Dr. Millikan is very professional. He is not rude, but doesn't have time for idle chit-chat. He will give you as much time as you need, but when you are in his office, it is business.

My impression of him has gottne better. My wife met him for the first time on 3-15-05 and she is very confident with him.

His office staff including his nurse/assistant are very professional and very helpful.

He relies very much on what the consults have to say. I like this because he stays in his professional realm and allows others to do the same.

Dr. Millikan told me that he has done between 500-600 surgies and has lost 3 patients. 1 in hospital because they couldn't intubate and 2 out of hospital. The intubation issue was taken care of because now he does tracheostomys when they feel there could be complications.

So far, he is a 10 in my book.

His surgical confidence is a 10, bedside manner is a 4...but I am working on it!!

He came highly reccomended and has answered all my questions in an honest and understandable manner.

His assistant Lisa has been very helpful. She has tolerated my many phone calls and responded each and every time with kindness and compassion.

I had 11 pre-ops. I did feel this was a bit excessive. Being that I have been in good health my entire life, it was difficult for me to be poked and prodded week after week. I have learned since then that this is not unusual for WLS. It just seemed to be rather taxing.

I am now about 3 months post op and wanted to update my comments. At this time I have to say i am considerably less pleased with Dr. Milliken and his staff. Now that the surgery is over and the hospital has the $65,000 for the surgery, I get treated like an annoyance with NO support and little if any aftercare. The dieticians I am assigned to are worthless and know less than I do about the surgery and lifestyle changes that need to be made. For example, my new dietician gave me the great advise to drink with my meals!!! The number one NO-NO! He provides no support info or groups for aftercare. Other than the idiot dietician he assigned me to I am just supposed to show up every 3-6 months for a blood test. I expected more for my money, and I expected more concern for my well-being.

I would not reccomend him.

Generally,I do not like the "wham, bam, thank you ma'am" manner of doctors. I like the personal-caring approach. I've also had bad experiences with doctors in a teaching hospital setting. The feeling of being no more than a guinea pig or cadiva does not appeal to me. However, this is my very first time having surgery. Never been cut. So, what I like, prefer and such, takes a back seat to what I really need and that is a competent, skilled and experienced surgeon. From everything I've read and heard, that is exactly what I have in Dr. Keith Millikan. Thank God.

I didn't go in looking for a buddy or someone to make me feel better about myself.
He was plesasant and very professional. I liked that. My intial interview was short but to the point.
My relationship with his office person, Lisa, was informative and focused.

What I liked least was his distraction by outside influences during our second consult. He was very informative about the results of my pre-op testing and very upfront about the hazards and worse case scenerios. I didn't like the fact that he took a phone call in the middle of our consult to confirm his vote for an competition amoung the doctors at Rush. When your talking about me, focus on me.

What future patients should know about him is that he is a very confident and careful man. He needs a little work on his office manners but my research about him claims him as an excellent surgeon.

Don't seek aftercare information from him other than post-surgical care, everything else is in the care of Rush's Nutrition Center.

I had my first consult w/ Dr. Millikan last Tuesday (2/24/04). He was great (he comes highly recommended by a colleague, and fellow AMOS member [post-op]). He even let my "support person" come in to the consultation. He works out of RUSH hospital...a hospital I would be more than happy to stay at for my surgery. Although Dr. Millikan & Rush are "out of network" for my insurance provider (UHC), I still plan on working with him through this process.

Dr. Millikan is an excellent surgeon. He is not someone you will bond with, which I was grateful for. He does his job and leaves you alone. I have not had a single problem.
His office staff is very competent and helpful. My insurance was approved immediately because of their care in submitting it.
Dr. Millikan sends you to a nutritionist for aftercare, and they have been terrific.
I would highly recommend him, especially if you are searching for a skilled surgeon and not some sort of father figure/best friend.

I have been very impressed with Dr. Millikan and his staff. They have been friendly, and very courteous. My support person felt very much at ease with Dr. Millikan, and believe that he is an excellent surgeon.

He gave all of the information needed, answered all of our questions in a very professional manner.

Lisa, his assistant is very friendly, and easy to talk to.

I would give their program a 10,

Fortunately, I was familiar with Dr. Millikan prior to seeing him regarding WLS. He is very easy to talk to and gave me quite a bit of information concerning WLS both pre-and post-op. His office staff is very friendly and his assistant, Lisa, is extremely pleasant and familiar with the surgical procedure. My husband and I met with him and he discussed the risks of surgery in detail and in laymen's terms. I believe he is an excellent surgeon and very competent.
