I went to a very informative seminar at Centennial Medical Center in October, 2001. My insurance company (United Healthcare - Saturn) approved the procedure within a week. I had to wait three months for my initial consult with Dr Olsen. It seemed like a long time - but eventually the day of my appointment arrived.
The first time I met with Dr. Olsen he explained every aspect of the procedures in detail to make sure I understood the surgery and associated risks. He even drew me pictures of the procedure and wrote down the risks to make sure I understood what I was getting myself into.
Dr. Olsen, his staff and Centennial Medical Center are excellent. Dr. Olsen performed my surgery (laparoscopic gastric bypass) on March 18, 2002. The staff at the hospital took very good care of me. My biggest complaint while I was in the hospital and during the first few weeks after I came home was a backache. A couple of weeks after the surgery, my family doctor diagnosed me with a bladder infection - once treated, the backache went away.
Dr. Olsen continues to check my progress through follow-up visits. He talks to me about my diet and exercise and stresses the importance of drinking enough water and going to the support groups. He is really concerned about my health and weight loss progress and he wants to make sure I get all the benefit I can from the surgery.
I'm thankful every day because I was able to have the surgery and because Dr. Olsen was my surgeon. I don't think I could have been in better hands.
I met Dr Olsen on June 6 2002...My first impression was a confident extermely knowledgable health care provider that impressed me with his manners and his credentials. I mean this man was in no hurry whatsoever ! I was in shock!!! He took time to answer all my questions after explaining everything in detail to me. No question was too trivial for him to answer.
This man did not talk over your head like so many do , he made it very easy to understand the proceeduer and all the complications that can come from it. In other words he gave me " The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly"!!
That made me even more impressed with him.
I checked his credentials from online as well as I could, then made numerous calls, and was totally confident I found the right man. I am even more confident after our visit last week, the final dance before the GRAND BALL !
I would recommend this PROFESSIONAL to anyone interested in the best care they can acquire..and you know I can find nothing that I was not comfortable with in this DR. .
This is just my opinion, but thats the one that counts this time..
Dr. Olsen was the doctor who did the semminar I attended. During the semminar I found him to be informative but very dry and unpersonal. When I had my consult he again went over everything completely and made sure this was the correct decision for me. He was very polite and much more personable, he even joked at times with me. His office staff was very polite as well, always helpful and willing to answer all and any questions I had. The aftercare is very organized. They give a complete notebook with diet restrictions and guidelines to follow throughout the first year. They also provide cards and phone numbers for everyone possible to answer any questions that may arise outside of the regular and frequent follow up visits.
I haven't had surgery yet, but I met him at their information seminar, he seems like a very skilled and kind person.
I am very impressed with the fact that I faxed my paperwork to Dr. Olsen's office and for some reason only the first page went through. I was called right away and informed so that I could refax them. AND the very next day I was informed that my approval letter had been mailed to the insurance company. I can't wait to get the call that I am approved.
My first impression of Dr. Olsen was a "steril" one. He was nice and informative, but that was it........
After my first consultation with him, he seemed to be so very knowledgeable about the surgery and wanted to make sure that I was aware of exactly what I was choosing.
His office staff is wonderful. They greet you by your first name as soon as you open the door and they called and checked on my post-op.
Dr. Olsen is a surgeon....... basically, there may be timess when you feel he doesn't hear you, but he can almost tell how you are doing by your facial expression or body language. He is a wonderful and smart man and I would trust him again with my life!
He was very forthcoming about the risks, which I already had knowledge of.
I wouldn't change to any other surgeon.
Surgical competence is the highest of importance on my list. Your family and friends should be there to pamper and help meet your emotional needs.
This was my personal experience and I know that everyone else has different experiences.
I have met with Dr. Olsen twice now. He is a very kind man. I really respect and trust him because he took the time to spend with me in making sure that I had all of the knowledge necessary to make my decision. While he takes care of business he also has a wonderful bedside manner. He has a wonderful office staff and I feel very comfortable in their care.
Dr Olsen was very good. He sit with me and explained details about the surgery. He asked questions about my lifstyle. He explained the good and bad about the surgery. I was given written information about every thing you could think of in relations to the surgery. After care has also been great. If I have any questions or problems his staff is always willing to help. He suggest support groups for aftercare also. I rate Dr. Olsen overall a 10.
dr olsen seemed to be really concerned about my personal issues and also really takes the time to make you aware of the risks and benefits that go along with this surgery. i have had a good experience with him thus far. It does take a while to get an appt. I have not had surgery yet so I am not really qualified to judge him on bedside care, but I will. The office staff is very helpful(if a bit rushed).
Okay now I've had surgery and I would still say that Dr Olsen seems to really care about his patients and being able to help them improve themselves. He can be a bit serious but that's a good thing right? I would trust him with my life (again)
