My 1st. impression of Dr. Dakin was Wow! he looks so young. My 1st was in 2004 I was debating whether or not surgery was for me. Dr. Dakin answered all my questions and even the questions that I didn't even think of. I remember being shocked when I answered the phone at my job and it was him, I couldn't believe that this doctor that is so busy could have the time to call me to inform me that my insurance declined me. I was very impressed. His staff are excellent and very willing to help and answer questions. It took me 2 years to make my decision but in those two years I was not forgotten on occassoin I would get a call to see how I was doing and that means alot. My surgery thank God was excellent I had minor complications nothing crazy and through all I am so happy that I was surrounded by excellent and competent staff. The facility (NY hospital) was very clean and I had a beautiful view.
I had my first consultation with Dr. Dakin on Jan 4th, 2006. He was explained everthing to me and talked to me, asked me if I had any questions, let me tell him about the appointments I had already set up to do most of the testing I needed. I liked his staff, all of them were helpful. I can't say that there is anything that I didn't like about him or his staff. He seemed to be a very warm caring man, not like most surgeons I've met. He took the time to make sure that I understood that there are risk with every surgery including the one I'm having and what they are. There wasn't alot of talk about after care, except that I would be in the hospital for 2 to 3 days and then follow the diet that was set for me. As with most doctors offices, I can't say there isn't a little wait.
I met with Dr. Dakin on October 6th, 2005. He is a very nice and informative man. His office staff is friendly and helpful they answered a lot of my questions before I came into the office for my first visit. I knew going into his office which surgery I wanted, Adjustable Lap Band, so we discussed why I made this choice and the risks and benefits involved. Dr. Dakin gave me a chance to express my feelings; I felt at ease the whole time. Aftercare, diet, and exercise is very important with the Lap Band surgery. There are some risks of slippage but if the diet is followed it is less likely.
Overall, I think Dr. Dakin and his staff have been extremely helpful in providing me the information and people to make a life altering decision. I look forward to getting my date!
His office staff was not only polite, but friendly and kind. Dr. Dakin is very soft spoken and while I was trying to get insurance approval, he called them himself and would call me with updates. My phone calls to him were always returned promptly. He's very concerned that his patients know everything about the surgery and the lifstyle changes that will have to occur afterwards.
My surgery is scheduled for August 12th and I have every confidence in Dr. Dakin.
My first impression of Dr. Dakin was great. He was funny from the beginning and made me feel comfortable. His office staff was the best I have seen yet. Dr. Dakin's practice at NY Hospital Cornell has monthly meetings for patients which I hope to attend. He spoke about all the risks of lap RNY but was very confident about his skills. I would rate Dr. Dakin a 10.
