Dr. Babineau is somewhat quiet but extremely knowledgeable. I drove to Tyler from Fort Worth because of recommendations I had received on Dr. Babineau's surgical competence and he lived up to everyone of them. I would highly recommend him. There was not anything I did not like about Dr. Babineau or his office staff. They were wonderful.
I wish I had gone to Mexico!rnI had Lap-Band almost four weeks ago. At the initial orientation, yes it's neat that the Dr gives most of the \"lesson\". However, the one on one focused more on whether your insurance covered it rather than is surgery (and which one) right for you! I ended up being a \"private pay\"--meaning all out of pocket to the tune of nearly $17,000. The morning of the surgery, I saw my surgeon all of about 5 minutes. He told my dad that when surgery was over, he himslef would actually call him to let him know how it went--that never happened. Also, he actually said that since it's Friday, I usually let the nurses do most of it--heaven forbid I interfere with Friday night and weekend plans! I saw him for what seemed about 3 minutes total after the surgery and that included an \"oh by the way you had a hietal hernia that I repaired\" but no explanation or anything. Oh and you'd think for that price you'd get a private room--but oh no, it's a semi-private!rnAftercare? What's aftercare? There's a one page handout that lists about 5 or 6 bullet statements of what you can/can't do and that's about all. You can get the handout that states when and where the support groups meet and encourage you to attend a free nutrition calss. In fact, my two week check up was DONE OVER THE PHONE, despite the fact that two days after the surgery I got a horrible rash and I thought one incision was infected!!! Also, if you're expecting the doctor to do the fills you'd be wrong. I thought Cathi was a NP, but other refer to her as his PA, but despite the fact that she's very nice, she's still not a doctor. It seems like most other places the actual M.D. doctor performs the fills.rnrnIt's also very hard to get them on the phone. If you leave a message they will eventually get back to you, usually same day, but if it's urgent (like when I had the rash), it was unclear what to do.rnrnAll in all, I felt treated like I was just another paying customer--which I do realize in the big picture is what I am to them. rnThis was just my experience. Others will probably have a different experience.
Dr. Babineau actually wound up doing my informational meeting. I also had a one-on-one consult with him at the end of the session. I left with the impression that he was very knowledgable and I have complete faith in him as a surgeon. There was really no discussion of an aftercare program.rnrnThe only thing that I did not like was that I felt kind of herded through the process by the office staff. Although, keep in mind that it was the day after Christmas and things were a little hectic. The insurance person was not there and that was not a good thing for me since I had questions. It just felt very rushed and I did not get the feeling of personal involvement from the staff.rnrnOverall, I woud rate the whole experience as positive, but I do wish that I was subject to the same positive treatment from the office staff that I've heard so much about from other posts.
Dr. Babineau and his staff are wonderful! He is very \"to the point\" to make sure you understand everything that is going to happen to you before and after surgery. His PA, Cathy, is wonderful as well. They have been here for me every step of the way. If I need anything, they are a phone call away. They really do care about their patients and it shows through their actions. I highly recommend him and his staff!
