I have so far really enjoyed working with Dr. Morton and the Stanford Staff. The first time I walked into Stanford, everyone was very nice and polite. They guided me through the whole process and even though I arrived half an hour early they still got me into a room right away. Dr. Morton is a very soft spoken man, he knows what he is but I could tell that he was very busy and just wanted to get through the information he had to give me so he could move on. That being said he answered every single one of the question that I had.

The day of surgery he was very kind to my family, explaining everything that was going to happen and when they could expect notification. My stay at Standford was wonderful! Well, ok, it wasn't a hotel or anything, but the doctors always came in smiling, the nurses were extrememly helpful. Once an RN walked with me at 3am because I was awake and wanted to get up even though she was the only nurse in her section. Everyone (Doctors and nurses) always made sure that my pain was under control and made sure to ask if there was anything I needed before they left.

As far as I can tell Dr. Morton has a great aftercare program. He told me that he would be following up with me for 5 years after the surgery. He also advised me to contact him at once when I got pregnant as he would assist my OBGYN in determining my care. This made me feel a lot more comfortable about getting pregnant after surgery as most doctors still arn't familiar with the effects of bariatric surgery.

Dr. Morton also provided me with his email address so I can email him any questions I may have. He has always replied promptly. I can also call the hospital at anytime and talk to a nurse if the matter is pressing.

When I first met Dr. Morton at Stanford, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice he was, and genuinely caring about any concerns my husband and I had. It was under the suggestion of Dr. Morton that my husband and I had our surgeries on the same day. He performed them both.
The office staff was wonderful. Each one answered any questions or concerns immediately, and always made you feel comfortable. I have to give Michael, the surgical nurse coordinator the biggest props though, because I feel Michael always went above and beyond the call of duty. He would call out of the blue to check on us.
Because Stanford is a teaching hospital, there are always other surgeons that are under a fellowship and under the direction of Dr. Morton. There was only one of those "fellows" that I took a big dislike to, and I was not afraid to let him know it. His name is Dr. Perryman. He may be a nice enough guy, but when my husband had complications after the surgery, Dr. Perryman was not very forthcoming with information about it. At our first post-op appointment, it was Dr. Perryman that we first saw (Dr. Morton always saw you as a patient at each appointment, even if you were seeing one of the fellows.) When Dr. Perryman walked in, he smile and greeted us, and I just glared. He asked me if I was all right, and I looked him square in the eye and told him, "I don't like you!" He chuckled and said, "Well, that's honest.

My impression of Dr. Morton only changed slightly, and that was at our 1st yr anniversary appointment. He appeared to be abrupt, and way too busy; and maybe he was just having an off day. It is really hard to say; however, even though there is no need to return (and since we've changed insurance, we can't afford to), his staff is still helpful with any questions or concerns that may arise.

The aftercare was top notch! The doctors do not leave stones unturned, and they have no problem beign nosy about what you're eating, how much exercise you get, making sure you take your supplements, etc. They make suggestions about which protein supplements you may like, etc. They also don't require you use a certain brand of supplement, but do want you to consider the value of each one.

The risks were explained prior to surgery, and my biggest complication was the drain tube getting stuck. My husband on the other hand, had more serious complications, which included bleeding in his intestines, and a small stricture at a later time.

I lost 94 lbs; my husband has lost 160 lbs. I went from a size 18/20 down to a size 6. (I have even gotten into some 4's). My husband went from a 48 waist pants down to 32 waist pants.

Both my husband and I have experienced vast improvements in our health since the surgery. No more Type II diabetes, no more high cholesterol, no more high blood pressure (and the medications that went along with that stuff.) We both still have sleep apnea; mine has improved, my husband's has not. We aren't sure why my husband's sleep apnea has not improved; however, he is going to have a new sleep study done next month - so more to come on that note.

I've given Dr. Morton and his staff a 5 star rating because I believe with all my heart that he is the very best at what he does. His skill and knowledge as a surgeon is unsurpassed (he's THE guy here on the west coast anyway!), and as I said before, he's very nice and genuinely concerned about his patients.

A bit too busy for just plain folks but competent and well regarded by his staff and colleagues. The office staff is friendly enough but many scheduling snafus.

Overall, Morton and his medical team are first rate.

Feel very confident in his ability to help me with my healthy transition. He is very quiet, I have only met with him once so far. He spent a good amount of time talking with my husband and I about everything related to the surgery and our life afterwards. I really am looking forward to having him perform my surgery.

When I first met Dr. Morton, I knew that I had made the correct choice. I chose to have the lap band and he totally felt comfortable with my decision. The entire experience was better than I had hoped. I had complications 9 months out and had to have my lap band removed. I was quite ill for several months that required a 5 month stay in the hospital at Stanford. Once again, Dr. Morton was there and literally saved my life. He eventually had to convert me to a gastric sleeve and I have been very satisfied. The staff was wonderful. The support group that Stanford provides has been a great sourse of information and encouragement. I travel 1 hour each way per month to attend the meetings. The meetings are also key to success which Dr. Morton stresses at the orientatoin meeting. I think that anyone would be lucky to have him as their Surgeon. He's the best out there!

Dr. Morton and his staff have been very friendly so far. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable and open to answering any questions that I have had. I only saw him for my support group meeting and a few minutes of my first appointment though. I am going down for my first pre-op appointment next week and will be meeting with his nurse. I don't know if I will see him then or not. Guess I'll find out then.

So far so good. The staff there is attentive and helpful. Time will tell.

Dr Morton performed my VSG on 3/24/09. I'm just about 2 weeks post op at the time of this review. First the good stuff: I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Morton. From the moment I woke up I could tell that the stapling and suturing had gone perfectly. I was home within 30 hours.rnrnNow about Stanford and surgery in general. I was very disappointed in the after care. I had a tremendous amount of trouble getting nurses to respond to me, had trouble maneuvering the bed and the controls, had no privacy what so ever because I was by the door and the nurses kept forgetting to close my curtain and no real direction to help me get better. I left within 30 hours because I felt like I was much more capable of healing myself at home. Likewise the aftercare is very weak. My first meeting with the surgery staff post-op was disappointing. I have received most of my support from obesityhelp.com
