First impression: He was very busy, did not introduce his self or ask who the person was accompaning me to my consult. Had I not read the postings on this site about Dr. Anez prior to my consult I would have been a little uncomfortable. Dr. Anez comes Highly recommended by more than a few of my doctor's. I have had multiple GYN surgeries and have severe internal adhesions, according to my GYN surgeon. Dr. Anez was his choice and he confidently felt Dr. Anez would be able to do the bypass surgery in spite of the adhesions.
I did bring a 3 ring binder with an outline and dividers with at least 200 pages of medical records documenting my co morbities. He asked me why I brought all of it and tossed in on the floor. He said I didn't need it for precertification. (I guess he would know since he's the expert!) I did let the office staff know about the notebook and they took it out of his office.
I appreciated his colored pencil drawings and clear, understandable explanation of the surgery and what to expect post op. He answered my husband's and my questions. By the end of the 30 minute consult we were all laughing. My husband even joked with him and asked it he'd do 2 for one price. (He's M-Obese also.) Dr. Anez laughed and joked back. I want him to do my bypass. (100% sure)
I had to choose another surgeon because the one that I had first chosen isn't in my insurance network. I was referred to Dr. Anez by a former patient, a very good friend of mine, and she has nothing but good things to say about him. I don't have a consultation date yet because I want to try and straighten things out with the insurance company, but as soon as I meet him, I'll be sure to spread the word.
7/12---I have an appointment with Dr. Anez on the 20th, and I'm pretty excited about it. Stay tuned...
First impression was that of being professional. This has changed since I had to go through the normal surgery plus a second surgery to close a leak; I am not that impressed with him
His staff seem competent but disorganized.
His bedside manner; cold and aloof.
He and staff do not provide enough info about the problems that could and did arise following surgery.
Aftercare program is afir at best
Not enough detail on problems that could arise post op
Nothing to compare for a rating
Surgical competence is far better than bedside manner
Dr. Anez was extrememly helpful in teaching me all about the surgery and what was to be expected of me before and after my procedure. The only thing is that I saw him the day of my first appointment and not again until the day of my surgery, it would've been nice to have established a better rapport with him. The staff is excellent!! Maria is wonderful and extrememly supportive, I adore her!!
He is very professional, very friendly, and did not rush me when I had a whole list of questions.
He has an entire team of people that deal with all aspects of the surgery - nutritionists, support groups, etc.
I like everything about him but not his answering service. I have a problem with diarrhea and called on a sunday to his answering service. They said they would give him the message. Well, I spoke to him on Monday only because I called his office. He said he never got the message.
You really only see him at the first consultation and at the day of surgery. After that you see his physicians assistant. I think I will see him when I get my staples out but not sure.
I would rate him as one of the best in the country.
He seemed nice. The consultation was very matter of fact. Informative but bare boned type of stuff. What was more helpful was sitting in the office listening to people who already had the surgery. Nothing but positive glowing reviews. So based on this "word of mouth" resource I feel very confident in the choice of surgeon. Apparently, many of the office staff have had the surger themselves. I haven't really spoke to anyone of them personally but again, the waiting room clients had a lot to say.
I would say that if you are considering a consultation alone, don't wait! Make the appointment NOW. There is about a month wait to get that first appointment and I would imagine that soon it will be longer than that.
Aftercare was kinda covered in the constultation. I would imagine that greater detail will be given once approval is received from my insurance company. Yes, risks of the surgery is discussed.
I would rate Dr. Anez as an 8.5 because um again it was very matter of fact and I didn't feel a personal connection with him. But does that really matter at this time since I don't know if I'll get the approval?
