Michael Melkonian Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

WOW was my first impression of Dr. Melkonian. He really has his act together. He doesn't sugar coat anything, which is what I prefer. He tells you all the specifics in "normal" peoples terms and really spent all the time I needed in answering his questions. Nita (his nurse) is AWESOME she really knows her stuff and is the sweetest thing you will ever talk to. She too answers any questions that I may call ne about. OVERALL I GIVE DR. MELKONIAN (AND NITA) A MILLION THUMBS UP !!!!!!!!!!!!

He was very pleasant and informative, gave me all the information I needed and answered all my questions. The staff is nice and very helpful, especially Nita, she helps you make sure you have everything that the ins. needs to get approved. Dr. Melkonian was very forthcoming with information about risk and possible problems. I will let you know more after my surgery is completed.

HE LETS YOU KNOW HIS OPINON OF EACH, AND WHICH HE PREFERS TO DO.HE MOVE PRETTY QUICKLY STOPING FOR QUESTIONS. ACCESS YOUR MEDICAL HISTORY AND NOTES CLOSELY,GIVE HIS OPINION OF YOU AS A CANIDATE FOR SURGERY,GOOD AND BAD.IT MIGHT SEEM A BIT RUSHED,BUT I TOOK AWAY FROM IT THAT HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING AND HAS THIS CONVERSATION WITH SO MANY PATIENTS THAT HE KNOW HOW TO ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS THAT MAY ARRISE FROM THIS PROCEDURE.HIS STAFF IS AVERAGE. OVERALL IT WAS A GOOD VISIT. I FELT GOOD ABOUT IT.I WOULD REFERR OTHERS TO HIM.

Dr. Melkonian is very well respected and a member of the ASBS. He was very thorough and explained all aspects of the procedure.

I had my surgery 7/8/2004 and have had no complications.

His office has been very helpful, both before and after the surgery.

Dr. Melkonian was referred to me by a good friend who had their surgery performed by him. He also has a good reputation (my gynecologist had positive things to say about him).

I have enjoyed my meetings with Dr. Melkonian. He is very knowledgable, and to the point. I have enjoyed working with his staff, especially Nita, who has been patient and very helpful.

I selected Dr. Melkonian after reading good reviews of him on this site, and cross-referencing that with my insurance coverage.
When I met with him for the first time, I was immediately impressed with his confidence, competence, and thoroughness. He addressed every question I had and that my husband had (and believe me, he had more than I did!), without making us feel like we were taking up his time. He was quick, but thorough. Although we did not spend a great deal of time with him, I knew that if I had another question, he would answer it for me. The office staff, Nita in particular, have been extremely helpful and understanding.
He was very upfront about possible complications, and openly disclosed what he had encountered.
Dr. Melkonian gets my recommendation. I know some might say he's brusque, I found that he just was a fast talker. I never felt like I was interfering with his day. He isn't a "hand-holder," but that isn't what I wanted - I wanted someone who was confident in their abilities and someone I trusted with my life.

Dr. Melkonian is just totally awsome!!! He really knows his stuff, I guess that is why he is the best at what he does. When I went for my first consultation, he went over everything about the surgery, the pros and the cons. My husband was with me, and at my husband was skeptical of the wls, but after meeting Dr. Melkonian, we were both amazed at his knowledge of the wls and how thorough he was was at explaining the procedure. He was able to answer all of our questions, and by the time that we left the office, I was more sure about having the surgery then ever before.

He is very professional. Very to the point which is exactly what I was looking for.
His office staff is very nice and very pro-active. Can't really say there is anything bad I can say about Dr. Melkonian.
The only thing I can tell future patients of his is that if they are looking for a Doctor that is very upfront they would really like him. He is always emphasizing exercise and good eating choices.
He does provide you with a structured aftercare program.
He was very straight forward about all the risks of surgery and even went over some of the complications he has had with patients.
Overall, I am very satisfied with Dr. Melkonian. Glad I found him!

dr melkonian is awesome he showed he cares and was upfront he explained all about the surgery he answered all my questions i was amazed i feel very comfortable dr melkonian and his staff are the greatest anita was on top of everything she has a great personality and sweet surgery was on april 27 2004 up date this a little i have a new surgery date i was congested with a cold so had to reschedule my new surgery date is may 13,2004 so god bless you all and wish you all the best thanks dr melkonian and his staff :-)

Dr Melkonian, in my opinion, is the best. His entire staff worked with me during the insurance approval phase and gave me information and assistance as needed. The hospital staff were very nice and showed a great deal of concern.

I really do not have anything negative to say. Eventhough this may sound odd I found no fault with anything that occurred for me during my journey. Everything just went exceptionally well for me!

Dr. Melkonian's surgical skills are excellent. After the surgery I felt so good, I thought maybe I really did not have it.

Dr. Melkonian was very open and honest with me from the time I first went to his office. He told me exactly what to expect and what my contribution to the success will be. He explained the risks and the rewards in detail.

Both Dr. Melkonian's beside manner and surgical competence are top notch.

I would recommend anyone trying to obtain this surgery in the Charlotte/Matthews area pay him a visit and if possible let him perform the surgery.
