Even after 10 years, Dr Vaughn and his office staff are awesome. I needed information about my RNY sent to my doctor here in Jacksonville. Instead of faxing or mailing the information, Dr Vaughn took the time to actually the doctor and answer any and all of his questions. 10 years later, my current weight is 170lbs. I have lost a total of 330lbs. I am so glad that I had the surgery and even more happy that I used Dr Vaughn. He is a nice, kind, and compassionate professional. Not a day passes that I regret having the gastric bypass nor do I regret using Dr Vaughn. If there is any way possible for you to have your surgery done by Dr Vaughn, I would highly recommend it.

I live in Jacksonville Fl. I have not met Dr. vaughn yet. I found him through the obesity.com web site. Everything has been done either through the internet, or over the phone. I must admit, his staff (Carol and Linda) have been great. They call me all the time, the made sure I had everything I needed for the insurance company, and submitted all the papers as soon as I sent them all in.
The only thing I can say about dislikes is that i don't live in Jupitar and have not met the surgeon uet. I have emailed several of his patients, and they all rave about him and the hospital where he does the procedure. The only thing I don't like is the fact that after being in the hospital for 3 days, I will be required to say in Jupitar for 7 additional days.

I met Dr Vaughan last year at one of his seminars which he requires you attend before he even schedules your initial visit. He was confident, friendly, approachable and extremely educated about weight loss surgery at the seminar. He took time to answer individual questions and took time to make everyone feel like they weren't alone in this journey. Due to insurance I was unable to get the surgery done last year like I had desperately hoped to do but his staff was very helpful and worked with me. Fortunately I have new insurance that covers the surgery so I had my first consultation with Dr Vaughan. He was thorough with describing what to expect and what he expects from you. Some people may interpret it as cockiness but I disagree. Speaking with some of his previous patient he has a great track record. His bedside manner is great, he even took time to joke around with me about my "Alabama" t shirt. I'm excited to start this journey with him and his staff.

My dauthter also thought she had researched Dr Jefferson Vaughn, really how much can you research? My daughter and others she now knows suffered injury and permanent damage at the hands of Dr. Jefferson Vaughan. As I try and warn others let me say this it has been over seven years and my daughter is still having complications. Another surgeron on the Treasure Coast is going to do surgery on my daughter this week and hopefully repair some of the damage caused at the hands of Dr. Vaughaan. Ask Doctor Vaughn why he went to Alabama for several years and left Jupiter. Beware and ask him if he has malpractice insurance. I also had baratic surgery many years ago and did not have one complication, so I do know what mistakes he made. Dr. Vaughan does have great bedside manner, until something goes wrong.

Dr. Vaughan is an excellent surgeon. I researched prior to making my decision quite a few years ago. My first impression was that he knew his stuff. He also has a great sense of humor.
After my initial pre-op appointment, I felt he was a bit jaded and sarcastic. However, I'm sure that having performed this surgery for as many years as he has, he's seen more than his share of "failures" (as in those who refuse to change their eating habits so they can fully utilize the weight loss tool they have been given.) So I had no problem with the small amount of attitude I perceived. I do suspect that Dr. Vaughan does not suffer cheaters or fools gladly, so you'd better be ready to play by the rules or pay the consequences. I really like & admire that!
I will admit though that it is difficult to follow him when he's talking to me because he spouts off information so freakin' fast! Again, I'm sure it has to do with the "I've said and done this a thousand times" mentality. Unfortunately, it tends to make me feel like I'm being rushed out of the exam room. Then again, I know that I am very spoiled by my PCP, who is very thorough, deliberate, and patient when dealing with all her patients. She always makes eye contact when she speaks to you, & she ends each visit by asking "Have I answered all of your questions?" They just don't make them like her anymore.
Anyhoo, back to Dr. Vaughan: his nurses and office staff are the best! They are always ready to help and always pleasant to deal with. Dr. Vaughan puts heavy emphasis on aftercare, and offers a support group. Sadly, I can't attend his group since I live 2 hours away. But if you live in the Jupiter/West Palm Beach area, you can also gain access to the local fitness center for aqua classes and working out. I'm sorry I can't recall the exact offer, because I knew I couldn't use it so I didn't really pay attention to the details.
Dr. Vaughan addressed the risks of the surgery to my satisfaction. I trusted him greatly, so I had very little concern about risks. And of course, he is first and foremost a surgeon, so his competence greatly overshadows his bedside manner. And that is in no way a bad thing! :) Nor is it to say that he is not pleasant. He just seems very blunt to me; along with his superior surgical skills, I will take that any day over hand-holding!
My overall rating for Dr. Vaughan would have to be 99.9%. I'd give him 100%, but I don't want my review to be considered suspect. ;)

