About MeDr. James J. Hamilton, Bariatric Surgeon James J. Hamilton Jr., MD, FACS, FASMBS is an experienced and skilled surgeon practicing at The University of Kansas Physicians Topeka General, Vascular & Bariatric Surgery Center. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Bariatric Surgery Division at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Hamilton graduated from Kansas State University and went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine where he served as President of the Medical Student Assembly, and President of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. After his residency, Dr. Hamilton traveled to the University of Aberdeen, Scotland where he trained in vascular surgery for one year as a Registrar in Surgery at the Royal Infirmary and performed a fellowship in hepatic and biliary surgery at the University of Bern, Switzerland. He returned to his home state of Kansas where he has shared his surgical expertise with countless patients and mentored each and every surgical resident at The University of Kansas. Dr. Hamilton specializes in many types of surgery, including minimally invasive surgery, weight loss surgery, pediatric surgery, cancer treatment and more. Dr. Hamilton is board-certified in general surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS). He has the unique gift of understanding what his patients need from him as he has had weight loss surgery himself. When he is not singing with the Topeka Festival Singers, gardening, fly fishing, hiking and spending time with his family and friends, he is busy in the operating room performing life-changing surgeries. His surgical expertise in weight loss surgery procedures includes the Roux-en-Y (RNY) Gastric Bypass, Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG), Duodenal Switch (DS), and Lap-Band. I'm very happy to have had Dr Hamilton perform the surgery. He did a great job, the incisions are barely visible and everything is going really well 10 days out. He is a skilled surgeon and has a wonderful bedside manner. Highly recommended!

evemoonbeam on Feb. 5, 2009This guy is great. Ive lost 88 lbs. My stay in the hospital was great they took good care of me. Dr. Hamilton's nurses call me if i need blood work done and if they are concerned.
