Saw Dr. Wetter starting over a year before my VSG surgery in December 2012. He was able to address all the questions and concerns my husband and I had about having the surgery. Fortunately the surgery and recovery were very easy for me. The scars I have are very minimal. Have had several follow-ups with Dr. Wetter and as with my pre-surgery appointments he was very concerned with following the proper eating and emphasizing that the surgery can only do so much, and the rest is following plan and being in the right attitude to deal all the changes. So glad I went to Dr. Wetter, he is an expert in his field, and his office staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The bariatric program Dr. Wetter is in is part of a Center for Excellence for bariatrics at Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame, Calif. They also have a great Bariatric Nurse/Program Director and have monthly support meetings for pre and post surgical patients. Dr. Wetter and the whole staff/program are excellent. I would highly recommend him.
Just met Dr. Wetter and his staff. Janet, the bariatric coordinator is responsive to calls. You will hear back from them! Claire, his medical assistant, was nice and approachable.
Dr. Wetter seemed very kind and knowledgeable. I look forward to working with him. We talked about the types of surgeries, which was appropriate for me and my goals, risks and benefits, and his requirements before we move forward.
I was originally a patient of Barry Sanchez, he left the group and I was a "leftover" patient, and was assigned to Dr. Wetter.
In 10/12 went to doctor and the band was diagnosed as it had slipped & needed to be removed asap, due to complications happening.
Dr. Wetter performed the surgery without any complications. During and after the surgery he was attentive, professional and very through. My only hiccup with him was in the determination process of the surgery-he did not display any bedside manner and was abrupt, almost rude like.
This surgery changed my life and has given me a new lease on life.
Dr. Wetter is a very easy to talk to, non-judgmental, and extremely competent surgeon. Not only did I have lap band surgery 3 years ago and lost close to 100 pounds, but also had a laproscopic colon resection by him for another unrelated problem. Both he and his staff were always very responsive and attentive. I did note on a few occasions during after care office visits that the schedule was not always maintained, but there was always a reasonable explanation he offered....after all there are more patients with critical needs requiring his skill versus my after care appointment. Regardless, I have never felt rushed and he ALWAYS lets you take a moment to gather your thoughts to ask any last questions you may have. I have always felt that he was there to truly help me and not his ego. I would highly recommend Dr. Wetter for his technical skills, bedside manner, and compassion for his patients.
Dr. Wetter was very informative and helpful. I did not feel rushed one bit and the office staff were wonderful. Seems to have an amazing bedside manner and I look forward to getting to know him and his staff better in this process. We talked about the risks and his track record, he was very honest and open with me which was nice. I can tell he is a straight shooter but is not even a little abrasive about it which is nice.
***UPDATE***
I had my VSG on the 27th! Amazing doctor, I really felt like he explained everything every step of the way. Was very understanding and helpful. His office staff are amazing as well. I loved the hospital too. Mills-Penensula. The nurses were all very nice and caring. Even though he was a little far away for me, it was well worth the drive!!! I feel very lucky to have worked with such an amazing group of people!
All I can say is Wow! Very impressive surgeon, and did a great job on my revision (original surgery was Duodenal Switch) and hernia surgery.
Hard to find a surgeon that takes so much time to explain the exact procedure to his patient with ease. He really helps to make you feel comfortable and you will know he is the right doctor for you right away.
He even takes the time to call you on the phone to handle any questions or problems you might be having pre or post op. Rare these days!
A++++
Thanks Doctor Wetter!
I have met very few people I like as much as my surgeon. Sometimes you can just tell when someone really knows what the are doing. An amazing individual that has not saved my life but changed it in ways that I never even thought about. At 42 years of age I am now doing things that even if I lost the weight I never thought I would be doing. Weight can be a tru handicap but once it's under control age is truly just a number.rnThanks Doc.
Dr.Wetter made me feel so comfortable! He has a wonderful personality and a great sense of humor. I am so thankful I found him. His staff is very supportive. They had everything done and submitted to my insurance before I could even call and check up. I am so impressed with the courtesy and professionalism they show to their patients.

I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Albert L. Wetter and the staff who took care of me at the hospital in Burlingame! My Roux-en-Y surgery was performed in 2003.rnDr. Wetter was very honest and straight-forward when I questioned him about his experiences, including the less than pleasant topic of complications. He had performed many successful surgeries, but unfortunately had one fatality which he made no effort to hide from me. When I asked, he shared with me exactly what happened in that particular case, including his regrets, and I know it weighed on him just because of the way he approached & relayed that experience in such complete detail as if it had just happened, though it had happened years before.rnWhat impressed me the most was that I felt Dr. Wetter and his staff did an excellent job of educating me, and letting me know just exactly what I was involving myself in. I was also very well informed of what I would need to do to maintain optimum health after my operation was completed. He was also flexible in working with me when I encountered negative situations while going through my pre-op requirements. (EX: At the first group support meeting I attended, the leader of the group was giving people hints on how to get around things that shouldn't be done when post-op. After I relayed my experience, Dr. Wetter allowed me to complete my Group Meeting requirements via online chat rooms & posting boards.) I realized how well informed I was when I started chatting with others on the internet, and I felt very fortunate to be placing myself in Dr. Wetter's capable hands.rnI did experience some post-op difficulties which I was promptly helped with. (I should mention this was my own fault for going on a kick of eating lots of jerky for my protein source. Too much salt!)rnAs well as being an exceptionally competent surgeon with a tremendous amount of experience in this field, the icing on the cake is that he is a very warm person with a wonderful, caring bedside manner.rnIf I, for some reason, had to go through this procedure again, I would very comfortably & willingly seek out Dr. Wetter to perform the surgery.rnAs I write this, I am 5 years out past my surgery, and I feel my operation and results were a wonderful success. I VERY STRONGLY recommend Dr. Albert L. Wetter for anyone who is considering bariatric surgery.rn
