He wanted to make sure you understood all that your were about to do. Over time I felt like he might not be telling me everything. I got an infection in the incision area and for 4 months I had to go and let him open it up and he would say it would get better but it did'nt. I finally had to have another surgery to clean it all up. Some of his staff seems uncaring, like they have a boring job.I did'nt like him opening me up every other week. It hurt and the mental part of it took its toll on me. He did call me at home several times to check on me and I do believe he cares for his patients. My after care was a little different cause I could'nt exercise for a while do to the incision being open.Over all he is a very likable person and a good doctor. He worked with me on the last surgery---even delaying his Christmas trip to his sisters house in Houston to do my second surgery and the followup the next day.I still refer people to him. The infection was not his fault---you can get a infection from any surgery.
I have the unique situation of my wife having the surgery before me, so I have had an opportunity to work with Dr Ihde a little more than the average patient at my current status. He has always been very pleasant and positive, and makes sure we are thoroughly informed of any and all possibilites. I am very happy with our decision to be involved with Dr Ihde and BTC and look forward to the future with them.
My first impression was great. I assumed before I met him he would be arrogant and possibly rude or offensive. I really did not know what to expect. In the past, I did not have good experiences discussing obesity with other doctors (PCP,OB-Gyn,etc). He did not lecture me as I expected. He simply went over the procedure and asked a lot of questions about my behavior, etc. After he learned a little about me, he suggested I might be a good candidate for WLS Surgery. The office staff were nice and made me feel comfortable. Dr. Ihde emphasized that after surgery, to prevent blood clots, that they will have me up and walking 4 hrs after surgery and every couple of hours after that, even through the night. I know he knows best and after only one meeting with him, I feel very comfortable already. I am looking forward to getting all of my pre-op testing done and getting an approval for surgery.
Dr. Idhe was very informational. Impression has not changed. (1.5 weeks post op) Office staff was very helpful. No weak points yet. Lots of emphasize on aftercare. Yes there is a structured aftercard program. Yes he went over the risks of surgury. High rating at this point. Surgical competence was great. He came in every day to check on me, very nice.
I was very impressed with the Bariatric Treatment Center in Wylie, TX. The staff was very friendly & the surgeon was very attentive to my thoughts and concerns before the surgery. The only disappointment I had was that they are so far away from Houston. It was very hard to get home after the surgery and coming back up two weeks later while having to sit in a car for 3 1/2 hrs.
Overall, I would recommend the facility to anyone who was seriously considering this procedure.
I first met with the bariatric team in Wylie Tx on March 14. Very impressed with the staff and how well knowledged they were. Dr. Glen Ihde was very kind and personable. He was very thorough on telling me about the procedure and how it was going to be an all out effort on everyone involved. He has a long background in the medical field which included trauma surgery, which with me being a nurse, made me feel more at ease with him. I would recommend this facility to anyone thinking of having this procedure. Will follow with more when I receive a surgery date.
6/28/01- Wow cant believe its been two weeks today, since I had the surgery. Everything went excellent. No problems at all. Dr. Ihde and the Hospital were incredible. Could not say enough nice things about my experience. Still have 4 more weeks of healing, but everyday is a better day.
6/13/01 - Tomorrow is the big day. I am very excited and nervous. I am ready to start my new life. I will see everyone on the other side.
6/5/01 - Went for my Pre-Op Testing testing. Wow, that took longer then I thought. But they were very thorough. I am set for next Thursday, June 14th. I am a bit nervous, but excited for my new life to start. See you guys on the other side.
(5/23/01) My insurance approved me today. Just one more step closer. Don't anyone ever give up.-------
(4/25/01)Met w/ Dr. Ihde and staff on April 25th. My first impression, how nice, personable and professional Dr. Ihde and his staff are. We met for almost 2hrs w/ no questions unanswered. He stressed the severity of the surgery and the risks as well as the need for behavior modification/group therapy afterwords. I had several questions regarding the different types of surgery and why RNY over others. He was very knowledgeable of all procedures and made me feel at ease w/ the RNY decision. Since the recovery time was 3 to 6 weeks, it was nice to know he will allow me to participate in my recovery time.
My impression of Dr Idhe was very personal, he made me fell comfortable and confident that he knew what he was doing. He was very straightforward regarding the risks of this surgery that every 1 and 700 people die due to complications from this surgery.
I am a casual smoker and he made it clear I needed to qiut before he would even consider me which I committed to.
The staff was very friendly and comforting.
Dr. Idhe made it clear 3-6 weeks after surgery to re-coop and that aftercare was vital.
It is my opinion that bedside manner is vital for both the patient and depicts faith in the physician. However competence is a major factor because you are trusting them with your health and life.
