My firstpersonal impression of Dr. Warnock was that he was a very compasionate of my illness and my desire to become healthier and happier. Although I did have to wait an excesive amount of time before being seen.
My impression of my surgeon has not changed through the past several visits. He appears on every level to understand and sympothize, as humanly possible, with my desire to a thinner me.
His personal secretary in charge of the approval process and preparation appointments, wasn't always as timely as I would have liked, but she preformed all tasks requested of her. Several times I had to forcefully request there completion and it would be something I would expect alot of improvement on.
The fact that he was so overly busy and had sometimes little time to talk due to an abundance of patients was something I liked least personally. However I completely understood the why's. I mean I'm sure there are just as many people as I, that have exhaustedly been obese for so long we can't wait for the opportunity to really wash away the madness, so his short abundance was excuseable for me.
Dr. Warnock extensively emphasized aftercare a great deal to me. Mainly for the fact that he wants this procedure to be life long and with as few after complications as possible. He was always very persistant on the fact that I knew the extensive care I would need to maintain to really make the surgeory a sucess. That the outcome would be there, but only if "I" wanted to maintain and lead a normal life, I had to be the one to put for the effort. He couldn't do that for me. I would need a constant exercise program, proper eating habits, and of course taking the correct and timely amounts of vitamins to maintain my bodies nutrition.
Dr. Warnock along with his staff, I felt has developed a rather convient and helpful plan to maintain my aftercare. They have established a nice portfolio as far as immediate aftercare up to the phases beyond the 1 year mark. The portfolio contains excerise habits, eating habits, vitamin importance. The vitamin section was extremely interesting to me, in that, I have not in my life span had to take extensive medication and didn't know each of the vitamins and their particular importance. He has also put together places to obtain proper medications and support groups to help esculate my healthier lifestyle.
Dr. Warnock was very upfront and direct when it came to the risks of the surgery. At every interval he explain that in any surgery there is always the risk the complications could arise that may or may not cause severe even deadly results due to everyone being different, different complications could arrive. As well the fact that he explained how these risks could in the future cause problems as well to living a normal life for me, and that the procedure is not by any stardards experimental anymore it could still result in distress. He continued also to explain what precautionary methods he would take to give the best chances of a sucessful bypass for me.
I would have to give him a 7 on a scale of 1-10, just for the fact he never left me in the dark. He always was very persitant in asking me as many questions as I asked him. Trying to really understand my descision as well as the reasons behind having the surgery. But mainly because out of any doctor or surgeon I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, his attitude and kindness were outstanding. Sometimes when he was overbooked he would pop in and pop out several times for things forgotten or people complaining, rather than devoting his full attention to me, which is why the lower score.
Dr. Warnock, for me, appears to be extremely knowledgeful of the surgical aspect and still maintains a humanly bedside manner. So I would have to give him a both great on that one. Since my surgeory is not till next week I really can't say if the beside manner is absolute yet. I will update as soon as that week is over and I have a chance to really find out. I would still recommend Dr. Warnock to anyone in the Texas area, because I have little doubts about his ability to treat "me" as a person rather than a number. Each person is different however, so these experiences are just from my own personal observations.

After the surgery!
I just wanted to update that after the surgery Dr. Warnock is still extremely interested in my progress. At times he can seem a little scripted, that he has said this same thing so many times and your the next patient on the assembly line; but for the most part he seems interested in my progress. I saw him on my 2 month visit and my next visit isn't for 6 more months in March of 2003. It was an in and out kinda of thing ..Doing great keep up the good work and all, the poof out you go. Lately too, it practically takes up to 3 hours past your appointment time to get in. Every time is like this for people that have seen him since as well. If you go please be aware there are so many people getting involved in this surgery your wait time could take up to 4 to 5 hours possibly. The wait time is incredibly unbearable and then bing bang your out and on your way! All that wait for 2 mins of your fine see you in 6 months. I guess the wait is worth the scarafice though!

My first impression of Dr. Warnock was very pleasing because he truly seem to want my life to improve. My impression just got better over time. The office staff is also amazing, they are just as excited as you are when you go in for your check ups. The only bothersome snag was after we finally got clearance for payment through the rehab he dropped a bomb on me and said I had to lose 75 lbs before he would do the surgery. That was because I weighed 570lbs complications increase by 1000% when your over 500lbs and you have had a clot already. I just would have like to known that sooner. Future patients should know that he has done this surgery for many years and trult knows what hes doing. yes he has a very structured after care program and a patient after care helper also. ofcourse the risks were very high for me and he was very thorough about the possibilties of different complications and side effects.I would rate him over all from 1-10 a 12. And both his skill and bed side manner are very caring motivational an helpfull.

Dr. Warnock seems very competent. He has had much experience with WLS and to my knowledge is the only surgeon in the WF area that does these kinds of proceedures.

