Dr. Schmidt was a warm and caring surgeon.
He explained everything in detail and I felt comfortable with everything he told me. His nurse was very friendly but the secretarial
staff seemed a little cold and hard to understand. After having worked in the health care field for many years, I saw many surgeons that had bad attitudes towards their patients. This was absolutely not the case with Dr. Schmidt. He put me at ease immediately. I would rate him 10+++ on a scale of 1-10. My surgery is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 27 at Hack.Univ Med Ctr.
I am very scared and would like people to give me their input on the downside of this drastic surgery. I know that we all want to be "skinny" but is it worth "throwing up, dumping and feeling nauseous. Please --people out there-comment on this.
Wish me luck. Karen
I was impressed with Dr. Schmidt. I was comfortable with him and felt at ease. I also had the impression that I was dealing with someone who had alot of experiance, which made me feel I would be in good hands with him.
His office staff was great. The only problem I encountered was talking with someone about the insurance company's auth. But once I got the right person on the phone they explained it to me.
I would definatly recommend Dr. Schmidt. I have not had the surgery yet. It is scheduled for Jan 21, 2002. So i can't comment on the after care yet. However, from meeting him and talking to his patients, he seems to know alot about what he does. I was also impressed with Hackensack University Medical Center. I am not familiar with that area of New Jersey, but was happy with what i saw at my pre-admission visit.
I called for my intial consultation and was told I could come in 1 week later, 11/5/01. I got in so quickly because there was a cancellation. The doctor answered all of our questions. He took his time and was very couteous. The staff was helpful but a little difficult for me to understand them because of their accents.
my dr sees very nice and very itelagent i felt i was in very good hands and he came extremely highly reccamended.
i am finding i still like him although i have heard things about his aftercare that i am not liking.
the staff was great i had no problems they were very accomadating to me although i heard from others that they had problems with miscommunications
no comment
be willing to wait for appointments very long waiting list he is very busy
he really needs to work on after care he only requires a 3 week visit after the 1 week post op i think is should be sooner and definetly more nutrition counciling.
overall i rate him as a top surgeon but needs better aftercare
both are needed especially with this type of surgery it is essential to have a good bed side manner .
When I met Dr. Schmidt, he was late for my appointment. But he took the time to talk to me and didn't rush me out of his office. His staff is very professional, but looks like they could use a larger office. It's a very long waiting period to get a consultation for Dr. Schmidt. The wait time is atleast six months. But he seems to be worth it. He discussed the surgery in detail and recovery time. What to expect one day, one week, one month and one year from now. He gives a detailed account of what to expect in a information packet, so you will be able to refer back to any questions you might think of. He gave me all of the benefits and risks up front. I think he's a pretty great doctor.
He came highly recommended from two other
patients who are very satisfied.
He was kind & sincere. He made me feel more comfortable with making this decision.
I'll let you know more as I go along!
10/25/01 - Well...I'm 3+ days post op and
HOME!!! HOORAY
Hans Schmidt is the most competent surgeon around. He kept his promise of a Lap...
was incredibly patient with questions and concerns...
He's the one you want!
I first called the Dr.s office back in July 10th and got an August 16 consultation date. I met with Dr. Schmidt and was told I would have to wait till October 30th. So I am about 2 weeks away form surgery, all my pre-op testing is done and I am getting ready to take on that life changing experience, my family is supportive. I hope all goes well and I will be posting more after my surgery.
Dr. Schmidt seems to be a confident surgeon. I am going to attend the first support group meeting tonight. I would love to talk to some of his patients that already have had surgery. I am a bit frightened, not acutally about the surgery, but about how I am going to feel afterwards. His office staff if very nice, but seem to be overwhelmed with the number of patients on a daily basis. It is a small office and a small staff.
He addressed all the risks of surgery in detail. That was the scary part. I think he is a good surgeon, but I need to find out more. I think surgical competence, of course is the most important because your life and health depends upon it. I would hope that he also has a great bedside manner which I am sure is needed after surgery.
