Kevin Mitchell Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

My first impression was that he is soft spoken. He was willing to answer any questions that I had and didn't rush me. His office was hard to find. We drove all over St. Louis trying to find it. It is small but I got in almost as soon as I had completed the paper work. The staff was pleasant. Aftercare has not been discussed a great deal. The risks of surgery were covered quite in depth at the seminar and at his office. I have no problems at all with him. He has excellent credentials. Yesteday, I had my pre op work done at Forest Park Hospital in St. Louis which was easily accessed and easy to get into. The staff there was super friendly and helpful.

Well, I have ditched Dr. Sifers, and am moving on to Dr. Kevin Mitchell in St. Louis. I really didn't want to have this surgery so far away from home since my kids are so small, but after talking the Stephanie at Dr. Mitchell's office, I am feeling better about my decision. They really do all they can to reduce your trips to his office. She even said I have do all my pre-op work here in Kansas City if I want!!! Yeah!!! I have my initial consult on 7/11/01. I will be receiving a packet of info from New Start to fill out and return to them. As soon as they receive that packet, they can begin acquring approval for my surgery!!! Even before I see Dr. Mitchell!!! I am feeling a renewed sense of excitement about having this surgery, and am hoping everything will go as smoothly they've said it will. Although I have yet to meet the Dr., his office staff was beyond helpful and even let me know of a seminar Dr. Mitchell will be holding here in Kansas City this weekend!!! I am definitely going to attend.
Dr. Mitchell is a top rate surgeon. He is extremely through, has great follow-up and excellent in-hospital care.

I met with Dr. Mitchell on October 29th. He and his staff were very nice. He gave me all the time I wanted for asking questions. I didn't feel rushed by him at all. There were however, many people waiting to see him, so I tried to not take up too much of his time. He knew that I had been through the surgery with a friend and I think he felt comfortable with the fact that I have been preparing for this for over a year. Everyone that I have talked to at different support groups have nothing but the highest regard for him.

10/17/01 was the first time i met with dr. mitchell. i wasn't too thrilled with the long wait in his office, but his staff told us that he had been called away to do a surgery and would be in shortly. when he did get in the office, patient flow moved pretty steadily. i didn't have many questions because i've been reading info on the internet and i had already gone to an info seminar. dr. mitchell asked several times if i had questions and let me know that i could just call if i thought of any later. for the most part, the visit was okay.

When I arrived at Dr Mitchell's office there were about 6 other patients in the waiting room. It was nice to see that. I did have a chance to talk with some of them. They could not believe I was having surgery. They thought I was here for Post-OP. I have a BMI of 40.5 and they said I hold my weight well. I then began to feel a little out of place. But not for long. Stephanie and Donna were just super! They were the office ladies and they made you feel very comfortable. When I left I felt that I had known them for years. THANK YOU girls! Your friendly work ethics should be commended.
For Dr Mitchell-----AWESOME. This is a man who is very direct but so personal. He to treated me as though we met before. I feel so very comfortable with him as a surgeon. He has put me at ease about my surgery and with that I will rate this Surgeon a 10+++
He went over the risk involved and seemed to think there would be none. I met him again at his seminar here in Kansas City and he just explained the surgery and answered all questions in a manner that was very professional. He seems to be a Fabulous Person.

Very friendly, knowledgeable, confident,(a big plus to me) well mannered.
He always had a possitive attitude towards me, this never varied.
His staff has always been extremely helpful, able to answer all my million questions and concerns.
I can't think of anything I disliked about him. He has a well structured aftercare program. We discussed in great detail the risks involved with the procedure. He was able to put myself and my family at ease.
On a scale from 1-10 he rates a 10 in my book. I would say he has both great surgical competency and bedside manner!

My first meeting with Dr. Mitchell went well. I thought he was very nice and he had a good sense of humor. He answered all of my questions thourghly and gave me all the details of what to expect after surgery. The office staff was wonderful. They had everything ready for my visist when I had got there. Overall, I have been very pleased with Dr. Mitchell and his staff.

I met Dr.Mitchell at a free seminar in Oct. He seemed nice. Can't really comment much more than that at this point, since it has been 6mo. Had to wait until I carried my Ins. for 1yr. Which will be May 20th.I have my initial appt. set with him for May 21st.Hoping for approval in June. Will post more after that visit. Well, here it is 5wks. after surgery& I,m feeling pretty good. I have had no complications. As far as I can tell Dr. Mitchell did a fine job. I see him in 4 days & will weigh in will post about weight loss at that time. Although I do know I have lost 20lbs. as of 3 1/2 wks post op.

Dr. Mitchell was very easy going and reassurring to me the entire time I prepared for surgery. He did not do this particular surgery at the hospital I worked at(I am an RN) but came back just to do my surgery. I originally went with his former associate but was extremely unhappy with his office staff. They sent me on a wild goose chase for 7 months with insurance that would never cover the surgery. I then met Dr. Mitchell at a seminar and changed to his office. I am extemely pleased with Stephanie & Donna in his office. I changed insurance companies and without these 2 I would have given up long ago. They are wonderful. As far as aftercare, he has a highly structured program at another hospital but not where I had my surgery. I am checking into joining their aftercare program. I would highly recommend him, my family loved him and he didn't assume I knew everything being a nurse. My experience has been great.
