Michael Lara Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
Great Surgeon. To me he seems quiet, reserved, but he is very knowledgeable and respectful. Will take the time to explain anything that you don't understand. I felt comfortable with him since I first met him. I didn't have very many questions since I had been researching RNY since before 2005. His office staff is great. I have called and or emailed them and have always got a quick response. I chose this office because of the aftercare. I only had to go to El Paso for my Evaluation to see if I qualified, Surgery, and followup after surgery. All the other visits are in Albuquerque.
I was really impressed with everything I got down at Del Sol and with Dr. Lara. Del Sol really has their stuff together in terms of patient care. They always had me in and out as quickly as possible (when this is a good thing) and were always willing to go that extra mile.
Dr. Lara was pretty short and sweet, but I didn't really have any questions for him. I'm sure he would have entertained anything I would have asked, but I was pretty well read by the time I got down there.
I would suggest to anyone using Del Sol, however, to ensure you have phone conversations or face-to-face conversations whenever possible. Emails aren't their top priority, and I never really got the answer I was looking for. They're responsive, but it'll save everyone a ton of time if you just call and ask the question.

My first impression of Dr. Lara is he was very professional and takes his job very serious. He answer all my questions with time and patient. He did not try to rush me out of his office, he wanted to make sure I really understood the precedure and the risk involved. His office staff was wonderful expecially Becky. I can call anytime and they are always helpful and patient with me in my many questions and concerns as it gets closer to the date. They took care of all the paperwork to get me approved and has always been very nice, warm and welcoming. Dr Lara makes sure you completely understand the risk and make sure you understand that this is a life changeling event and you must follow the diet and you must exercise. He explain the follow up visits and what I would expect at the hopital. I would rate Dr. Lara as wonderful or a 100%. He is patient, kind, and take what he does very serious. I believe surgical competence and bedside manner is equally important and Dr. Lara has both. I am very please with my decision to have RNY and I am very happy my choice is Dr. Lara.

i just love Dr.Lara. he is very professional. His bedside manner was great and the staff at his office are great too. He is very persistent about taking care of yourself and of what you eat. They gave me a bunch of worksheets and papers about aftercare and menu samples and different types of nutrition supplements.

First impression: I felt very comfortable with Dr. Lara right away. He made me feel at ease and was very encouraging. My impression did not change at all for him.rnStaff: The staff is very accomodating, sometimes it is extremely busy in the office and you can get overlooked if you don't speak up. There was one appointment that was scheduled incorrectly on their end that caused a lot of stress for me. Overall, they are very welcoming and caring.rnPatients: He is very strict, if he tells you not to gain any weight; he is very serious, he will not perform the surgery if you break the contract with him on what his expectations are for his patients.rnAftercare : The Del Sol Bariatric Center is a complete facility. They stress so much on the aftercare of their patients. You will be followed up with a dietician for as long as you need or want to have access to the dietician. The staff is there for you for life. Which is good to know.rnRisks of Surgery: This is explained from day 1. The very first seminar I went to they stressed that there are risks and complications. I was aware of the complications of the surgery before I walked into the seminar. I researched the surgery and looked into it for two years before I walked into the clinic. I was well aware of complications and it was reassuring that they did not try and cover up the complicaitons.rnRate: I would have to rate Dr. Lara on a scale of 1 to 10: I would give him 10. His bedside manner was great and his surgical competence was awesome. It is nice to have a surgeon have both bedside manner and to be a leader in the bariatric community.

He had given a seminar here in Albuquerque that I had gone too and previous patients spoke highly of him. I finally got to meet him July 11th and he's very serious. I feel confident that he will be a good surgeon but I just wish the bedside manner was a little bit lighter. My husband and I are both kind of jokesters and appreciate a good sense of humor. Maybe it was because he had three other people waiting for him and he was rushed. As for the office staff, boy, I hope they get it together. None of them really laugh or smile although I did get the nurse, Debbie, smiling and laughing. I won't see Dr. Lara again until the day before surgery which will probably be another 6 months if the insurance company plays nice! :o)
