My first impression, was, oh my, he looks so young..but dont be decieved by that, he's very knowlagble..and very detailed in the surgery
The staff, found to be patient, friendly..I found him to be kind...non judgmental..and very caring of your fears..questions..
I have just recently been approved for my surgery, and I must say, I trust him..he comes very well recommended..and his knowlege, when he talks, proves it.
Dr. Evanson is very young, but very knowledgable. His staff is wonderful and kind. They are always willig to go the extra mile. I have a friend that was having the surgery a month after me and with a different Doctor. She was very concerned about Dr. Evansons age & experience. We later found out that Dr. Evanson taught her doctor how to preform the RNY laproscopicaly. Just because someone is young does not mean they are no qualified to do a terrific job. Dr. Evanson has me come in for follow ups every couple of months. He stressed the importance of following the dietary plan & attendence of the support group meetings. After each of my appointments with Dr. Evanson I go & see the dietitian. I am very pleased with Dr. Evanson, his staff & the bariatric staff at St. Vincent (Carmel) Hospital. I have had no problems and a ton of support.
My first impression of Dr Evanson was ... um, he looks very young. I interviewed a lot of surgeons before making my final choice. It was important to me to have the BEST doctor around. I was chosing to have an elective surgery that may cost me my life. So i did my research and found teh best doctor i could. That was Dr. Evanson.
He's very down to earth, he's a rare surgeon who actually has a personality. Easy to understand. Fun to joke with and seems like a normal person. Im one year out now and he's never criticized my progress. Ive had 4 fills that were PAINLESS and he aims for the sweet spot with each fill. In other words he gives aggressive fills. :)
What made me pick him over all other doctors?
During my interview i asked him... "how may lap-bands have you placed, i know the learning curve is 50 and this is important to me" His reply was.. "learning curve is 50 but 20 for me" he was confident in his skills and that made me confident in him.
He also once made the comment that he could crank lap-bands out 1 an hour. They are a piece of cake to do. That confidence made him "the" doctor for me. Im very happy with him and his staff. He comes highly recommended from me.
In my opinion he's the best wls doctor there is in indiana. And i interviewed a LOT of surgeons including his own partners. =P
He is the best in my book.

When I first met Dr. Evanson, I thought what in the world does this young boy know about being overweight and doing any time of surgery. He looked like he was just starting high school, not a medical school graduate.
All I can say is that once he opened his mouth, started answering all of my questions, and began his presentation I had to change my mind set about him. He is a very compassionate, honest, straight forward wonderful doctor.
Dr. Evanson always said that he had the best office staff in Indiana. Until I had discussions and visited his office, I thought right, all doctors say that about their staff. Once again, Dr. Evanson was right. His office staff is the greatest. They are the best, but they failed to follow my instructions to provide me with copies of all of the paperwork I left with his office staff.
Dr. Evanson indicated that the surgery is only a tool for you to get to where you want to be in life. You, the patient. have to do the work. He indicated that exercise is the best thing that you can do to get on the road. I was so excited because when I called his office staff today 9/3/04 to see if I can begin my water aerobic classes, I was told yes.
All of the surgical risks were thoroughly discussed. I appreciated this more than anything.
I feel that both surgical competence and bedside manner are equally important.
When I first heard Dr. Evanson speak during the initial group consultation in Dec. 2003, I was impressed with his compassion for the morbidly obese. When I met with him 1-1 later that day, I was impressed with his professionalism. He is a kind and caring person. While in the hospital, I was comfortable with his care. My admiration for him has continued to grow in my postop visits. He truly cares about his patients and wants them to succeed. He is encouraging and supportive and takes the time to answer all of my questions without seeming rushed. As an RN for 25 years, I have met alot of surgeons. Many of them are technically proficient, but emotionally cold. Dr. Evanson makes me feel that he has a personal stake in my success and encourages me to reach my full potential. What more could you ask for in a surgeon? I have only had positive experiences with his office staff. I highly recommend Dr. Evanson to anyone considering this surgery.
