Dr. Belzberg may strike you as an odd bird at first, but you will soon realize he is a highly competent and dedicated doctor. He has over 30 years of surgical experience and knows the digestive system backward and forward. He loves surgical challenges and is clearly the go to guy at Kaiser So-Cal. He fixes other doctors' mistakes and does the most complex surgeries that other doctor's can't handle. He may not come across as the warmest guy in the book (until you get to know him), but just know you are in good hands.

Dr. Belzberg is a very skilled surgeon who appreciates intelligent, self-directed patients. I liked his straightforward manner, sense of humor and sensitivity to my needs. I tend to be pretty independent and he was able to easily adapt to that for me. He knows what he is talking about and I just love his matter of fact approach.

Gary Belzberg is an amazing surgeon who pays attention to detail and has a lot of skill. I was very happy with my surgery & his attention to me while I was recovering in the hospital.

I loved Dr. Belzberg! I had him first for my thyroidectomy a few years before I even considered VSG. He was patient, informative, matter of fact (which I loved) and always asked if I had questions. He even rounded on me late night after a conference and early the next morning. His calm demeanor was very reassuring.

I have enjoyed Dr. Belzberg as my surgeon. I feel that he is both interested in my goals and wants to see me succeed. After the surgery he came by every day, and I appreciated that. He listened to my concerns, and I feel comfortable with him. I had the surgery on 11/4/10 and I feel suprisingingly good. I don't know what I expected, but after only 4 days i feel great.

My surgeon was awesome!!!! First impression was a little odd, but everytime I saw him after that, he was great. Wonderful bedside manner with a sense of humor...Got a handwritten note from him to my husband, that he has to baby me for another month...Love it:) His staff was great at Kaiser..made me feel very comfortable..He is very strict about the aftercare, I got a bit of a scolding...and decided I better listen more closely!!!!

First impression: He's highly intelligent and competent, a straight shooter who doesn't beat around the bush. This is a mixed blessing. He's not going to sugar coat what he thinks. He'll be supportive of your choices, but expect to have to explain & justify them, especially if your surgery isn't the one he would have chosen. If you're the sensitive type who has a thin skin, his manner of communicating may difficult for you. If you like your information straightforward and would rather know what he's thinking... that's exactly what you'll get.

His medical assistant was very sweet, nice, and friendly.

I look forward to having him take care of me.

i felt he was up front and honest i wanted to believe him and so i went with the rny instead of a sleeve or a band i bled out after surgery i still dont know why and my diabetes is back so i am back on medication i was told at the hospital it was gone and not to take any meds... well it tested through june and the blood sugar stayed at 80 so i stopped testing and i just got a hgba1c of 11.2 more than before surgery and so i am on lantus and actos to control it well while i thought i was free i hope i didn't have any non reversible damage from being misled i have my 4 month follow up 9-11-09 so i will wait until then to make up my mind of whether or not the doctor led me astray or what the surgeon was very good with me in the hospital and attentive he was caring and concerned about me he did come to see me everyday and i think the hospital was good as far as the facility and i did feel safe with the staff too i stayed a week and went home for a day then went to another hospital for a few days that wasn't as nice a stay overall i would have to rate my surgeon as good i just may have regrets on my choice of surgery based on what he recommended

I had a lap band and was asking to take the liquid out for a while. The first question he said was...But did you consider removing the LapBand and a little later have you considered the VSG?! Let say i was not ready to hear that so my first impression was a little rough but at the same time brutally honest which is something I like :)rnrnAnyway, I saw him again before the lap band removal surgery and had gathered a whole list of questions, he was super patient and nice, we even laugh a couple of time.rnrnThe day of surgery, he totally light up ! and he was amazing ! You can clearly says he loves doing surgery. rnrnYou can check the first part (lap band removal) story on my profile.
