He was very thorough and kind. His office staff was incredibly helpful. I called on a Monday and was scheduled for an appointment that Friday. I know he is incredible busy, so I was impressed. His aftercare along with the dumping are really what sold me on him. He follows his patients for life. That is some major accountablility. He discussed in detail the risks and benefits of surgery.
Dr. Sapala is awsome, I've never seen the man without a smile on his face, you can just see the caring nature in his eyes. He is very thourough in explaining everything, and right before surgery, while they were getting ready to put me under, he stood beside me and rubbed my arm until i was out, the last thing I remember before going under was looking up and seeing his kind eyes looking at me reasurringly, that really means alot
My first impression of Dr. Sapala was that he was very nice and very informational. His office staff is very helpful. He emphasizes aftercare very strongly. He seems very big on "following the rlues of post-op care". The post-op program is very good and easy to follow. He answered every question that I had about the risks of my surgery. He is a very intelligent man and he made me feel alot better after talking to him about the surgery. His bedside manner and surgical competence are amazing. His staff will answer any question you have after surgery. They are a very big comfort to me.
I first met Dr. Sapala at a lecture he gave in Chicago at Michael Reese Hospital. He and Dr. Wood are both very knowledgeable and willing to explain every aspect of the surgery. Dr. Sapala has a great attitude and is very concerned about making everything very clear. My mom was with me for the consultation and he made her feel so much better about the procedure (I was already convinced, of course). Throughout my hospital stay Dr. Sapala was very attentive and made sure that everything was taken care of even if he was away from the hospital. His staff at the Jackson clinic is wonderful, including Barb, Teresa, and John. I never worry about calling too much and they always have answers for my questions!! I have 100% confidence in his competence and knowledge and would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone.
Dr Sapala is a wonderfully dedicated weight loss surgeon. He is THE EXPERT on the micropouch. Check out the micropouch at www.micropouch.com. Personally I think it is the BEST. I really liked Dr Sapala from my first visit. Dr Sapala is careful to answer questions and he was not rushing me at all. His brother does the diet counseling and is well informed plus very nice. I enjoyed talking with him! Teresa Hunter in Dr Sapala's office is very nice and super helpful. I give all of them a 10++++
I have not met with Dr. Sapala yet but have talked to his staff and they are extremely nice and helpful.
I had my Psych Eval today so it wont be long before my first consult!! Barb and Debbie in Dr, Sapala's office have both called me about different things so I feel like they really do care. I will update after my consult!!!
I met him on Feb 5th very nice man. I haven't had a one on one consultation with him yet.
2/18/02 I had my first conference with Dr Sapala and his staff on 2/15/02. The receptionist there was not all that pleasant (maybe she was having a bad day?) I came in early because of the distance asked if there were any cancellations. There weren't so we went to the mall and then returned. She hands me a packet that I need to fill out (Wondering why she didn't give me these when I was there earlier and we could of saved sometime) I waited almost 90 minutes before I got to see the Doctor. When my name was finally called.. I went for my BP check and weight. Then wisked to the doctor's room to wait another 25 minutes. Dr. Sapala took almost 40 minutes with my husband and I (no wonder I had such a wait). Taking time to explain everything thoroughly to us. Then we met with his twin brother John (he is also the nutritionist) he was very clear on what the expectations for my diet are. Exactly what and how much I was going to eat, and at what stage I was going to be able to eat anything with consistency though some of his termanology was a bit over my head and I had to try to translate it. Theresa (Dr Sapala's nurse) was very friendly. I had an extrememly pleasant visit. I am most comfortable with my decision at this time. I am sure my feeling will stay the same. I have the H-pylori bacteria so I am taking 14 days of prevpac. I requested that my surgery be in March because I work for a steel mill and we are suppose to turn around second quarter and that it would be hard for me to get the time off... Well it wasn't a problem I am scheduled for 3/11 and I do not need to return to Drs office until 1 week later!
My first meeting with Dr.Sapala was on Jan. 23. He is very professional, thorough, and a very caring person. He went over all of the aspects of the surgery including the risks. I was impressed that he brought up the Greenfield Filter; I need to have one because I have had hip replacement surgery and also because of my age. De. Sapala is a strong supporter of aftercare and has active support group meetings in several locations. I feel very comfortable and secure with my choice.