My first impression was \"this guy is good and he knows it\". He was well informed and approachable. As I got to know him more and as we dealt with all of my husband's complications I felt that we were extremely lucky to have Dr. Vaughan in our corner. His response time was excellent. He was honest and addressed not only my questions but my nurse anesthetist mother-in-law's too. I would recommend him to anyone considering WLS or any other general surgery in a heart beat.

Dr. Vaughan was an excellent surgeon from start to finish, however, has left the state of Florida and is no longer available for follow-up care and questions. I understand he is practicing in another state and I would absoluately recommend him as a bariatric surgeon. His pre-operative counseling and care was the best and I felt completely comfortable when the day of my surgery arrived. He provided excellent follow-up care until closing his practice (I was 9 months post-op) and gave me all resources necessary to continue on vitamin replacement therapy and how to continue to receive them through his practice. He was compassionate and had a wonderful bedside manner. It's a shame Florida patients no longer have access to such a wonderful surgeon.

May 29, 2005...rnrnNow that I am 18 months out from surgery I can update my thoughts about Dr. Vaughan. I live 800+ miles away so it is important that I have a team that will answer questions quickly. They are always just a phone call away. E-mails Dr. Vaughan doesn't like to answer (I'm sure he doesn't sit at his computer a lot) but when he does he is very informative. His staff is great and they respond quickly. Dr. Vaughan is totally different than any other surgeon I have read about. He has the four rules and if you stick to them you are going to reach your goal. He is quite strict about this because he knows it works. I have been very successful in my weight loss and although we had a difference about my goal weight (me 133 (I'm there), he at 125 (maybe!). rnrnPrior to Surgery comments...12/3/03 I met Dr. Vaughan today and he is just great. Very direct and gives you all the information. The risks were clearly spelled out. He really has a very structured aftercare so we can get the most out of what we have done to become more healthy. rnrnThe staff is great. Absolutely no complaints. The office was conducive to obese people, no arms on the chairs, and even small, sturdy, secure double sized chairs for those who need more security. Getting onto the table was the only problem but Dr. Vaughan was there to assist and it was fine. rnrnDr. Vaughn and Dr. Rowe worked together thru some complications including adhesions and a hernia repair. I really believe (I don't know this) that anyone else would have stopped. I was in surgery 3 1/2 hours.rnrnDr. Vaughan is very competent surgery wise, and his bedside manner is good -- you have to know how to make him laugh!rnrnOctober 4, 2004: My disappointment was that I didn't get to see Dr. Vaughan on my six month checkup. That is his policy and I really didn't like that. I love his PA but he was the surgeon and I wanted to see him.rnrnApril 2005: Stopped in at the office to pick up some protein bars and got to see staff and Dr. Vaughan. He made me feel great. It was good walking in there weighing almost 200 lbs less than on surgery day. Thanks Dr. Vaughan. You really did change my life.rnrnMy doctor retired from weight loss surgery and moved to Alabama. It really is a shame because I believe he was one of the best. He made us stick to the rules and after watching so many fail at some of the silly rules they have, it makes me sad. I am a success because Dr. Vaughan was serious about what he did.

Dr. Vaughan was wonderful. My first impression was that he was sharp, dedicated and that he wasn't in it just for the money. He talked about how he got into the specialization and that he grew to love seeing the transformations and how beneficial it was to his patients. The only impression that changed over time was that he seems a tad impatient with male patients than female patients. But he is a top notch surgeon and his track record shows it. I wouldn't go with anyone else and recommend him highly. His aftercare program is very good. He was clear on the risks of the surgery. I rate him a 10 of 10 overall. I think his bedside manner and his surgical competence is of the highest quality - even when he's gruff post-op with you his intentions are always for your best well being and for your own good.
