I was referred to Dr. Lord by a gastro doctor who has been treating me for complications caused by my Mini-Gastric Bypass (done by Dr. Robert Rutledge in 2000) over the last three years. I went to his office to make an appointment, and found out that there was a seminar the following night, so I went to the seminar. rnrnI was very impressed Dr. Lord and his staff at the seminar. Dr. Lord is hilarious! It's hard to find a person with brains and personality, but Dr. Lord has both. I enjoyed the seminar, and his staff called me a couple of weeks later with a date for my first appointment with Dr. Lord.rnrnI met with Dr. Lord on June 3, 2009. Again, I was very impressed with his personality and his knowledge of the MGB and complications. He explained the risk of revision to lap RNY, and was very honest and upfront about the steps that I would need to follow to get a revision and what I could expect after a revision. rnrnHe ordered blood work, a chest xray, and an EKG. He told me that I needed to get a Pap and a Mammogram, since I was overdue for those. He said that after I complete all of the medical tests, he would have me scheduled for an upper endoscopy that he, himself, will do. He also requires several meetings with nutritionists who will instruct me in pre-op and post-op diets, as well as nutrition behavior modification. I have scheduled those visits in the month of June.rnrnI went home and scheduled all of my other medical tests in the month of June, so I hope things will move quickly. Insurance may be a hurdle, as they usually are with nearly all kinds of surgery these days. As I understand it, Dr. Lord has a great staff to deal with insurance filing, so hopefully things will go smoothly. I'll try to update as things progress.
May 09 Update: What can I say about Dr. Lord...he is cocky as hell (and readily admits it), the best at what he does (and readily admits it), and genuinely loves his calling. That just emanates from him the minute you meet him and grows each time you meet him. I think the man is funny as hell, and kind of sexy in a 'professor' sort of way. LOL. Plus, he thinks I'm HOT (tells me and my friends that exact phrase every time I/they go in for check-ups), which of course gives my ego a boost. He is THE BEST and I love him to death. rnrnAfter surgery: Updating my opinion of Dr. Lord - I like him alot! He and his staff were awesome when I was in the hospital! He was attentive and funny. I enjoyed the other doctor coming in as well (he's very nice plus he's easy on the eyes). LOLrnrn1st Impression: Although I've had several meetings with Dr. Lord I haven't quite figured him out yet. :o) He really loves his work and is very animated about it, which is what attracted me to Sacred Heart's Weight Loss Institute. He's made me feel very secure and safe, which is a good thing. I'm not scared of the surgery because of his self-confidence.
I first met Dr. Lord at a bariatric surgery seminar. My first impression of him was that he was very confident which bordered on arrogance, but in a good way. I wouldn't want someone who was unsure if himself to operate on me. My second encounter with him was my 1st cosultation. He was staight to the point. His confidence actually put me at ease. His staff is great and very thurough, always happy to answer any question, and most of them have had the surgery and are more than willing to share their experiences. So far, everything they have told me has worked out just like they said.
I began my journey to have this surgery in June of 2008 -- I attended a seminar at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola FL and met Dr Lord and his staff. My husband and I were both impressed with his how open he was and with his success rate. I began the paper work process and by July I had my first appointment rnrnI was most impressed by the time Dr. Lord took with me talking about my medical history which was quite detailed in terms of a previous heart condition. His staff was so pleasant and when I needed to talk to someone if they were not available....guess what...they actually returned my phone calls!rnrnIt was very clear from my interactions with Dr. Lord and his staff that they were going to be there for more throughout this process.....from the visits with the nutritionist, the psychologist right on to the preop hospital tour and orientation....they were there.rnrnHis insurance staff was knowledgable and kept right on top of the paperwork and authorizaitons (I had my gallbladder out and a hiatal hernia repair along with laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery) My FMLA paperwork and short term disability paper work was completed quickly so I didn't have to worry about work or money during my recovery period. rnrnI was very pleased to see how many visits I would have for aftercare.....I did not feel as though I had the surgery and was left floundering. I was provided with support groups, follow up appointments with nutritionists and was oh so happy with the phone calls at home to follow up on me once I was released.rnrnDr. Lord has great bedside manner, but more importantly a great level of surgical competence. I appreciated the fact that even though it was a lower reimbursement for him to do all of the surgeries together, he did so because it was better for me. What more can you ask of your surgeon. rnrnI had my surgery March 31 after completeing a six month weight loss trial. I was 315 the day before my surgery and as of today I am 280 (May 2) I would do it all over again in a heart beat.
What was your first impression of him/her? rnrnI absolutely loved him the minute he opened his mouth.rnrnHow did your impression change over time? rnrnI still adore him!rnrnHow would you describe his/her office staff?rnrnSuper helpful and knowlegeable!rn rnWhat did you like least about him/her? rnrnNothingrnrnWhat should future patients know about him/her? rnrnHe is a very busy manrnrnHow much does he/she emphasize aftercare? rnrnVery importantrnrnDoes he/she have a structured aftercare program?rnrnYes rnHow did he/she address the risks of surgery?rnVery upfront rnHow would you rate him/her overall? rn100+rnWhich is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great?rnboth are important
Dr. Lord is a busy man who didn't seem to have much time for his patients. My initial visit with him was so fast. I felt like a cow being herded through a fence. My Pre-Op visit wasn't even with him, it was with his Physician's Assistant. On the other hand, his team is great. Each one of them was always very quick to reply to a phone call or email. I felt very informed going into my sugery. We were provided with 3 ring binders full information, shopping lists, guides, recipes, and instructions. During my 3 day hospital stay, I was very pleased to see Dr. Lord visit my room each day. Again, his visits were short, but he was there. I recommend his program to anyone.
Dr Jeffrey Lord is one of the best surgeons i have ever had. Him and his staff are so friendly and they are there if you need anything. I just had my surgery on the 25th of February and it was the best thing i have ever done. My stay at the hospital was wonderful everyone was so caring and helpful. I will in a heartbeat recommend Dr. Lord to my friends and family. He makes you feel so comfortable. The aftercare is hard but if you are 100% wanting this done you will do everything he says to do. He lets you know the risks of surgery in his seminar and at your first appointment with him. He is just a fantastic doctor. Everything was great I really appreciate everything he had done for me
Dr. Lord is very confident and very informative. He also has a great sense of humor. I was very impressed with his confidence in his ability which made me feel much more comfortable about the whole process. He addressed the risks of surgery very matter of fact. He also gave his own statistics, which are much better than the average surgeon. The office personnel are very caring and helpful. My experience with them so far has been nothing but a pleasure. I would rate Dr. Lord and his staff at a 10/10. If I were forced to have a negative comment at this point, I would honestly have to say that I could not do it. Oh well, I guess the ONLY negative thing I could say is the parking is very limited. But then, I just use valet and the walk is not far at all. So, all in all, that is not very negative! Update on this: There is reserved parking now for bariatric patients right outside the door. Can't get any better than that!!! I would like to add at this point that I can't say enough good things about Dr. Lord, his staff, and the hospital staff on the bariatric unit. They were absolutely the best. I couldn't ask for better treatment. They were all so thoughtful and caring.
