James J. Hamilton Jr. Bariatric Surgeon MD, FACS

Dr. James J. Hamilton, Bariatric Surgeon James J. Hamilton Jr., MD, FACS, FASMBS is an experienced and skilled surgeon practicing at The University of Kansas Physicians Topeka General, Vascular & Bariatric Surgery Center. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Bariatric Surgery Division at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Hamilton graduated from Kansas State University and went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine where he served as President of the Medical Student Assembly, and President of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. After his residency, Dr. Hamilton traveled to the University of Aberdeen, Scotland where he trained in vascular surgery for one year as a Registrar in Surgery at the Royal Infirmary and performed a fellowship in hepatic and biliary surgery at the University of Bern, Switzerland. He returned to his home state of Kansas where he has shared his surgical expertise with countless patients and mentored each and every surgical resident at The University of Kansas. Dr. Hamilton specializes in many types of surgery, including minimally invasive surgery, weight loss surgery, pediatric surgery, cancer treatment and more. Dr. Hamilton is board-certified in general surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS). When he is not singing with the Topeka Festival Singers, gardening, fly fishing, hiking and spending time with his family and friends, he is busy in the operating room performing life-changing surgeries.
