During my first experience with Dr. Ewing, I was quite impressed with his impeccable rate of professionalism. He explained each option/procedure in great detail and answered my questions. I found him to have a positive attitude and overall great outlook. I felt extremely comfortable with him from the start. He explained everything in detail, and let me know what to expect and during the explanation he reviewed the risks of the procedures as well. I feel that Dr Ewing is the complete package when it comes to a bariatric surgeon. He is confident, personable, and knowledgeable, possesses great bedside manner and has the best attitude and is very friendly. The day of surgery I had the opportunity to speak with him before and after the procedure. At this time my family met him for the first time and they were extremely pleased and impressed overall. The office staff is just as great. They are friendly, patient, considerate and very empathetic. I have already recommended Dr Ewing to a few people who were interested in surgery. I couldn’t ask for a better Surgeon and Team! From the first office visit going forward, he made me feel comfortable. I didn’t expect to be this satisfied- this stellar service blew me away!!!

I had surgery 8/11/11 (last month). I'm very particular about certain things and I have not ONE complaint about Dr. Ewing or his office. I was so shocked by the attention and service I've gotten and continue to receive from Advanced Lap. I have had people available to me 24/7 practically, since before surgery, at the hospital, and now after surgery. Everything was perfectly explained to me, and Dr. Ewing is very patient about listening to any issue/concern of mine. I don't know about any other surgeons, but I don't think they could be any better than Dr. Ewing! So far I am extremely pleased. :)

I could not be happier with dr.ewing and all the staff @ advanced laparoscopic ass. First class treatment all the way. When you choose a surgeon here you get everybody who is involved in this office. You can just tell the relationship they have with Hackensack Medical center when the doctors or aides are making there rounds checking on patients. Tip my hat to Hackensack Medical Center also as you can tell this match between doctor and hospital are in sync and have plenty of experience working this procedure.

I was very impressed with the Weight Loss Surgery Info Seminar provided by Advanced Laparoscopic Associates (ALA) - and doubly impressed with Dr. Ewing and signed up immediately for the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) with him. Today I am 5-weeks post surgery and can't praise Dr. Ewing and staff enough. One- Dr. Ewing is an excellent surgeon. Most people use 2 rows of stitching for the VSG, Dr. Ewing does 3 plus edge sutures by hand. Also ALA provides a comprehensive post-surgery program. My insurance company's case nurse was very impressed with the post-surgery program they offer and commented to me that i had found a rare offering of bariatric surgery comprehensive care and would note the practice in thier Aetna files - as a center of excellence -being that nutritional counseling, monthly support groups, and post-surgery rehabilitation (fitness) was offered. At the practice's suggestion i enrolled in the obesityhelp.com online support group - and am amazed how little post-surgery counseling is offered by other bariatric centers. I have nearly no questions for the support group because Dr. Ewing's staff have provided me all of the info, tools, and support needed -- they are amazing! And Dr. Ewing is an experienced and stellar surgeon -- not to mention that he is really nice, considerate, compassionate, and patient.

I was all set with another surgeon until I went to the free seminar of Advanced Laparoscotic Associates. I was really impressed with all three doctors but I chose Dr. Ewing. He listened pati8ently to my questions and I felt immediately comfortable with him. Surgery day went smoothly and I am doing great after two weeks. The office staff is wonderful including a meeting with a nurse practioner and a dietician. Also monthly support groups. They offer a lot more than other doctors I've talked with. I highly recommend this group.

Dr. Ewing did my lap-band surgery June 2005. At that time I weighed 221 lbs. The band did not work for me. He did my bypass surgery this March.

He is a wonderful doctor and I would recommend him to anyone.

