I chose Dr. Gagner due to his impressive and pioneering efforts in this field and the loyalty and praise of his patients. My first impression was of a low-key, very competent surgeon who exhibited no ego, explained procedures in simple language and did not pressure me to make a decision. His knowledge is was immediately apparent. Although I had done tons of research, I was relieved that I did not have to educate him nor convince him to undertake a less well known procedure (BPD/DS) as he was already familiar with its advantages and had recently introduced it into his practice. Office staff so far have been very nice & Bernadette, bariatric coordinator, is downright sweet. I am most hopeful that my continued care with Dr. Gagner will proceed in the same way. 10/22/99. I had my surgery 2 1/2 wks ago and Dr. Gagner was wonderful. I was his 7th lap BPD w duodenal switch patient and also know no. 8 and 9 and we are all doing great. He, of course, has scads of experience with laparoscopic RNY, but is making the duodenal switch available lap (the first doctor in the world to do so) as many feel it is a more effective and less invasive surgery, particularly for those of us with BMIs in the high 40s,50s and above. Dr. Gagner is able to operate on the super obese and has a mortality rate of zero. His care of me and the many people I have referred to him has been uniformly excellent. His reputation is impeccable. He is a quiet, caring, considerate man, who I think may be a bit shy. I have found his nutritionist, Nicolle, very helpful.
6 month update: 100 lbs. lost, no problems or complications! More than half way to goal weight and thrilled with my choice of surgery and surgeon.

Dr. Gagner is reserved but very pleasant. My first meeting was actually with his associate, Dr. Inabnet, who was extremely thoughtful, kind and thorough. The office staff is helpful and friendly, although one has to be fairly pro-active to self-navigate through all the pre-op appointments. I very much enjoyed the monthly support group meeting held by Dr. Gagner and his staff at Mt. Sinai -- it was very informative and promoted an environment of camaraderie.

My first impression of Dr. Gagner was that of a man whom looks like he knows what he's doing. Well organized, explained everything to me in an understandable fashion. I of course was very nervous, but I seemed to feel more comfortable asking questions once he got the ball rolling. His office staff is very attentive, friendly, and very professional.

Top notch-EXCELLENT

Surgical competence, but his bedside manner is fine. He cares a tremendous amount for his patients' well-being.

I was referred to Dr. Gagner by my primary doctor. Even though he was 50 miles away I was told he was the best. After meeting him I and speaking to him I can say they were right. He made me feel at ease and I had all the confidence in his ability. With the help of his staff, they dealt with my insurance company and got approval. Bernadette, thank you very much. No one is perfect and to find a fault in Dr. Gagner I can only say from experience is that he is so far away.

I liked the fact that Dr. Gagner was very knowledgable about the laproscopic procedure. I also felt more comfortable with the fact that he was Chief Laproscopic Surgeon at Mt. Siani. I feel his staff is a little unorganized but he seems to be an excellent surgeon. He is very reserved... No support group as of yet. Will keep you posted...1/19 We had our first support group meeting this evening at Mt. Sinai. It was very helpful and I would suggest it if you are considering this surgery.

I choose Dr. Gagner after many
months of research because of the
confidance that I perceived he had
during my first telephone conversation
with him. I am very happy with my decision
even though I had to fly to New York from
Florida and have the surgery in such a
distant location from my home, it was my
gut feeling that I had to go where ever I
felt I would be in the best hands. I only
have one regret that he does not yet have
an organized support group which I think is
also very important. His staff is the best
all around I thought they were All excellent
and very kind and understanding. Despite
certain struggles I am having because I feel
that I need more support I feel having an
experienced surgeon is critical.I highly
recomend him .

Dr. Gagner is a GREAT surgeon - He performed
my Laprascopic RNY with no complications -
I have 4 tiny scars that are fading to
oblivion (the fifth was in my belly button so
it doesn't show at all) - I have no diarrhea
and no vomiting - at one month postop I have
lost 30 lbs.

My only complaint is that he is too quiet.

He is a brilliant surgeon - God Bless Him!!
