients must go to group meetings before and after surgery. I found that the postop meetings very helpful and provided me with many different experiences that prepared me when different situations developed for me.
Dr. Hallowell and his staff at University Hospital in Cleveland were great both in competence and also their bedside manner. They showed compassion but did not offer the "easy way" out.
