When I first met my surgeon I didn't know what to think. He came off as being kinda harsh and blunt. By the end of my visit I was able to appreciate his honesty.
Dr. Belzberg is my hero. He has great bedside manners and seems to be genuine about he care for you.
Prior to meeting Dr. Belzberg (of Kaiser So Cal) I had made up my mind that I wasn't going to get my VSG. Much to my surprise, he was familiar and has performed the RnY, VSG, DS & LapBand! So after that everything was wonderful. Dr. Belzberg explained all the pros and cons of each surgery from his opinion. He is very matter of fact. I enjoyed my time and look forward to my surgery 11/26/07.
I was and still am impressed by my surgeon. He was pleasant and made me feel very comfortable from the beginning. rn
Dr. B was very thorough. I brought a list of about 80 questions I had gathered from friends and the internet. He went through everyone and answered, going into detail when I asked. His office staff is good, especially Stacey. It is Kaiser though, and being an HMO its a bit of a pain in the butt. At my 3 month check up he was planning on leaving California. I found out at 6 months that he didnt. I will be going back to him to find out what kind of tests I need at this point. My PCP is a dweeb, and no one has done any follow up on me. Again, Kaiser. Kaiser provides a monthly support group, but it doesnt have a great feeling to it. They lost their Bariatric coordinator and the program seems lost and underfunded. Dr. B stated the risks honestly and frankly. His aftercare program was nonexistant. Such a small bariatric staff cant handle what the needs of the patients are, and its a shame. Surgical competence was great, bedside manner fine too. I would definitely go to him again, and will suggest some ways to make aftercare better. Its not all in his control though. As I said. Kaiser.
I IMMEDIATELY FELL IN LOVE WITH DR. BELZBERG. HE HAD A VERY CALM SPIRIT, AND ONE OF COMPASSION. DURING MY HOSPITAL STAY, HIS BEDSIDE MANNER WAS BEYOND COMPARE. HE WOULD GET DOWN TO EYE LEVEL WITH ME, TOUCHED ME, AND MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS HIS NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.
HIS OFFICE STAFF WAS NICE. IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP APPOINTMENTS WITH HIM, AS THE OFFICE WAS ALWAYS CANCELLING MY APPTS. AFTER MY SURGERY, I WAS PLACED ON SLIMFAST SUPPLEMENTS, WHICH MADE ME DUMP. POSTOPERATIVELY, AFTER LEAVING SEVERAL MESSAGES FOR HIM AT HIS OFFICE, I GOT NO RESPONSES. I FELT ALONE, AND THAT MY FEELINGS WERE UNVALIDATED. OVERALL, HE IS A GREAT DOCTOR, AND I WOULD ENCOURAGE ANYONE SUFFERING FROM OBESITY, TO CONSIDER GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY, AND DR. BELZBERG.
Dr. Belzberg was the most awesome surgeon, I couldn't have asked for anyone better. He made sure that through all the complications I had that I was okay and follows up with me regularly. Dr. Belzbergs nurses are also wonderful, helpful, and very friendly and understanding.

I just can't even stress how amazing Dr. Belzberg is, I just had an appt. with him today and he spent over a half an hour in the room with me. Letting me ask questions, looking at my wound, and just making sure I was well taken care of!
