I'm very happy with my experience and results!
Dr. Cook left a good impression on me after our first visit. He was genuine in his concern for my safety and very upfront and honest. I could tell just from talking with him that he is experienced and takes every precauction necessary to prepare for an uneventful surgery.

Dr. Charles Cook at The Ohio State University performed by RNY bypass. I chose OSU because of their throrough pre-op process. I wanted to make sure I went through a program that would properly prepare me for surgery...and not just push me through like a cash register. I had to have Medicaid approval before I could begin their process. Dr. Cook was great, very kind and throrough in his explanations. His office staff was always attentive and returned calls, etc.rnrnNow, in Florida, Dr. Patricia Byers is following my care. She is an excellent surgeon...but often lacks the immediate compassion...it's there deep down...but it's not shown...when her first concern is for your life...you feelings might get over looked. But I'm willing to deal with for the best surgeon...I'll be asleep when she is operating on me...and I have loved one around for the emotional support I need.

Dr. Cook is a really great guy. He has no qualms about making certain you understand the seriousness of the operation and what is expected after. I was privileged to have someone in the operating room that I knew, and she told me that he's the kind of surgeon that is there to do it right, and if your vitals change or something he will stop and wait as opposed to having the anethesiologist deal with it as he goes on. This may not seem like a big deal, but it demonstrates that he is committed to giving you his very best. Be prepared to see someone who's in medical school before he comes in at the office visit- OSU is a teaching facility and a medical school student will likely do your history. Also be prepared to see residents while you are there for your stay. One of the beautiful things about OSU is that they are very well equipped for this surgery and they see enough patients with it. I highly recommend him, even though he is pretty booked up, don't lose faith.

i met dr cook on thursday the 4th of nov.2004 i thought that he's so young.lol we did alot of talking about the surgery and what i wanted and what i would get from it. i do have to admit that his resadent(sp
) made me cry when i got back to the hotel. noone has ever told me to my face that i was severly obese before. i had my surgey the next day due to a cancallion.i could not have asked for a better experance every one in the hospital took such great care and made my stay the best it could have been

I was impressed at his concern, his objectivity, his sincerity. His office staff was very pleasant and excited for me that I was going to have this surgery. At OSU Hospital in Columbus, OH you must go through a length education, so that you know and understand the committment. there is a bariatric treatment team that meets and discusses your case. I have no regrets. Aftercare is much more important that preop. Their aftercare program is very supportive. You can be as active as you want, but I am telling you--you don't want to miss out on the support and encouragement that he, the team and his staff offer. I have no quams recommending him. He is very caring & very competant. He wants you to succeed. He addressed every risk and concern and made sure I understood. I didn't feel rushed, He sat down and first off asked if I was ready to be replumed! What a sense of humor. I know this might sound hokey but I have not had a negative experience yet. My surgery is two weeks away.

After trying to go thru the BTC of Groveport and having trouble with them being out of network with United Health Care, I have changed insurances to Aetna and filled out an application for OSU Weight Management. I have heard wonderful things about the program.I am patiently (??) waiting for them to call me to set up my first appointment. I will keep you updated!!!!
I am now waiting for an appointment with Dr. Cook. He is part of the surgery team at OSU. I was told that I am high risk, and he will be my surgeon.
I have finally met Dr. Cook. I felt very comfortable with him. He seems very friendly, professional, and I feel that he will take execellent care of me. His office staff was very friendly. He addressed all my questions and then some. He addressed all the risks of surgery, and what he would do to keep me safe from them. I took my mother and husband to my appointment. We all really liked him, and felt good about him. He was very nice and didn't seem rushed at all.
Dr. Cook did a great job with my surgery. He came out after surgery and told my family that everything went well. I was only dissapointed in his bed side manner. I did not see him at all after surgery, or the next 2 days in the hospital. I ran into him on the way out of the hospital when going home. Surgery was on Friday, and it was a weekend. Just a little dissapointed. I had questions that I wanted to ask him about my surgery. The doctors and interns that came in didn't do my surgery. This is just my opinion! I would go to him again without a thought!!!!!! He did a wonderful job!!!! I would rate him a 10 !!! He has done a wonderful job on me and my new tummy. No complications at all!!!
He does not have a aftercare program. After about 3 months you are on your own. You have to go to your PCP. He wants you to call if you have any problems, but overall he has done his work and you are free to live your new life.

I was very impressed that he was so down to earth and patient with me. He explained everything very well and answered all my questions. His office staff is effecient and VERY busy. Don't waste their time with questions that you can research on your own and they will be very helpful to you. I did not like that with the OSU program, you do not meet your surgeon until you are ready for surgery and have all your classes completed. I think that you should get to meet him first and decide whether you want him or not. The OSU program is very structured and they have the "hoops" that you will have to jump through all lined up for you. All you have to do is have the patience to wait until you get thru all of them. Dr. Cook went over all the risks with me and emphasized what I would need to do for aftercare. Overall I rate him before surgery an 8.

I went to see Dr.Cook January 10, 2002!I still can/t get over the thought of going to this surgeon because I had his Dad for a surgeon when I was 16yrs.old!It is going to take awhile to get over this one!But I met him He answer all my question and He told me every thing I need to know!Plus I have a date for surgery! My big day is 2-6-2002.Which it is on a Wednesday! My surgery time is 10:30 in the morning! He is a great surgeon!
