Larry Gellman Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.
My husband first visited Dr. Gellman in March 2016 because he was interested in the weight loss surgery. I was very impressed with Dr. Gellman because he took the time to answer all my questions and was very supportive. He give us all the options that were available to us and recommended the most safe and effective option. I was comfortable and knew my husband was in good hands. Dr. Gellman did not judge my husband.
It is almost a month after my husband surgery (surgery was in October) and he has healed very nicely and has lost a total of 35 lbs. I am amazed and pleased that the surgery was done with only five very small incisions (about one inch in length).
Dr. Gellman has given my husband his life back and my husband is looking forward to doing the things he used to do before his weight gain.
As of January 2017 (3 months after the surgery), my husband has lost approximately 50 lbs.
As an RN I have encountered some fantastic surgeons. And unfortunately some that are downright SCARY. But with all honesty Dr. Gellman is not only a great surgeon but a warm wonderful person. Trust me, I would not recommend him if I thought his surgical skills were poor.

Dr.Gellman is informative and understanding.Yvonne , the Bariatric coordinator is a very compassionate and helpful woman. Yvonne knows her stuff! The time that Dr Gellman spends with you is your time. He does not rush thru the process .He stresses support group meetings and Nutritionist visits .He discussed both the pros and cons of the surgery. I had a lap band done another surgeon and am having an OPEN RNY now .He has a wonderful team that work with him.Bedside manner is very important as is surgical competence. 5/12/09 I forgot to mention Charmaine GentilesRN,NP. Charmaine is also part of the team at Dr Gellmans office .Charmains is compassionate and caring just like the rest of the team.Charmaine is very knowlegable about Bariatic Surgery and the plight of the Obese patient. I feel so at ease with this group of professionals!
From the first meeting with Dr Gellman i was impressed he wanted to know about ME.rnrnHe was very warm and reassuring. I felt very at ease We spoke for about 30 minuted before event talking about surgery, asking me about my life and how i lived before and after weight gain. rnrnYvonne is the bariatric coordinator in the office and she really is a champ. She is always available and never rushes you off th phone. She knows the ins and outs of the clerical and admin process needed for insurance and pre testing.
Dr. Gellman was very nice and caring. He didn't judge or make any assumptions about how \"we\" came to be the way \"we\" are. He cared about my family history and allowed me to speak freely about it. I really loved the fact that his practice is very internet orientated. It made it so I had fewer questions when I did meet with him. We discussed all the risked involved in depth and how important it is to understand this is a life changing procedure, not just a fad. rnrnYvonne is who I met with first, and she is very thorough with what you need to do to get the surgery done. All the referrals she gave me were great! As busy of an office as they have, I still had no problem getting her on the phone when I had a question and I can't wait to talk to her again in two weeks to get my surgery date. rnrn
Dr. Gellman is a very kind and caring doctor. He is very informative. I highly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about getting weight loss surgery. I saw two other surgeons prior to meeting Dr. Gellman. I would travel hours, if I had to, just to go to him. He is everything you would want in a doctor.
My surgeon is fantastic. On my first visit he was so complete, discussed both banding and bypass options, went through a series of questions with me and determined which he felt was right for me, the band. (which was great because I wasn't intending of getting the bypass!). He is always interested in your progress and is willing to assist you with any troubles or questions you may have. I can't say there is anything I don't like about him or the way he practices. For future pts, I would say to just be aware that if he does not feel that the surgery you have chosen is the right one for you, he will not do it. Some people don't like that..but he is completely looking out for your best interest. He and his staff are very complete about aftercare. He sees you every month for the first 6 months (about), then every couple of months...and so on. rnOverall I would rate him a 10 out of 10. He is the full package...surgical competence, good bedside manner, and a competent staff to back him up. I would reccomend everyone to go to him. But this is just my opinion....everyone is different.
