Dr. Jawad is the greatest!!! He did my first surgery 20 years ago and it made my heart sing to know he was the same awesome surgeon (per my nurse buddies)that he's always been. You don't see his smile much, but when he does, it lights up his kind eyes and caring demeanor. Hospital staff is wonderful and caring. Office staff could use some work - things aren't followed up on sometimes, but overall, as long as you keep up the work of being your own best advocate and don't let things fall through the cracks, you'll be fine. Aftercare is stressed and I got enough notes and pamphlets to fill up a large folder; so no one can say you don't get the information. They go through everything as a group. All you have to do is read it and keep it close. It's all good info, especially the exercise info - no one ever told me what kind of exercises would be good for me to start before and continue after my surgery. It was something I didn't put much thought into. Jawad was forthright in addressing US averages and his own practice averages regarding risks of surgery, etc. He also stressed the risks of dumping syndrome and what it would feel like. Overall, I think I would give the practice an 8, but him a 9.5 out of 10 (got to have some room to move up, though don't know how!!!). Dr Jawad is straight-forward, never sugar-coats anything, so be prepared for a short, Splenda truth. You will be glad he's that way. He cares for his patients, even after 20 years. And, yes, I'd go back again to him. I did and would trust him with my life.

I went to Dr. Jawad's Free Seminar several years ago but was skeptical. Over the years I have been asking everyone who looks as if they had lost a great deal of weight how they did it and almost all said gastric bypass by Dr. Jawad. A couple said Lap Band but I was not interested in that @ all. Then my husband was out of work for 18 months so I couldn't even contemplate spending $ on surgery but he has been back to work about 7 months so I attended my 1st Consultation Mtg. on 6/11/10 & made up my mind that I definitely wanted the gastric bypass & wanted it done by Dr. Jawad. Immediately after the consultation & speaking with Odalys, I had my blood work & EKG done and then made appt with my PCP who cleared me for surgery. Since I work @ MRMC, I had 5 years worth of physicals which I brought to Odalys the same afternoon. By June 28th Odalys had all my required paperwork. My insurance company only required a letter of medical necessity - I was lucky there. I called a few times leaving messages & e-mails to Odalys but with no response. I then attended Dr. Jawad's monthly support group meeting @ West Marion I think it was July 15th. I voiced my concern that I had everything in but my insurance company didn't hear anything. I was very anxious since I made the final decision. I met Kelli Potenza Bariatrice Clinical Coordinator for Dr. Jawad. She was a really big help. Apparently I wasn't the only one who hit a snag with Odalys but I'm sure she is very busy. Anyway, Kelli called Odalys and I kept checking w/my insurance company. They rec'd request on July 21st and then I was approved July 23rd. I then e-mailed & called Megan to get my surgery scheduled. She contacted my on Aug. 3rd & my surgery was scheduled for Aug. 31st with preop on Aug. 26. Needless to say, I am EXTREMELY EXCITED!
He is absolutely amazing, extremely talented doctor. If you want a successful WLS go for Dr. Jawad :)
I have lost close to 200 lbs, the journey has not been easy, but the things that are worth fighting for in life give you the most happiness. I have never been as happy as I am today. Dr. Jawad gave me a new life, a better quality of life and overall gave me the chance to live out all my dreams. I am thankful and grateful for this gift. I can not express to the world what he has done for me. My best way to give back and repay him is to hope others who are in the situation I was in that I can motivate them to give themselves the chance I did. You have one life to live, make sure you are actually living your life, for yourself and others.
Dr. Jawad is a professional/expert in his field. Although he is very impersonal he tells you like it is. He lays the risks and advantages before you and allows you to chose. The office staff is not the greastest, but if you stay on top of them you should be okay. Future, patients should not expect to develope a relationship with Dr. Jawad, you will probably see him no more than three to four times and that's including the days after surgery. I did not even get to see him the morning of surgery. I would say overall he is an expert and knows what he's doing. He's surgical competence would be the greatest assest as your beside care would come from the hospital staff.

This man was the most considerate and thoughtful doctor I had ever met. He didn't shame me or make me feel embarrassed. My surgery was great and I had no complications. Dr. Jawad's staff was complete in informing and helping with pre op and post op information and care. This man and his staff are phenominal!!!!
