Dr. Fischer is an excellent surgeon, and so is much in demand. He seems to be a kind and caring person as well as a gifted surgeon -- but he also has a very demanding schedule and so, except for the actual surgery, I have had more contact with his physician's assistant, Anne, and his office staff than with him. rnrnI saw him for a consult after completing all the preliminary forms and labs and other things in their WLS packet. He was easy to talk to, and seemed willing to stay as long as I had questions or concerns that he could address. At that time the movie \"Awake\" - having to do with waking up during surgery but being unable to let anyone know you were awake and aware -- was being widely advertised -- and I had a few questions about that possibility!! He listened, explained carefully how they would make sure that didn't happen and how they could tell if it were to happen -- and generally was very patient about my concerns. However, he is not one for chit-chat, and his part of the consult couldn't have been longer than 10 or 15 minutes. Before he arrived and after he left, Anne addressed the necessary sorts of things, like risks of surgery, what would be expected in terms of following the program after surgery, etc. She is very thorough and organized, and they have worked together since he began practicing, so she does that very well.rnrnrn
Dr. Wesley Alexander did my actual surgery but I have switched to Dr. Fisher's practice because his PA (Ann Erisman) is awesome and his whole program is more comprehensive. Dr. Alexander is a skilled surgeon but it close to retiring and the office staff is not as comprehensive as Dr. Fisher's. I believe Dr. Alexander played a part in Dr. Fisher's training. They are both very nice men and very skilled surgeons. Dr. Fisher is located in West Chester right next to the surgery center and I would recommend having procedures done there rather than at Christ Hospital. Post op care at Christ was the pitts.! I could not recommend Dr. Fisher's practice more highly, the program is comprehensive and the aftercare is better: the only thing I wish I would have done more of is research regarding the duodenal switch. It was an alternative I didn't know about and now wish I would have explored.
The first time I met Dr. Fischer I thought he was young. But I immediately liked him. He has a tender voice and a great smile. As time went on, I grew to admire him even more. A wealth of patience. I am sure he gets asked the same questions over and over. And every time he answered my questions, he responded as if it was the first time he had heard them.
The staff was super. Especially Anne and David. Anne hides her angel wings well. She is the kindest and most thoughtful person to have this job. She is very encouraging.
She empasizes the rules of wls. So we should be prepared for the good and bad.
Overall I would and have recommended Dr. Fisher and his staff. They are the best.
Who could ask for anything more, great surgeon, fantastic staff and good hospital experience.
My first inpression of Dr. Fischer was that he was an enthusiastic, caring doctor who was eager to help inprove the quality of my life. He was honest & upfront and willing to answer all of my questions. I also got the impression that he was not just one of these doctors who will cut on just anybody, that he must really see a need for the surgery for him to perform it.
Dr. Fischer has a wonderful bedside manner, truly wanting you to be comfortable during your stay in the hospital. He visited me on numerous occasions while I was in and every time just asking how I was, how my pain was, and was always there bright and early and smiling like he always does.
If you can't tell, I think the world of Dr. Fischer and would recommend him to anyone. (well, only nice people - cause I don't want him to have to deal with idiots!)
My first impression: "Wow, he's young." I jokingly refer to him as Dr. Doogie Howser. He's 36 year old (I think).
My impression now: He's friendly, compassionate and careful. He takes his time to explain things and to answer questions.
The office staff: Anne (PA) is super. She responds quickly to questions and has been at almost every support group meeting. Aaron (RD) responds to questions quickly, too. He's always willing to answer those protein questions and he makes you feel like no question is a silly one.
What did I like least? Nothing. I know that sounds too good to be true, but Dr. Fischer is really one in a million.
You should know: Dr. Fischer only does surgery one day a week, as he is a professor at U.C. You may have to wait longer than you want to, but the wait is worth it, believe me!!
Aftercare: A very structured program, from start to finish. Lots of information is given prior to the surgery. Support group meetings are emphasized and well attended each month.
Risks: He discussed all risks with me and I felt educated when I made my decision to have surgery.
Overall rating: 10/10
Surgical competence is obviously better, but it doesn't hurt to have a great bedside manner. Dr. Fischer has both.
DR. FISCHER IS A GREAT SURGEON. BEFORE WE EVEN MET, HE ANSWER A FEW EMAILS I SENT HIM GETTING INFO THAT I NEEDED. WHEN I FINALLY MET HIM, HE IS AS NICE AND CARING AS HE CAN BE. HIS STAFF IS FANTASTIC. HIS ASSISTANT ANNE ERISMAN IS WONDERFUL. SHE HELPED ME OUT QUITE A BIT GETTING THINGS IN ORDER FOR THE SURGERY. I AM SO GLAD I PICKED HIM FOR MY SURGEON.
Dr. Fischer is truely a wonderful surgeon and a great person. I adore him and am so thankful I picked him to do my surgery. He always makes me feel valued and like my questions are important even though I know he has probaly heard them a million times. Even if it is in the middle of the night he is more than willing to help out. :)
Dr. Fischer is very reassuring and professional. I believe he truly cares about his patient and visited me a number of times in the hospital. His office staff are absolutely wonderful-especially Anne who is always compassionate and responds quickly. She called me a number of times after my surgery to check up on me as well. I give Dr. Fischer and his staff an A++.