Debi takes care of all the WLS insurance stuff as well as maintaining files, etc. She can be very difficult to reach and you definitely know when she's having a bad day. However, when she's having a good day she is very kind and flexible. She will go to the mat for you with your insurance.

I have not yet had my final surgical consult and so we have not discussed aftercare. However, I do have a folder of information that was sent home with me when I scheduled the date of surgery with Debi.

10/1 Dr. Warnock has performed my surgery and I could not have asked for a more kind and caring doctor. He did rounds every morning and was very supportive. He released me from the hospital to go to the hospitality house for one day to make sure I was ready to make the hour drive home.

I knew I was supposed to call him the next morning. What I didn't know was that he was going to come to the hospitality house to see me as part of his morning rounds. Wow!! That was above and beyond the call of duty. That's when he completely earned my respect.

#1. first time i met DR. WARNOCK i was not sure about him. He seemed at first to be very rough going but very low keyed. over time i relized he was a very gentle and kind man who cares very deeply about his patients and his work. he also has very soft hands that tell alot about a person who takes good care of himself and his patients. 1st office visit i had to wait awhile to get back to see him, but it was because he had so many patients just waiting before me. he must have had surgery that ran past time for his office visits. he was very honest about what he was going to be doing and how he would do it. he even drew a picture on the exam table paper to show what he would be doing. the only thing i didn't care about him is he talks so low tone. other than that he is a terrific man. future patients should know he is very popular in this part of texas. but i haven't heard any negative things about him from anyone i know that he has done surgery on. yes, he does emphasize aftercare very strongly. yes he does have structured aftercare program but it up to you to follow it or it will not as well as it could. he does go over all the risk of surgery and what to expect after surgery. so far i would rate him as a 9 1/2. i will update after surgery and let you know more on everything that i can.

Sweet man. Gentle. Caring. Concerned. I was touched by his life. He helped me more than he really knows. So far, though I am still pre-op, I rate him VERY VERY HIGH!!

Well it is for sure now. Dr Warnock is going to be my surgeon!!! YIPEEE ~~~ I am very happy about this. I have heard only wonderful things about him. Not only is he a great surgeon, but he is also a Christian. That is very important to me. I am feeling very blessed right now.

I liked Dr. Warnock from the minute I met him. He seems to be genuinely concerned about all of his patients, to include pulling in family members to support them. I've only seen him twice, so I can't go into more detail. I have one more appointment with him before my surgery. I can give you more information after that; however, I don't think my initial opinion will change.

I absolutely love Doc. Warknock. He is such an inspiration, and has such a strong faith! God gave us an enormous blessing when we met him and, his Office Staff. I met him on Jan. 8, 2001, with my best friend Melanie, we are having the surgery done at the same time, we have been through everything together since the 6th grade (20 years ago) and now here we are. Doctor Warknock was referred to us, and we just loved him. Robin is the main one that answered the phone when I would call, she has a very friendly voice, and then there is Debbie, I know I drove her crazy, waiting for the approval, she went beyond the call of duty putting up with us…. She is truly wonderful!! I am so excited about this, I wish it was tomorrow, I am even more ecstatic for Melanie, she has longed for this her entire life. She deserves to be happy with her body, she is the most beautiful person, with the best personality, and soon she will have the body she very much deserves, and “we” will have the health that will enable our friendship to last forever!

Melanie and I went back for a check-up. It felt so great, the nurses didn't reconize me, that was the best feeling.. everyone was so GREAT! Dr. Warnock was so busy, due to being held over in surgery, he took the time to visit with us, and take a picture.
He did tell mo to not loose any more weight and gave me a 5 pounds to play with, but said if i go over that I had to promise to call him, I have to go back in July to have a check-up, just so he can keep an eye on me, he said sometimes its hard to stop loosing, I am so thinkful that he cares so much, it is not often that you can find a doctor that truely cares about your well being like he does! From a sale of 1 to 10 I give him an 11!!!
I would trust him with my Life!! (I did trust hime with My LIFE!!)

Dr. Warnock is the only physician in my town that will do the WLS. Dr. Warnock is very friendly and also very knowledgeable about the procedure, and what my life will be like after the surgery. He made me feel so comfortable, and answered all of my questions several times. His office assistant,Debbie, is very helpful. Though she is VERY busy she always returned my calls, and helped in finding financial resources. Dr. Warnock advises that all of his patients attend a support group that includes both his patients and others. I am working 2 jobs currently to try and help pay for this surgery, so I have never had time to visit one of the sessions. Though Dr. Warnock was not my first choice in having this surgery done, I am quite happy with him.

He was really down to earth and very direct. I knew instantly that he was the doctor for me. I had originaly chosen a doctor in Dallas, but just wasn't comfortable with his lack of experience. I just cannot say enough about Dr. Wornock. He has a lot of experience in bariatric surgery and that definitely makes me feel better.
