My first impression of Dr. Gonzales was that he was a very kind and caring person. I waited a long time to meet with him. He answered all of my questions and made me feel very comfortable. He did not hide anything relating to WLS, the good or the bad. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Gonzales seems very nice he tells it like it is he does not sugar coat anything. his office staff is the BEST!!! They are very kind, helpful just great i cannot give them enough praise. At the point i would recommend Dr.Gonzales to anyone. He has a great bedside manner, and the best surgical competence.

Dr. G. is very personable. He explains in laymans terms and takes time to carry on a dialogue as opposed to a one way conversation. All the staff have been very helpful and cortious. There is nothing at this time that I can say I disliked. He is upfront and sticks to the pre surgery chacklist. He highly encourages post op visits, psych, support groups, etc. There does seem to be a structured aftercare program and he emphasizes how critical it is to actively participate. He went over the risks in the pre consult seminar, gave out detailed handouts, reiterated the possibility for complications in the psych eval and at the consult appointment. I would rate him at the highest level for surgeons. I have done my research and have yet to have anyone say a negative thing regarding his skill, bedside manner and frankness. Both are equally important to me.

On August 30th my husband (Joe) and I went to Winston Salem N.C.for a seminar with Dr. Gonzales and his office staff. There were more people in the room than usual and there were not enough seats for everyone. Joe went back to the car to make room for people who were thinking about surgery. This upset me because he is the only support system I have. When the seminar started I looked back and he was sitting on the floor. I sure did feel alot better because I wanted him to know the benefits and risks also. I am a registered nurse so I understand the pro's and con's of my decision to have surgery and also wanted Joe to know. Being a nurse I know how important patient teaching is. Dr. Gonzales and his office staff were very nice and discussed every aspect of surgery. I loved the fact that I don't have to have a foley catheter or NG tube. Dr. Gonzales introduce some humor in his teaching which made me feel more at ease. He also answered everyones question and there were many. He discussed pre-op, post-op and follow up care. He emphasized that he expected to see his patients at all their scheduled appointments and every year for the rest of their life or do not ask him to do their surgery. This reassured me that once I have surgery I won't be forgotten about and he will always be there to work with me. We were give a booklet that addresses all aspects of surgery. I thank GOD I found Dr. Gonzales and I feel he is very qualified. Still very nervous about having surgery but that is normal..even for a nurse.

Dr. gonzales was very informative without pressure or unrealistic promises. He was careful to point out possible side effects and the bumpy road ahead after the surgery. I recently saw Dr. G for my one year visit although it was 6 months late. I am just as impressed as ever with his attitude. I have lost 80pounds and would have lost more I am sure but something always interferes with my plans for exercise. Never the less I love being able to dress again and not feel so bad in public.I am honest to God the poster child for WLS. I wish everyone could have it. I beg my friends to do it.

Dr. Gonzales was great. When I met with him I was a little nervous. After about 2 minutes of talking to him, I felt totally at ease. His office staff was very helpful. God knows, I'm not a very patient person so they have gotten to know me by name. They have a very structured aftercare program with meetings and psychological help. The risks of surgery were clearly defined. Overall he is a great Surgeon!! I'll post more after my surgery.

I really respect Dr. Gonzales after my first consult with him. He spent 2 hours with me alone! He was patient and addressed all of my questions and concerns. He made sure that I was aware of every risk associated with each of the 3 surgeries he performs. He also made sure that I understood why he recommends BPD/DS for me and what the pros & cons were for each surgery.

He seems to have a heart for helping us morbidly obese people. He did not talk down to me at all. He did not make me feel ashamed of my obesity.

He has an online support group and a monthly meeting for all preop and postop patients. He attends his meetings along with Dr. Jeff Smith the psychologist who has joined his staff to help Dr G with the mental & emotional side of WLS.

I am very impressed with the program Dr. G has put together, the efficiency in the handling of the insurance paperwork and his experience with over 200 DS surgeries performed.

he was very understanding, helpful, and knowledgable about wls.his staff is very helpful and they do not treat you like you have a disease that is catching. he is a wonderful caring doctor. i can not say there was anything i did not like about him. he tells you at the first visit that you will have a on going relationship with himm they want you to keep in contact with them even if you moved. he has alot of info about after care and they have their own web site from his patients and also they have a support group that meets once a month. as would any surgeon they tell you of risks you have to put your question out there to youself most people have wls to save their lives. on a scale of 1 to 10 he is an 11.both mean alot to me because i have had a bad expierence wit both.
