Harvey Sugerman Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

When I first met Dr. Sugerman, I liked him immediately. He had scheduled an appointment for the Medical College of VA Sleep Disorder Center where I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and nocturnal myoclonus.
Dr Sugerman's staff treated me as if I was a part of their family. I felt comfortable asking questions and when I left his office I knew all of the pros & cons of the surgery and is learning all I can about it, especially post-op info from healing to having babies.

VERY BUSINESS LIKE BUT WAS VERY EXACT ON WHAT HE FELT I WOULD NEED TO PREPARE FOR
THE SURGERY (SLEEP STUDY AND A HEART TEST)
WAS VERY QUICK TO SAY THAT I WOULD NEED A
TUMMY TUCK ONCE I COMPLETED THE WEIGHT LOSS.
HIS OFFICE WAS VERY HELPFUL AND EFFICIENT IN SETTING UP THE SURGERY AND GIVING ME ANSWERS
TO SOME QUESTIONS THAT I HAD.
DR. SUGARMAN EXPECTS ME TO GIVE IT MY ALL
AND TO JUST USE THE SURGERY AS A TOOL TO
ASSIST ME.

I first heard about Dr. Sugarman 3 years ago and heard he was the best. I saw a film and he explained the procedure from beginning to end. Apparently he has a following, because there was a Dr there from France that satin on my consultation. We discussed that being Afro-American, our lifestyle and eating habits differ from other races and differant things cause obesity. A word I have come to hate. The good things about me are that I have no medical problems to be concerned about( ie. sugar diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure. I do not drink or smoke. I have sleep Apnea which is common in obese people. That still has to be addressed. They say I may have to do a sleep study. The paperwork that I have received so far has been very detailed of before and after surgury.
I had heard about another Dr, a Dr Hutchens at St. Marys Hospital and how his manner wasnt the best. I feel good about Dr Sugarman. I suppose as time goes on and I get closer to MY DATE, and all my pre-testing is done, things will continue to get clearer.
I need some info about the best kind of exercise to do afterwards to tighten and tone the body.

Dr. Schweitzer, an associate of
Dr. Sugerman's actually performed
the surgery, then he moved on to
Northern Virginia. Love them both.
Great staff.
Like surgeon and his staff, didn't
especially like degree of care at
MCV in Richmond
Just got a letter urging me to make
appointment for two year visit. And
if it is inconvenient to come to
Richmond to at the very least have my
family doctor do bloodwork and send.
There is a Gastric Bypass Club for
support.
You watch a video, talk to nutritionist
read pamphlets, etc.
Great group of physicians, hospital itself
if lacking.

My first impression of this man was that he was very Professional
Over time my impression only got better, I cannot say enough good things about this man and his staff.
He and his staff are very efficient.
The only negaive thing I can say about him is that he five hours away from my home.
He is the best Weight Loss Surgeon in the US maybe the world.
On a scale of 1-10 I would rate him a 12!
He and his staff are both great!

Dr. Sugerman was highly recomended to me by a friend. She had her surgery 8 years ago and she was doing great. So my husband and I both had a visit with him.Very nice, quite person. Showed us a viedo on the surgery, which helped us to understand. My husband had some serious complication with his surygery and DR Sugaerman saved his life. He was not only a good Dr. but his wife Besty and Dr Sugerman also became our friends.
