When I first met Dr. Kemmerling I was put at ease by his calm manner. He seemed to be very understanding and care a great deal for his patients. I have since found out that he does in fact care very deeply for his patients. This is not just a job for him. Dr. Kemmerling is saving lives and restoring lives through the gift God has given to him to perform these very sensitive operations.
The staff at his office are true Angels! Kathy, Dr. Kemmerlings nurse, is always readily availible to answer questions and cheer you on! I have always been treated as their only patient and the most important person on earth when I call or come in. I am not a dollar sign, a chart number or a pain in the butt, I am Joy, a real person that is treated with kindness and respect. Even if they are late you are still made comfortable!
Mary, is Dr. kemmerlings Coodinator! What a Saint! When I was in the hospital, after my operation, Mary came down to visit me one day after work. She treated me as though I was a friend of hers. We chatted about how I was feeling and some about our families. What an awhsome lady to come and give me the gift of her time! I felt truly blessed!

Dr. James Kemmerling is one of the most patient, understanding and gifted surgeon. His empathy to helping obese people is apparent when you shake his gifted hands. Dr. K has a strong faith in God and this guides him in his mission. I think the world of him!
Dr. K makes a point to be at all Support Groups and does not rush you through your appointments. He cares whats happening to you. I rate him to be of the highest qualified surgeons in the midwest. Thank you Dr. K

I found Dr. Kemmerling to be straight forward, very respectful, and knowledgeable. He is very easy to talk with and seems to have a good sense of humor. He didn't rush through my appointment and was willing to answer all my questions. I immediately felt comfortable with him and look forward to being his patient. His office staff is great. His practice is relatively new and quickly growing.

I met with Dr. Kemmerling on 2/20/03 and my first impression was, he seemed to care about his patients. He is fairly new at this, but his passion to do it is apparent. I would like to say hi to Annette! This is Dr. K right arm. She is very helpful and sweet. Even though Dr. K hasn'd done much in this area, he has been through extensive training. I feel cofident putting my life in his hands, and I dont take that lightly. As he states, we are going to be in a patient/Dr relationship for life, you need to find someone you feel good about! And I do feel good about Dr. Kemmerling. He stressed the risk, and even scared me a bit, but his intent is to know what I can expect, that I dont walk blindly into this and I appreciate that. I will be starting his clinics Support group, which he takes part in.

Hmm...to answer these questions...you should look at my profile..lol. It's all in there. But I'll try to be brief.
First Impression: He is amazing. A real person and a competent Surgeon. I am trusting him with my life, which is not something I take lightly. I am a real person to him and not just a number. Ilike that. He is being extra cautious and I definitly am happy about that.
His staff was friendly adn helpful, especially his nurse Annette :-) I wanted to give her a big hug by the time we were done adn say thank you for making me feel so at ease.
He is extremely thorough in describing the surgery adn the risks as well as the techniques he will perform to not only prevent but rectify any complications.
I would never be able to say enough good things about him in this little box. NOt only is he surgically competent but so far his ppl skills are very refreshing to find in a Dr.

I was very favorably impressed with Dr. Kemmerling. I had several previous conditions including a previous surgical infection and large hernia to repair. He was very careful to consider everything in the timing of my surgery. He has a very sincere and caring bedside manner. I felt very well looked after by him and his office staff. While I was in the hospital I received excellant care. We had many nice, supportive conversations that left me feeling his genuine caring for the well being of his patients. Dr Kemmerling was very upfront on the risks of this surgery and at the same time very supportive of my personal reasons for wanting this surgery. Not only did I not experience any problems with the surgery but Dr. Kemmerling was extremely careful and I would say conservative in testing after the surgery how everything was working. I ended up with 2 upper GI's and a cat scan. At the time I didn't like the tests but now very much appreciate the checking me all over before releasing me to a mushy diet and to home. I strongly feel his conservative approach has helped me avoid any complications. My only complaint is that his practice in bariatric surgery is relatively recent. I am his second patient. So aftercare other than regular office visits throughout the year, is not there. There is no real peer support yet. I would love to see that develop.
Overall I would give Dr. Kemmerling and his office staff an A+.
Update!!
Dr. Kemmerling now has quite the after care program. And I am part of it. I was hired as a bariatric patient coordinator. We have a support group that meets monthly and weekly swim times. And that is just to start. I do hospital visits and sometimes office visits. I love that I can help my brothers and sisters in their journey and share with them my journey in WLS. I mostly enjoy working with people who care so much for their obese patients.

I just met with Dr. Kemmerling today and my first impression of him was that he cared and was very straight forward. His office staff was very nice and helpful. They answered all my questions. The first person I talked to, Mary K., is actually a person that was operated on by Dr. Kemmerling so she was very insightful. He did go through the aftercare process, but a whole lot, but like I said, this was my first real meeting on the surgery, so I didn't expect them to spend all day explaining it to me. I looked through the info they gave me to take home and they do have a structured aftercare program that is pretty straightforward. He did explain the risks with the surgery and the steps he takes to prevent anything bad from happening. Overall, so far, everything was fine with him. No complaints at all with Dr. Kemmerling or any of his staff.