I just found my paper to be able to log onto this site. I had my surgery 3 years ago. I went to a seminar at Hackensack Hospital and was so very impressed with all 3 of the surgeons, but one stuck out to me. It was Dr. Douglas Ewing. He had such a wonderful friendly demeanor. When the seminar was over and we could go and speak to the surgeons individually, I immediately realized that he was the person I wanted to do my surgery. He is a very compassionate, patient, friendly person. There was no question that I asked that he was not willing to answer. He explained to me the risks and the benefits of both the lap-band and gastric by-pass surgery, but yet told me that it was entirely my decision. I eventually decided on the lap-band and am so happy I did. Dr. Ewing was saw me through my first year and I am sad to say I haven't been back to have it tightened because my insurance changed. I am planning on going back soon.
If you are considering Bariatric surgery, I would highly recommend Dr. Ewing. If you are looking for someone who is completely interested in helping you lose weight, not just for his ego but because he genuinely cares, then Dr. Ewing is your surgeon.
Thank you Dr.Ewing, because of you I am 80lbs thinner and am looking forward to losing another 80 lbs. I will be in to see you soon.
I realize this was my personal experience, and I cannot say everyone will be as satisfied as I am because everyone is looking for something different. I can honestly say that there is nothing negative that I can say about my experience, other then I wish they took more insurances so that I could have continued to get my band tightened.

When I first met Dr. Ewing I was impressed with his soft demeanor and warm smile. He was patient with my many questions and answered each very easily. I also had a hernia that needed repair and we discussed any possible complications. Everyhting was explained very well.rnDr. Ewing explained that I needed to attend the weight loss surgery seminar before I could schedule the surgery. I already registered for the seminar. The seminar didn't inform me of anything I hadn't already researched regarding the actual surgery.rnWhat impressed me was the aftercare program and the lifetime dietician availability. Although I have only met once with Kathy for aftercare information, I am anticipating that the next appointment to meet with the R.D. will meet my expectations as well.rnI must comment on the positive experience of Hackensack Hospital and all the staff I met before and after surgery. As a surgical frequent flyer (several prior health issues), I am a bit of an expert on hospital care for patients. This experience was the best ever! Everyone was courteous and professional. The hospital was clean and modern. My husband and I were pleasantly and consistently surprised by the care.rnMy comparison reference is with my daughter's lap band experience. She had her lap band surgery with a differet surgeon and hospital. It didn't come close to the care I received and the after care program as well. There were very broad and distinct differences. Dr. Ewing's office will take other lap band patients for after care as well.rnDr. Ewing and all of his office staff have excellent patient rapport and bedside manners! I healed quickly and with very little discomfort - most was from the hernia healing not the lap band.rnMy post op visit was a positive experience as well.rnI would highly recommend Dr. Ewing for weight loss or general surgical issues!!rn

I had attended a few seminars for Lap Band surgery and had not felt comfortable with any of the doctors I meet. When I attended Dr. Ewing's, (Lap Band Associates, Paramus, NJ)seminar I knew right away that he was the surgeon for me. He has a very gentle manner and caring way that put me at ease. rnrnWhen it came time for surgery my feelings about him were even more confident. I was nervous and he and the entire staff at the Surgical Center made me feel great! I didn't just arrive at the center and boom into surgery, we talked and laughed. All my fears were addressed and Dr. Ewing patiently answered all my questions and concerns. After surgery he made sure I was comfortable and feeling good. rnrnMy first post-op office visit was exciting for me and Dr. Ewing again listend to me and answered questions giving me as much time as I needed. I appreciate this in a doctor. rnrnI highly recommed Dr. Ewing to anyone contemplating Lap Band Surgery. He and the staff at his office are great.

I liked Dr. Ewing from the beginning %100 percent he had a sarcastic sense of humor - which I appreciated - he performed a wonderful surgery...but I chose to not see him anymore after an EMT called him when I was being rushed to the hospital and he said he didn't know who I was - which upset me...I still give him much credit for taking a 625lb patient - and you know I had my surgery 04/5/07 - and now I'm 268lbs and I'm 21 and now looking forward to plastic surgery. I've lost 357lbs and that is in a huge part in thanks to Mr. Ewing just wish the situation of him telling the EMT's and doctors at the hospital that he did not know who I was never happenned....
