Dr. Borao and his team were helpful from the start. I could not have had a better experience. I had the gastric sleeve surgery on April 9, 2012. I weighed in at 375 lbs. 10 months later, I am 267 lbs, almost completely off medication for HBP and Diabetes, and feel better than I have felt in a very long time. My experience was great. Dr Borao and the nurses treated me with respect, made sure I understood what I was doing and coached me about what to expect after the surgery. After the surgery, Dr. Borao met with my family and explained everything. They, too, were pleased with his bedside manner and he made them feel at ease. I am so happy I had this surgery, and I couldn't have asked for a better team to help me along the journey.
I would like to write a letter of recommendation and thank you to Dr. Borao and talented team. They made weight loss surgery understandable with the risks, rewards and complications. Today is 1 week after my Gastric Sleeve surgery and I feel back to 100%. I feel better and look better than I did before my surgery. I have about 75 lbs to lose and lost 18 in my first week.
The office and associates were very helpful. Samar Habiby, the dietician made it clear how to succeed on an new life plan. She is always available for questions and more information. Debra LaRusso explained the mechanics, options and always gets an answer to your question. The special quality they all have is a genuine concern about my wellbeing and success, rather than just doing their job. That personal connection has exceeded my expectations and reassured me that Dr. Borao was the right choice at the right time.
Monmouth Medical Center is great center to have your procedure. The nurses, medical students, residents and doctors pay close attention and are experienced in what to look for and how to treat me after surgery. I had some discomfort my first night but they knew what to do to get me out in just 2 days.
I would highly recommend the surgery, Dr. Borao, and Monmouth Medical Center to anyone whose life is starting to struggle because of weight. I will now be able to get down and play with my kids and have a whole new view and better quality of life.
Thank you, thank you and thank you

I had Sleeve Surgery on June 20,2011 and can't believe it's been a year already. I have lost approx. 100 lbs. in that year. What can I tell you about my Surgeon, As far as I'm concerned he's the best. He's got the best bedside manner of any Dr. I've met in a long time, I've had several Surgeons over the years but Dr. Borao is a standout. He not only talks to you, but he listen's to you. As far as his surgical skills go, Top notch, I was out of bed and off pain meds. in two day's, walking the isles with no pain, I wonder how he does that. Tha Bariatric group at Monmouth follow suit, alway's on top of everything in the office and at the Monthly Bariatric group meetings. As far as I'm concerned, and other's I've talked to, They all are the Best of the Best. In addition, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Mon. Meds. Anesthesiology group, remember they take you to nana land and bring you home after the Surgeon fixs your broken parts. To me, this is the scariest part of the whole procedure. I have had the pleasure of having Dr. Marcella Gatti watch over me during my last two operations. She is also truly a quiet professional and makes you feel, and correctly so,that you are in the best of hands.
When I was searching for a doctor to do my Lap-Band Surgery, I was 330 pounds and I visited 2 hospital seminars which was an auditorium full of Fat people looking for away to finally get the weight off. Like the rest of the people in those seminars, I was nervous, hoping that I was making the right decisions and listening carefully to the doctors explaining the procedure and expressing why we should use them. It was horrible; we really could not ask any questions because there were too many people in the room. They were explaining all the possible complications telling us about the effects on blood pressure and diabetes. And then they told us what their mortality rate was. I ran out of that seminar saying this is not for me. The Doctors were talking to us like they were going to install a new transmission in an old car. It was cold and impersonal.
Then as a last resort, someone recommended Dr. Frank Borao. I went to their office where there were about 6 or 8 people. They started to tell us what to expect and what the process would be in order to get the surgery. They were very compassionate and I feel they truly understood how hard it was for us to face what we were going through. Then Dr. Borao told us his mortality rate, it was zero! A big sigh or relieve came over me and I began the process and had my lap-band surgery in April of 2004. I am currently 247 pounds; I didn’t loose as much weight as I hope to. But that is my own fault. It has been seven years now and I still very happy with my entire experience. Whenever I need to call Dr. Borao’s office I know that I will be taken great care of and all my questions and concerns would be answered. I have personally sent people to Dr. Borao and they all have had similar or better results.
I would like to wish anyone reading this review the best of luck and hope that your experience will be as good as mine, and if you choose Dr. Borao I am confident that it will be!!!

I had my wls in Sept of '05. I fould Dr. Borao to be extremely intelligent, very professional & a person who inspires confidence. My surgery went very well with little to no pain & a quick recuperation. I believe that this was completely due to the skill & knowledge of my Dr. Now after 2 years I am again a patient of Dr. Borao's . After going to my local hospital with severe abdominal pains & vomiting, they could not find anything wrong with me. They then decided to send me back to MMC & put me in Dr. Borao's care. Luckily for me, he came to my rescue. After looking at all my test results, he knew immeditatlely what was wrong & told me how he was going to fix it. This Dr. inspires trust & confidence & it is well deserved. Without him to care I would not be here today. Thank you Dr. Borao,
At first I thought Dr. Borao was a hot shot younger surgeon, but I knew that he was good at what he did so I felt comfortable trusting him. Dr. Borao is a laproscopic surgeon who does WLS, not a WLSurgeon who happens to do the laproscopically. His offce staff couldn't get any better if they tried, which they do. Debbie is the program director (it is a little discouraging at first because she is tiny, but you will quickly learn that she really does understand what you are going through and she will give you all the support in the world). Laura is the office manager (she will fight the insurance companies tooth and nail for your case, and is REALLY good at what she does, she keeps the stress off you, I got denied for the wrong surgery, then approved for the wrong surgery, all within 2 weeks of my surgery date, and Laura took care of EVERYTHING). Dr. Goldberg is the psychologist in the practice (you don't HAVE to use him, but I did, he is great at getting into your head and not making you feel like less of a person because you have this disease). Sam is the nutritionist for the practice (again, you don't HAVE to use her, but I would reccomend it, she is REALLY great at giving new suggestions and helping you find food if you can't, she also understands that we all need a little bit of our favorites once in a while and will give you ways to work them into a healthy eating plan). The practice is so well rounded and has a monthly FREE support group at the hospital, it really is a great way to get more info and learn more abou the practice, Debbie, Dr. Goldberg, and Sam are usually there and always answer any questions that they can anwer. Dr. Borao only has 1 day a week that he sees bariatric patients, so if you make an appointment, plan on waiting. However, he is so good I would have no problem waiting 8 hours if I had to (the wait is NEVER that long, but I wouldn't mind if it was). I had a weird complication (that Dr. Borao couldn't have predicted if he tried), and he gave me his undivided attention (including a 6 hour surgery at 8pm on a Saturday night), after the second surgery he made sure I called him, and saw him AT LEAST once a week for almost 2 full months, I have NEVER had anyone take such good care of me. He made time and told his staff that he didn't care what else was going on, they had to fit me in the schedule. He really does take care of his patients. I know a patient of his who had the surgery about 4 years ago now and she saw him on the street and he remembered every detail of her surgery, it really is amazing how great of a surgeon he is, and how great his bedside manner is. If I had this to do all over again, I would go with Dr. Borao every single time. He is AMAZING.
