Fernando Otero Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr Otero is pretty friendly, for a surgeon. My first impression of him was that he just wants to get down to business no bull. He's totally cool w/you asking a million questions even if some are kind os stupid. The only thing I really have had any problem w/is he doesn't really go into aftercare w/you. Don't get me wrong he gives you all required info & goes over the basics but most of the info he gives is written. For me personally I would have done better verbal as well. All in all he's great surgeon & pretty open to discuss concerns w/you.

My first impression of Dr Otero, is that he really does want me to succeed and knows what he is doing. Over time, my impression grew stronger and I liked him more. His office staff is amazing. Anne Timberlake who is in charge of the program at John Muir is amazing, simply the best. The whole program is very thorough and complete which made me feel comfortable.
I would definitely rate him as a top laprascopic surgeon. He does a lot of these each year. He was one of the founding laprascopic surgeons in California. He is really an amazing Dr!

My 1st impression of Dr. Otero was his sense of humor and how friendly he was. He knew I was nervous and did his best to put me at ease. His office staff are WONDERFUL, CARING people who are more then eager to help in any way they can.

My last pre-op appt with Dr. Otero was great he answered all of my last minute questions:) rnrnI guess he seen how scared I am about having the surgery, and he just made me feel like everything was going to be ok. When Dr. Otero and I was done talking he gave me a big hug and said the next time I'll see u will be in Surgery.rnrnDr. Otero staff is Great!!!!!! Ann Timerlake the head nurse is so nice I can e-mail her questions about anything and she always response back quickly.rnrnAnn also handled all of my disabilty paperwork. I love his staff they are all so nice.

Dr. Otero is fantastic! He is very professional but more important he is warm and friendly. His staff is great! Anne Timberlake always responds very quickly to my questions. There is a support group that meets monthly. Dr. Otero addressed any and all questions I had regarding the surgery. He is my angel....he has given me a tool that is changing my life daily. I have only wonderful things to say about Dr. Otero.

Dr. Otero, Has been my life saver. He is a great doctor, he is sensitive, compassionate, very smart and handsome too. Dr. Otero actully saved my life. I had some dificulties and he rushed me back into surgery and saved my life... The after care program at John Muir Medical Center is the best. Anne Timberlake Knows her stuff, She and all her staff are wonderful. I am very grateful for everybody. I thank God for everyone...

My surgeon is actually Dr. Chin in Concord, CA, but he's new and wasn't listed. Dr. Otero is his partner.rnrnHe's fairly new at the John Muir Weight Loss Center in Concord, CA. I met with him today, and was very impressed with him. He was extremely understanding, answered all of my questions very patiently, and was very positive about it all. Very soft spoken. rnrnI really have a great feeling about him and am looking forward to my new journey!!

I had never been in the hospital or had any major health problems, other than being overweight. I have a little arthritis and a weird thing called Charcot joint, but otherwise. I really didn't know what to expect.rnDr. Otero is very professional and reviewed everything with me. I felt comfortable with him as a doctor right away.rnI was further encouraged by a comment made by the doctor who did my endoscopy who mentioned that he dealt with post-op problems from weight loss surgeries from various, prestigious hospitals and had never had one of Dr. Otero's (or the other doctor that works with Dr. Otero) patients return with a problem. That was a HUGE vote of confidence.rnThe center in Concord has excellent pre-op training and resources. I've attended one suppot group so far and plan to attend as many as possible in the future. Lots of help.rnI think Dr. Otero is great and I highly recommend him and the weight loss center at John Muir, Concord!rnI don't know how to respond to questions regarding bedside manner, etc. I would think it depends on both parties. I wasn't looking for a best friend when I was selecting a surgeon. I wanted somebody with whom I felt comfortable, who would answer my questions and was highly competent at his/her job. Dr. Otero met every expectation for me, with a little humor now and then...can't beat that.

He's just the best docotr ever!! His staff was wonderful. Everything about my surgery and aftercare was the best.

When I first met Dr. Otero I thought he had a very heart wrming smile. He very carefully went over all the risks associated with WLS surgery and encoraged questions. I liked how when I asked a few questions he looked right at me and it instantly gave me a feeling that he is genuine and wants his patients fully educated in the WLS journey. rnrnDr. Otero was very straight with me about my surgery and he felt that the sleeve was my best option at this time. It was also the procedure that I was hoping for after hearing about all of the possibilities. Dr. Otero made me feel like I was important to him and that he wants me to have great success. This is why I selected John Muir Medical Center and Dr. Otero, for that personal touch. rnrnSeeing Dr. Otero before surgery definitely calmed me down and while I don't remember seeing him after surgery, I was told that he did talk with me. But the next day when he came to see me and agreed to release me he was so fantastic. I liked the fact that Dr. Otero smiles, his entire delivery method makes me feel calm, confident and positive. I can tell you that his surgical skills are great - I only needed pain meds once when I was home......nothing after that. rnrnI saw Dr. Otero for my first 2 week post-op appointment and when I saw him, he greeted me with a great big hug and made me feel so wonderful. He was pleased with my weight loss and he is such a terrific cheerleader. I would totally recommend him to anyone that is thinking about having WLS surgery. Dr. Otero along with his great team at JMuir of Anne Timberlake and Dolora make me feel special and give me the added confidence to make my new tool work. Anne has been there for me each and every step and is so responsive and supportive. They are all OUTSTANDING!!!
