very frustrating to be approved by Aetna
for the surgery, but then not a single
one of the physicians in Washington want
to take my insurance because it is healthy
options. Trying to find alternatives right
now.
Update: At the moment my insurance company is
negotiating with Dr. Weber about the cost.
If Dr.Weber accepts he will be my surgeon.
His staff is very supportive. I attended his
required seminar and I was very impressed.
There were two post op clients at the
meeting and he was very excited to see them.
He seems very knowledeable and has many years
experience. He is not shy about explaining
the risk and stresses that he has a pretty
intense aftercare program. I hope everything
goes through with him because I feel very
confident in having Dr. Weber for my surgeon.
My god what can't I say about Dr. Weber he is so awesome. I trusted and respected prior to my surgery. But now he has a new Mega FAN!! That man was so awesome, he came to my room everyday even Sunday, in fact he rode his bike to the hospital to personally check on me. It was truly a blessing for me to have had someone like that be the one to change my life. Words can't express how kind he is and how much he cares for his pts.
Ive had my consultation with him and I told him all my concerns. He was honest and up front with me. He was really easy to talk to. The staff really seems supportive. He is really strict on what to eat after the surgery and about exercise. I stopped in to drop off some paperwork and he saw me and took me back to his office and we chatted and he gave me my orders for an Ultrasound and blood work, without an appt. He is so available to his patients.
I LOVE Dr. Weber!!! I have worked with physicians for years being a Registered Nurse and I am a pretty good judge of physicians and know what to look for when looking for a doctor. I knew that I did not want to see the surgeon in Tacoma that does WLS nor does any other health care people I know, so I went searching else where. I found Dr. James K. Weber in Seattle and researched his background by checking with the State of WA, asked his staff a lot of questions, credentials, past patients and hospital personel. He is an excellent surgeon with a very holistic approach to his patients needs. He is a competent surgeon, has an excellent follow-up program, expects lots of exercise, warm and caring bedside manner, he will anwser your questions and does not beat around the bush, easy access to him and he calls back promptly, I cannot say enough about him and his staff. Mary, Lisa & Andrea are the ones I have dealt with and they are the best. I trusted him completely to do what is right for me and he came through 100%. I cannot say enough good things about him. Call him, he's your man.
My PCP initially said he would not recommend me for surgery. He called me one week later saying he had researched the surgery, spoke with some WLS surgeons; and he was comfortable giving me a letter of recommendation. He offered me the names of four local surgeons. I selected Dr. Weber in Seattle after doing some research. Attended a group informational session on March 13, 2000; and on April 4,I had my first medical appointment with Dr. Weber. We are looking at a July, 2000 surgery date. Dr. Weber is very thorough; he will not submit documents or contact the insurance agency until after the patient has attended 2-3 visits with a psychologist; completion of several medical tests, including sleep apnea, pulmonary function test, cortisol test and a letter of recommendation from the PCP. Dr. Weber insists on a vigorous exercise program, regular follow-up meetings; aftercare; and contact with others who have had WLS. He was very clear about the risks of surgery.
I met Dr. Weber back in 10/99, I really liked his office staff and him. Had insurance complications, but have prevailed againt the evil Ins. co... ha ha
So am now looking for a date to have surgery in April 2000.
He was very open and honest with me, we discussed "eating around" the surgery, various procedures available, I have decided against the RNY which is what I initially thought I would prefer. He convinced me I would be a better candidate for the VBG, and after more research on my part, I agree.
He seemed glad that I had done my research into this procedure.
He has a very structured after care program, as outlined by his staff.
I feel that he has a good bedside manner, his credential look good, as do his stats for success. I give him 2 thumbs up!
4/12
Am even more impressed since surgery. Everything went exactly as he said it would. I went in/under around 8 am and was in my room before noon. He called my Mom at 10:30, exactly when he said he would, to tell her everything went well. And it really did.
Dr. Weber has a wonderful bedside manner. He obviously cares very much for his patients and his specialty. I met another patient who had surgery 4/4 and was in the same hospital, also two ladies about to have the surgery while in the hospital. I see him 4/13 to have staples removed and for first follow-up. I honestly cannot think of a single thing, to date, that would cause me not to recommend him as a surgeon.
I was quite pleased with my first visit. He explained the procedure and what I could expect after surgery. I felt good that there were no miracle claims for the amount of weight loss I would experience. The office staff were very helpful in getting things started. We are now starting the fight with the insurance and the staff have been full of hints on how to proceed. Dr. Weber and his staff were very helpful in the battle to get the insurance to approve my surgery.
The pre-op information given was excellant. His office staff made the process as easy as possible. The potential risks were covered, and the importance of following the post-op regimen was emphasized.
Post-op care has been excellant. The nurses in the hospital noticed a problem with my oxygenation during my stay and wrote up notes for the doctor. Dr. Weber reviewed the notes and worked with my pulmonary speciallist to develop a plan to ensure I was cared for properly. Follow up visits to his office while being somewhat harried, are encouraging. We would make a hell of a cheerleader.
I would rate Dr. Weber very highly as a surgeon, he makes you feel like a close personel friend that he wants to give special care to.
I've only met with Dr. Weber once, because
of the distance between us. I have a few times
talked to him on the phone and keep in close
contact with Mary, his office person.
I've been looking into this for over 10
months now and am sure I've needed every day
to prepare myself for this upcoming life
changing event.
Because of the distance between Dr. Weber
and I, I'm depending on my primary care Dr.,
who has promised to continue to support my
decision. He's not yet had a patient who has
had the surgery, but is willing to move on.
So far, I've had a lot more understanding and
support from the medical community than by
my friends and family. My husband and son are
very supportave and to me thats all that
matters.
I should have a surgery date as soon as the
10th of January. If you believe in prayer, I
believe I could use a few. Thanks lots.
I was extremely impressed with Dr Weber and his staff. You are treated like a human and part of a large family. Dr Weber is very informative and when I left his office I knew exactly what to expect. He has always been there when I have questions about aftercare. I highly recommend Dr Weber. On a scale of 1 to 10 I rate Dr Weber 15. My only regret is I did not know of Dr. Weber years ago.
