Colleen Kennedy Bariatric Surgeon MD, FACS, FASMBS

I am very impressed with Dr. Kennedy and the WLS staff. They were very organized and structured with the whole process before the surgery (insurance approval, referring me for to the psychologist, sleep study center, other testing). I like that they have the nutritionist, Lauren, right there in their office. Dr. Kennedy has great bedside manners. I can be a big baby at times so I needed someone with a warm and nurturing type personality. I felt that with her. And I knew based on the high number of surgeries that she had performed that she was definitely technically qualified to handle my surgery. During our initial meeting, she explain the different surgery options and the risk involved. Together, we decided that the RNY was the best option for me. So far my aftercare has been great. I had a few problems with hydration and constipation the first few days home. I called after hours on the weekend and spoke with another Dr. on duty from their practice. Apparently, he called her and told her that I was having issues because she called to check on me several times over the next few days. I really appreciated that.

When I first met Dr. Kennedy she was very vibrant, informative, and I liked the fact that she wanted to err on the side of caution when it came to what procedure to be done. She preferred to do the gastric band on me because of my history of uterine and cervical cancer and radiation therapy. She stated that although surgeons that remove and treat cancer like this are very thorough about what they are doing, she didn't know what kind of scar tissue or adhesions they might find if they tried to do gastric bypass. This was fine with me as my husband and I had discussed it and I was really favoring the gastric banding anyway.rn When I was in the hospital and she came in to check on me, I voiced my concern about not having my CPAP machine set up. The nurse asked her about my heart rate going into the low 40's and sometimes into the 30's and she told them it was because I didn't have my CPAP and she gave directions for it to be done as soon as possible. She wasn't even out the door good before someone was helping me set it up.rn My follow up appointment with her was good and my impression of her has not changed any at all. She is a very competent surgeon with a great bedside manner, and I would highly recommend her to anyone considering WLS.rn The office staff has always been very friendly and helpful, and their nutritionist Lauren is a God send. They have a structured aftercare program with support groups available in several locations, making it more convenient for the patients.

Dr. Kennedy was my surgeon by default, and I couldn't be happier. My original surgeon saw me two times, consult and surgery. After that, it was only the PA and then a few months later, he was gone. Dr. Kennedy took over his patients and she is just the greatest. After she became my Doc., I never saw a PA again. She did all of my fills/unfills. She held my hand through every moment of the good times and the bad times. I had to have my band removed and she was just the greatest. She saw me before surgery, and in the hospital quite a few times. She told me if she had known me from the beginning, she would NOT have given me a band. I was not a good candidate due to some esophagus issuesthat my Dr. didn't catch. Anyway, we are now going to do the RNY and I couldn't feel more comfortable with her as my surgeon. She is funny, sweet, professional, on time, personable, and she really cares. She gave me all the risks, straight up. I NEVER EVER feel rushed when she is talking with me. She gives me her FULL attention. I love my Doc! She is the BEST!!

Dr. Kennedy is one of the most caring and understanding physicians I've ever met. She is very thorough and listens to everything you have to say. We made the decision together as to the type of WLS I would have, and we both agreed 1000% on the sleeve. The office staff is also very caring and professional. Always willing to answer questions. The nursing staff at the hospital where I had the surgery are super impressed with her; both as a surgeon and a caring person. They couldn't believe how well I did post-op!! The aftercare program is great with both professional support and the handouts they give you are very concise. The instructions are very easy to follow. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate her at least a 15.
Her surgical competence and bedside manner are beyond compare. I would recommend her to anyone considering weight loss surgery -- all types. I really don't have any negative comments.

I have had a long relationship with Dr Kenneday... after all, she has done surgery on my wife in August 2008, my mother in law in December 2008(the DAY AFTER Christmas--how many surgeons would do that???), and finally me in January of 2009. Over time, she has turned into one of our family.. almost like a cousin or Aunt we look forward to seeing. How many Doctors do you look forward to seeing? LOLrnrnThe Staff as WLS, I must say, was very irritating back in 2008. They have since had a large purging of those people who were not there for the patients and now are some of the most kind and easy to work with around. Some of their personalities are a little dry and stand-offish but they are professional and efficient.rnrnIf anyone is interested in Dr Kenneday, understand that you are getting an excellent surgeon who will provide you with some of the best care ever AND will really change your attitude about what bedside mannger means She will take you through it step by step and she treats her patients as if they are one of her family... going the extra mile to ensure they are well taken care of!!!rnrnAlthough she hates it when I call (she has had to operate on me 3 times... my sleeve, my gallbladder removal and to fix a hernia), she is always laughing, smiling and ready to give me a hard time and laugh with us. rnrnI cannot say enough about her...

Dr Kennedy is Very personable, Very Honest. As for her office staff I cannot say the same. First visit they lost paperwork that was sent in 3 weeks prior so had to fill out everything again, but had me sit there for an hour and a half before they let me know this. As for as getting information to the insurance company and talking to them I had to call and walk everything through because they didn't follow through. So if it was the office staff doing the surgery I probably wouldn't go through them, but since it is Dr. Kennedy and I like her so much I guess I'll put up with it. Office Staff really needs to work on their follow through for patients. Aftercare and Support Groups before and after are MANDATORY and that is great in my opinon.

Dr Kennedy saved my life and will be doing my follow up from now on. She cares about my success and health.rnrnDr Arnold impressed me as being extremely smart. The Baylor program is very thorough.rnrnDr Julie Leverton was my original surgeon but she soon left Bariatric Treatment Center. I had four different doctors in my first two post op years.

My first impression of Dr. Kennedy was this lady is crazy, but in a good way, she was very upbeat and positive and very informative. My impression never changed she has a very bubbly personality, and I don't, that was always constant. Her office staff was very nice, but not as friendly as she was but they got the job done and in the end that is all that matters. Unfortunately she is relocated at the beginning of August but if you can get in and get approved before then than go for it. My mom was so impressed with her that she actually has scheduled surgery with her at the end of June. Her aftercare is very conservative as far as the diet goes she really makes you go through all the stages at the alotted times because she wants to help your \"pouch\" heal as much as possible before you try heavy foods. She did go over all the risks with me before surgery but assured me she was going to be very careful. I think personally surgical competence has the highest degree of importance for me but a good bedside manner is important too. I would give Dr. Kennedy a 10 she is a surgical genious as far as I am concerned! I would recommend her to anyone!
