Dr. Maher is an open and honest doctor. He may not tell you what you want to hear, but he will tell you the truth. I respect this in a physician. His nurse in charge - Nancy is AWESOME!!!!!! She is very knowledgeable and helpful. I look forward to visiting them when I go to get fills - which have not been easy. I thank God for bringing them into my life!
I cannot say enough good things about not only Dr Maher, but his whole team. I had only a few problems while in the hospital, all of which were taken care of right away. The aftercare has been great...every question answered completely and quickly. If I needed anymore surgery, I would trust Dr Maher and his team with no problem.
When I first met Dr. Maher I did not like his bedside manner and he came off as very abrasive, but over the course of my check-in appointments, and hearing him speak publically, I began to like him much better, now I'm about a month away from my surgery and I like him MUCH better, in fact I am looking forward to working with him. My last appt, when I check in, I had lost 38(of the 50)lbs he asked me to lose, and he had nothing but praise for me and positivity!
My fir st impression was he was a caring and very harsh. That was the first visit. Over time my impression changed because he let me know the seriousness of the procedure and he motivated me to stick with my diet and I lost 14 pounds before surgery. The office staff was awesome. Jill Meador the nurse in charge is a super star. My surgueon really empazied exercise, vitamins, protein consumtion. He told me I could die from this a small chance, but I had to know the risks for myself. He made sure I tried other dietrs and programs. I had to keep a six week journal of what I ate after my first visit. He still wasn't sure at that point if he was going to deem me a canidfate.Over all excellant surgeon. He has great competence a tab bit gruff at first on bedside manner, but after surgery he is a teddy bear. Everybody is different I didn,t like the fluid pouch I had to carry around with me for two weeks. I was glad when that was removed. The lunch room at the hospital had sent me up a few theings I couldn't have, But I had common sense enough to know not to eat them
I was very impressed with Dr Maher and his credentials..he is very personable, yet businesslike, and concerned about how the patient will cope with changing habits after surgery.. The staff in his office was wonderful-very helpful, kind and courteous. I only saw him during my initial consult, and once during my hospitalization-I was more in contact with Dr Lee who is doing a fellowship with Dr Maher...She was wonderful as well-caring,concerned and kind..I am very pleased with my care from both of these surgeons
Dr. maher is a very intelligent, extremely nice and gentle, compassionate surgeon. I am an Anesthesiologist and have encountered many surgeons in my field over the years. Dr. Maher stands out from the rest. I was very comfortable discussing my case with him. He is a very busy surgeon - but took the time to speak with my husband and I at length. He would not perform the surgey after my father had recently died (b/c he understood the emotions, etc.) I was also imporessed by that. It made me feel he was looking ou for the patient and not just the monetary gain from a new procedure.
Dr. maher is very skilled a the laparscopic approach to bypass and has a low turn over rate to open.
I really have not had the chance to find anythin bad to report. I just had my bypass about 8 days ago . I have been working with their office since about May.
The program at MCV is very sturctured. You feel that you're in a program that certainly knows what they are doing. There are bariatric physicians, bariatric nurse practitioners, bariatric psychologists /psychiatrists and bariatric social workers, dieticiains. You are overwhelmed with clincial resources.
I called the clinic at 2am one evening with a question about pain from home during the first week of surgery and received the cheif surgeon of the service. I could not beleive that. The program makes you feel that you are veyr special. There also is a support group for bariatric patients every third Tuesday. You maintain a relationship with the program lifelong. The nurses maintain very frequent contact by phone and also in the office. I am very pleased with my progress. (lost 20pounds in first 6 days...) I am being very strict about taking in 50 grams of protein or more per day.I think it is a great program.
