Dr. Afram is very professional, to the point, no frills, honest. If you need this surgery, he will tell you. He is discreet and kind. His office staff is overwhelmingly helpful and never bothered by follow up phone calls or visits. Dr Afram's aftercare program is very good with nutritionists and psychologist on staff, support groups, follow up visits, on call support. Dr Afram's surgical competence is his strong point- straight \"A\". His bedside manner I'd give him a \"C\". Keep up the good work, he saved my life.

When first meeting him you will notice that he definitely has swagger. For some that might make him seem a bit shady but I really think that he cares. He has been doing this for a long time and is the top doctor in the area. The office staff is very helpful and takes care of all your questions and needs immediately. If they seem snappy when you call, it really is not personal. They handle a very large call volume and even if it seems you are a bother or that they have not really heard your request, it is not true. All questions will be answered and things requested will be sent out. He has a very structured program and leads an obesity surgery center not just a surgeon’s office. All resources you need to go on this journey are available in his office. There is even a plastic surgeon. Overall, I would rate him as an excellent surgeon.

I'm a patient of Dr. Joseph Afram here in the Washington, DC area. I found the office to be very informative and the staff very nice. I'm excited for the surgery. I meet with the doctor on 1/21/05 to go over everything right before surgery on 1/25/05. The aftercare program seems to be something which I will take a part in, such as the weekly support group meetings. I really can't speak on anything much because I haven't had the surgery as of yet...but hold on...I'll explain afterwards. Wish me luck!

When I first met Dr. Afram, I was very very nervous. He was a patient man and explained everything to a T!!! His staff are great to work with and very friendly.rnrnHow much does he/she emphasize aftercare?rnHe explained to my husband & I that we will need to exercise and eat better. In order to maintain a healthy body. He also explained that if you dont maintain, you will not lose and can gain weight.rnrnDr. Afram explained all the risk as well as the outcome of the negative side of the surgery.

I HAVE ONE WORD TO DESCRIBE DR. AFRAM AND HIS TEAM \"EXCELLENCE\".

Dr. Afram was the first face that I saw when I walked into his office. He was standing at the reception desk signing off on some paperwork. He called me over and showed me the reception desk, which is great....because I was really lost, his office was just that BIG.

His office staff was excellent, they spoke to me politely and did not treat me like, oh gosh, here comes another fatty trying to sign onto the easy way out of obesity. They were very cordial, no attitudes. The woman at the desk gave me all of the paperwork that I needed to fill out before the seminar.

There was nothing that I liked least about Dr. Afram.

I feel that future patients should know that he Dr. Afram knows his stuff. He has been doing this for over 20 years and has performed over 3,000 surgeries. He is very nice, friendly, knowledgeable, and also a little funny.

There were no bad feelings or uncomfortable feelings toward him, his staff, or his other two surgeons.

He emphasized aftercare as a part of his normal routine to all patients.

Future patients should also know that your surgery will be performed at George Washington Hospital in DC, which he is just a 5 minute walk from his office to the hospital.

He did address the risks of the surgery. Some things I knew and some I didn't, but I feel that I learned a few things that day. After the seminar, he took you into his office one on one (along with his other two surgeons) to see if you felt that the surgery would be something that you would want to do. Also to see if there were any questions that you may have had that you did not want to ask in front of all of the other prospects. In private, he asked you personal questions pertaining to your health, medications that you are currently taking, along with any allergies, etc. He asked me about all problems whether they were medically diagnosed or not. He even asked about whether you feel that you snore.

I would rate Dr. Afram, on a scale from 1 to 10, a 10. Finally a 10.

I think that surgical competence and bedside manner are both important, because you need to feel that your surgeon is able to be trusted with your life in his/her hands. Plus you feel great that IF you have a problem, that your surgeon would be passionate and sympathetic to your needs and concerns. Also, it's good to know that he will be willing to begin to look into ways to assist you in correcting them.

Dr. Afram and his staff are the best! He is very knowledgeable and took his time to answer all of my concerns. The Center for Obesity Surgery is a one stop shop. You see the doctor, nutritionist, psychologist, personal trainer, and plastic surgeon in the same office. He has a very structured aftercare program. His office staff completes all of the paperwork to be submitted to the insurance company. I highly recommend Dr. Afram and his staff.

Dr. Afram seemed very knowledgeable and described the surgery and the pros and cons to a small group of us. After that, he met with each of us individually. He discussed the risks of having the surgery and the risks of not having the surgery. He explained what life would be like post-op.
When I met with him and his assistant one on one, I was even more impressed. He took time to answer any questions that I had. He also shared that many feel like they have failed when dieting doesn't work but that no one should view it as a personal failure. It was very common and that WLS was the best avenue to address this. He also explained the various WLS procedures and explained why he prefers the mini-lap RGB.
His office staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The financial cooridnator told me I had nothing to worry about - she would take care of everything with the insurance company.
I was most impressed with Dr. Aframs "complete package" of care. Within the center, there is a couselor, a nutritionist, a fitness expert, and other staff to help you to be successful with the surgery. Also, the receptionist let me know that if I had any questions, I should call. Apparently, if Dr. Afram is in the office, he takes the calls then and handles them personally rather than deferring to an assitant.

My first impression of Dr. Afram was that he is very professional and straight to he point. Overtime my impression of him has not changed. His staff and office are great, they all come to recognize you personaly, it's an overall good atmosphere. The least thing I like is that he's a little too short, but professional with answering questions. Future patients should know that he comes highly reccomended, I've mentioned his name a couple of times and people knew of him or had been to see him.
