Michael D'Almeida Bariatric Surgeon D.O.
My surgeon is Dr. Michael D'almeida. I was reffered to Dr. D'Almeida by my pcp. He is new at performing lap rny which is what I have chose to have, but he has performed open rny for awhile. He also has alot of expeience with other types of lap surgeries. My first impression was wonderful he explained everything from A to Z. I felt that he was very honest with me. I was comfortable with him within the first 10 minutes of the consultation. The office staff at northeast surgical group (Dr. D'ameida's office) was very nice and caring. I knew after my consultation that this was the Dr. and office staff I wanted to spend the next 2 years comming to and seeing these people. The only thing
I would like to see in the future is a support group form. There is not one at this time but as he gets more patients Im sure there will be one. So far on a scale of
1 - 10 I would rate him a 10. My husband was also very impressed with Dr. D'Almeida. It was also important to me that the hospital was close to my home, how lucky I was when I found out he does the surgeries at Mt Clemens general which is only 10 minutes from my house. Dr. D'Almeida and Dr. Hanks are without a doubt wonderful, caring, and compassionate doctors. If you are considering having surgery with one of these two wonderful men you will not be disappointed.
Dr. D'Almeida has been an excellent doctor. I have had several surgeries in the past,so I am familiar with surgeons' personalities. He is very descriptive, very knowledgeable, and very intelligent. I feel that I am in good hands. Although I was born at Mt. Clemens General, I have never been there for a procedure. I have heard good things, though. Great Lakes Bariatric may take a long time, but maybe that's good. They really make sure they have covered everything! So far, I would rate Dr. D. as superior.
10/02: Dr. D'Almeida was assigned as my surgeon. I met with him in October at my 1st appointment and felt very comfortable. He answered all of our questions fully and spent over an hour going over the actual surgical procedure, risks involved and instruments to be used. He wants me to have an EGD (which he will do) and gallbladder ultrasound in two weeks.
6/02: Met Dr. Hanks last night @ the Mt. Clemens General Hospital Bariatric surgery seminar.
Very first impression...he's sooooooo young. This surgery is 'new' to the hopsital and the staff, only 8 procedures have been done since March 2002.
You have to have the following completed before meeting with Dr. Hanks for the surgery consult:
1. Attend the hospital seminar at Mt. Clemens General for Bariatric surgery
2. Diet and weight-loss history forms (handed out at the seminar)
3. Medical clearance for the surgery from your PCP (you will need a letter from PCP to submit to Dr. Hanks)
4. Lab work
5. Chest x-ray
6. EKG
7. Psychiatric evaluation
8. Nutritional counseling w/their facility
I think Dr. D'Almadia is great! He makes you feel so secure about him and he puts his heart into it. I think that is wonderful about him.
Over time, I even feel more at ease with him as my surgeon.
The office staff was o.k. It seemed like they weren't very fast at getting their part done, but I guess they purposely try to slow things down so that you are sure of the lifetime commitment of the surgery.
I think my doctor is great, even though the wait on my date seemed like forever, but I think he will be worth it.
He makes you feel very comfortable, besides being nice looking.
You have to commit to the aftercare, I think at least up to a year.
They took my picture during my last visit and he has shown so much excitement when his patients are doing well and are slimming down.
He does explain fully on the risks and complications that can occur during and after the surgery.
I would recomed Dr. D'Almadia to anyone who is looking into having this surgery done. His heart is in the right place.
