Dr Olson was very thorough in his explanations. He was easy to talk to and he encouraged me to ask questions. I have only met with him the one time.

His staff is exceptional. Every person I have come in contact has been very helpful.

I did not find anything I did not like about Dr. Olsen.

You should know that Dr. Olsen expects you
to do your part in making the surgery work.
They stress very much the need for support and returning for all scheduled appointments. It is a lifetime relationship you are starting with your surgeon. The center gives you all available information about your aftercare and the support available for you.

At the seminar you are given written information about the risks and Dr. Olsen goes over them again when you meet with him.

For my post op rating he is a 10.

surgical competence is the most important but the bedside manner makes it easier.

Dr. Olsen's first and ongoing impressions have been those of a caring professional. He spent about 45 minutes with me preop to detail the RNY procedure, the benfits and risks. He spent 6 hours with me in the OR working through adhesions so I could have a closed RNY... I would think most other surgeons would have thrown in the towel after 4 hour.

He and his staff have delivered excellent patient care pre, intra and post op.

Dr. Olsen and his staff have a structured aftercare program that includes nutrician therapy.

I would, and have, recommend Dr. Olsen if you are considering bariatric surgery... especially the RNY. He has both surgical competence and a good bedside manner.

My first impression of Dr. Olsen was very positive. I have seen him twice and my impression remains the same. He is very serious about the surgery, the risks and ensuring that I understood that my eating habits will be radically changing. He is not however, rigid or inflexible as many serious people can be. His office staff was always helpful and caring. There was nothing that I did not like about him. Future patients need to be aware of his seriousness and not misperceive this for something else. His emphasis on aftercare is constant and he insists on follow-up which is a great thing. He has a structured aftercare program and he and the dietician are available as needed. He addressed the risks of surgery so much that I had to rethink my decision once or twice. I would rate him a 10. I can't rate his surgical competence yet because my surgery is 2 weeks away.

Dr.Olsen was great! He was very caring, warm, and friendly, as well as informative and helpful all the way through this. I really liked the atmosphere in his office. In fact when I called to set up my consult the person I spoke to on the phone was nearly as excited as I was on hearing that I had been approved! (As it turns out she has had the procedure done as well) Dr.Olsen is adamant about maintaining aftercare. I had heard from an earlier patient that he is not great with bedside manner. Really though I didn't notice it and besides, surgical competence is way more important. I will tell you this, which really impressed me alot...2 days after I went home my chest started feeling funny (and I have an overactive imagination-particularly right now being recently post-op, I think they call it Hypochondria-haha) Anyways, I called Dr.Olsen's office because I was really starting to worry about it (it was 8pm). I left a message on the office message machine and maybe 5 minutes later, he's calling me to see what's wrong and to reassure me that I am not dying-haha. Anyways, he really made me feel safe and grateful that he is my surgeon and that he is there if and when I need him. I feel lucky that my experiences have been good so far.

My first impression of Dr. Olsen was he looked to be very into his work and make sure I understood what I was embarking upon. We had warning that he is very stern and I knew that was something that I needed. He has done nothing but give me important details on every quesiton I asked and never thought any question was stupid. All of his office staff are very nice and helpful except I wasnt impressed with the dietician. I would recommend anyone to see him because of his emphasis on the risks and care after surgery. I drove three hours one way to have him as my doctor. A+++

Very thorough. Takes his time with you to answer all your questions. He went over all the risks and complications possible and asked if there were any questions or concerns following each one. He seems to be interested in each patient individually. He has a great staff. His nurse has had the surgery, which I find to be a big plus. He has a nutritionist in his office to get you on the right diet for a successful weight loss program.

I would highly recomment Dr. Olsen. I called regarding a pain in one of my incisions and we played phone tag until 10pm that night. He did not act put out or impatient and took time to explain what the problem was. (Deep muscle stitch that hadn't dissolved yet)

He is very demanding of his patients, but his compliments are very meaningful as they are sparingly handed out! :)

I am attending a seminar on April 1st and they have to wait for insurance approval before they will schedule my consult. Dr. Olsen has been highly rated by just about everyone on this site who visited with him, so I am looking forward to meeting him.

Dr. Olsen conducted the Seminar I attended. He was extremely informative and listed all affects of the surgery, even the bad. He explained some risk factors. I believe he is an excellent surgeon and will expect his patients to follow his program strictly. I only met one of his staff members and she was able to know how some of us felt, she had the surgery five years ago, and still looks great.

After care was stressed as being extremely important to follow the guidelines that they have set up in a booklet. The aftercare program seems to be very well structured. He emphasized the importance of attending support groups.

When I have my surgery, I want a surgeon with as much surgical competence as possible. Bedside manner helps, but his knowledge and skill is the most important.

Dr. Olsen was wonderful. My first consultation w/him was extremely thorough. He not only verbally explained every tiny detail of what was to come he also sat right next to me and drew pictures and wrote down things of importance. He has a confident approach to this surgery and lets you feel you are in very capable hands. His staff, especially Terry, is great and very friendly and light hearted. He strongly emphasizes aftercare and lets you know exactly what he expects of you. He is very straight forward and upfront of all the risks of this surgery including death. I would rate Dr. Olsen a 10 out of 10.
