Lawrence Schrock Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
Dr. Schrock was very business-like and although I was just consulting him for gallbladder removal surgery, he recommended the RNY gastric bypass surgery. He didn't pressure me at any time and when I said I wanted to think about it for a while and do some research, he was very supportive. Post surgery, he was very caring and offered suggestions to help with the diarrhea and nausea I was having as well as the hair loss that started in the 2nd month. Most of his office staff were wonderful but there was one person who would never return calls or get back to me & I had to track her down in the office and wait in the waiting room for 3 hours before I finally convinced her she was going to see me and I wasn't going away! (I think she's no longer with the office now.) Aftercare was very structured with a plan for 6 weeks of blended foods, then adding soft foods after that. He was very upfront about risks and what I should expect from the surgery, including the surgical scar. And the morning after the surgery, he asked about the severe GERD I'd been having pre-surgery and I told him I hadn't had any troubles since the surgery. He almost gleefully informed me that the GERD was now completely cured by the surgery. That was wonderful to hear! I would recommend that future patients ask lots of questions, he doesn't always remember that the patient's a newbie to the process. But he's very thorough once you ask questions, explaining everything. I would say he excels in surgical competence and he's fairly good with bedside manner.
A little gruff.
He is a very knowledgable surgeon and I became very comfortable with him.
Excellent and caring staff.
His bedside manner.
He has been doing this for a long time and really knows what he's doing.
Quite a bit.
Yes
He explains the benefits and the risks of this surgery to you in detail.
Outstanding. I would highly reccomend him.
Surgical competence.
Dr. Schrock performed surg. for my mother and it is through her success I have gotten to know Dr. Schrock. I know that my mothers health was poor and her heart was weak. She is in her 50's and was not expected to live much longer. Because Dr. Schrock performed surg. on my mother her health has improved 60%. She is doing great and expected to keep improving and live a long and happy life.
I am not as sick as my mother, but I know with the help and support of my family and Dr. Schrock I will live a long and happy life with my mother.
Dr. Schrock is a wonderful caring man with a staff dedicated to helping others.
My husband and I met with Dr Schrock on 10-31-01, he was very informative regarding the type of surgery. I had read that he had a dry sense of humor and was all business, I thought he was very concerned about my problems. We both were impressed with him. He had me schedule a couple of test to make sure I was okay for surgery, then I had a rhythm problem with my heart, so that delayed the surgery dates. Also I was dealing with his office during the move and his joining another group. I couldn't get information or return calls. This was very discouraging but now he is with the new group and that office seems a little more responsive. I have been dealing with Janet and she has been pretty good about calling me back and answering concerns I may have. Janet says that the past performance of the old office shouldn't reflect on the skills of the doctor, since she thinks Schrock is great. I feel alittle better now, was thinking about finding another doctor. But I am sticking with Dr Schrock, because I like his attitude towards the weight challenged person.
1-23-02 Well I met with Dr Schrock for my pre-surgery visit. My husband and I feel really comfortable with him. I also got to met alot of the new people in his office and they are all so nice. A couple of ladies hugged me and told me I would do just fine. I was able to meet Janet and she was just as I pictured her. She's a definite plus and is making all this "paperwork stuff" easy. Dr Schrock went over the procedure again with us and he renewed my excitement about the surgery.
He was friendly and seemed to care. He asked a lot of questions to find out about me. And my health and my diets. Very concerned.
I grew a lot closer to him over time cause I had some problems and he helped me through all of them. He became my friend, not just a doctor.
His office staff is great. Espically his nurse Jody! She is a very caring nurse.
I liked everything about him. No complaints.
That he is one remarkable doctor. Has a lot of knowledge in this type of surgery. He is one of the best there is. He helps you to succeed.
He emphasizes aftercare a lot. He helps you out as much as he can. But a lot of it depends on yourself.
He has a very structured aftercare program. He is very supportive of you.
Yes he does address the risks of surgery. He makes sure that you are a good candiate of this surgery before he does it on you.
I would rate him the best that I could. Like a 100%!! I go to him everytime I need a surgery. I feel so comfortable with him. I trust him with my life!!
Surgical competence is best, but his bedside manner is ok. He comes around more once he realizes that you care about yourself and your quality of life.
I have only met him once so far, so I really don't have an opinion at this time.
However, my experience with the office personnel left a lot to be desired. I didn't feel like I got a straight answer from anyone. I didn't feel the team work that makes an office run smoothly.
I did my research on the Dr, his years in practice etc., and had two of my Dr's, one being my cardiologist, say he was the best. Since I am putting my life in the hands of the surgeon, I have decided to have the surgery based on the surgeon and not on the office staff.
I have heard excellent comments from previous patients and that is extremely important to me.
I prefer surgical competence to bedside manner, however having a Dr that can communicate well is important.
Dr. Schrock seems to be very capable, and very confident in his surgical abillity. He is not extremely touchy feely on the bedside manner, but he knows how to operate and that is where it counts most.
The staff is great. They were pretty good about getting back to me on the phone, regarding me approval process.
The risks of surgery were adressed point blank, with an emphasis on protien.
the surgical competence is by far greater than the bedside manner here.
My mom has had surgery from Dr Schrock and I have had one appointment with him. He is a very nice person yet straight to the point. I would definately refer other patients to him for this surgery! I am paying cash for this. My insurance has denied me after the second appeal letter. So, I am taking out a partial personal loan and selling my house to get some money out of that as well! This is worth it to me. So many people don't think twice about buying a new car....to me this is the same yet it is my life in return that I am paying for! I would rate my Dr a 10/10
My first impression of Dr. Schrock was a great one. I could tell he was a man who knew his business. His office staff treated me with respect and were always there to answer my questions.
The Dr. was very good at explaining everything and what I should expect. I would rate Dr. Schrock as a great surgon with good bedside manners.
