Dr. Cobourn was terrific. He came by to see me pre- and post-op, called me the next day to see how I was doing....kept my hisband informed while I was in recovery... he was able to fix my unexpectedly large hiatus hernia during my lap band surgery. I would highly recommend him and his staff/clinic to anyone.

My first impression of Dr. Cobourn was gained over the phone during our initial consultation. He seemed professional, very positive, upbeat and very knowledgeable. He put me at ease right away (although both of our cell phones kept dying!!). When I met him in person, the day of my surgery, my initial impression was solidified. He is just great to deal with. He made me feel very much at ease with what I was doing.rnrnThe office staff, nurses and anesthesiologist at the Surgical Weight Loss Centre in Mississauga were all fantastic. They were very professional, efficient and friendly. They let me know every step of the way what was about to happen and I felt very well cared-for.rnrnI wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Cobourn and his team to anyone going through Lap-Band surgery.

He is an excellent, extremely skilled surgeon who trains all the other bariatric surgeons on how to perform lapband surgery in Canada. He was the Chief of Staff at Mississauga Trillium Health Centre and also performs cancer surgery as well as other major surgeries.rnrnHe's very friendly, caring and an upbeat doctor. He really cares about his patients. I wish I could have him as my family doctor.rnrnHe runs an extremely busy clinic in Mississauga and he recently hired more staff so things run more smoothly.rnrnHe encourages patients to check in once a month to let them know who you're doing and he recently started webcasts of professionals giving talks about various aspects of weightloss surgery.rnrnIn short, he is extremely competent, has a very good bedside manner and he is very confident and makes you feel confident too. I wasn't the least bit afraid of having this surgery after I consulted with him. I like the fact that he always reassures you.rnrnThe only problem I experienced was that I had a lot of scar tissue around my port area because I had previously attempted the surgery in August of 2006 but it couldn't be completed because he didn't have long enough tools to effectively get at the stomach and move the liver and fat around. I cried when he told me he couldn't complete it. I had it redone on Dec. 19th at which time he had the proper length of tools and it was a success. He told me the operation took 3.5 hours but I had an extremely large abdomen and it wasn't easy going through all the fat. Now I had even more scar tissue after the second operation so it then made it very difficult for him to get the needle into my port and as a result, my port and tubing was leaking and I didn't know it until 5 months after the surgery. I only felt restricted a couple of times and only for a couple of days and I kept gaining weight. I told him and his nurse about that and the nurse thought I was eating junk which I wasn't so I became very upset that they didn't believe me. Finally the doctor had me do my last fill under a fluro at the hospital at which time he discovered the leaks.rnrnI had a new port and tubing put in on May 1st and so far everything is working great! I've finally started dropping weight and feel so much better. I only wish I didn't have to go through this operation 3 times!rnrn

Dr. Cobourn treated me with the most caring and understanding bedside manner. He made me feel like I was the most important person at that time. Dr. Cobourn and his staff were just excellent and most professional, I would recommend him to anyone that is looking into WLS. He has a very structured aftercare and wants weekly reports on my weight lost journey. He explained all the risks and ways to avoid some of the problems that could occur. I would rate Dr. Cobourn and his team very high as they are all caring individuals that want to help people to a better life. With surgery and bedside manner I was treated very well and with the greatest respect.
