i love dr. brient. his staff is wonderful. my only problem is that your appointment will almost aways take longer than you think but it is because dr. brient listens to all of his patients and the wait is okay because the people in the waiting room are so nice. some pre-op and some post-op we are almost always laughing at some story or another.

Dr. Brient is great! He has a great bedside manner. He goes over the history of the surgery with you, let's you know how long he's been doing it and his mortality and leak rate up front (which is I believe 2 in 20+ years). His aftercare program is 18 months. I am very glad that I chose him.

I think he is the best person/ surgon in the world, he makes me feel safe and that he realy cares.

My first impression of him was a very good one. Dr Brient just gives off a sense of comfort. You can tell just a few minutes into talking to him that not only is he VERY knowledgable but he is also genuinely concerned about his patients. Since then, my opinion has gotten better of him. The office staff has always been courteous & helpful. He and his staff are very concerned about aftercare. Infact you have to agree to thier aftercare in a 18 mo program. Im glad they give all the support they do. Dr Brient, during the orientation visit not only went over all the risks but spent like over an hr going over the history and evolution of this procedure. He encouraged me to interrupt him with any questions at any time & got right back on track when I was thru asking. I would rate him an 11 on a scale of 1-10. As far as whats better, surgical competence or bedside manner goes, I would have to say competence. However, I truly beleive that a good bedside manner makes all the difference in the world when it comes to making your decision to do the surgery, how you feel in the way of fears going into surgery as well as your recovery. Dr Brient fits both bills to a T! I would drive or fly across the country if I had to in order for him to have been my surgeon for such a risky procedure.

Dr.Brient seems to be very nice. He ask me questions about my health and such. He also told me about the surgery as well as drawing out each step.
The Office Staff were all very nice, and had things under control.
They offer after care I think it is 18 months.

For months I have been having problems with the insurance company and the billing code submitted by my Doctor. I finally got to the point where I was seeking another doctor. Today, Dr. Brient took the time to call me personally and make me aware that he has given his staff the OK to schedule me for suurgery. Those words were like music to my ears. I was getting dicouraged and actually made an appointment for a consultation with another doctor. I was getting upset because I really like Dr. Brient and his bedside manner. Dr Brient has always been honest with me and he has kept me up with the latest with the insurance issues. I would encourage all of you to seek Dr. Brient if you are considering this surgery.

My first impression of Dr. Brient was that he really cared and wanted to helpme.
I still believe that to be true.
I was somewhat put off on my first office visit by the dietician. She was not real warm and friendly. Ifelt that she was trying to pigeon hole me to fit a category and was not listening to me as an individual.
The thing I like the least about Dr. Brient's office are the long waits every time I have an office visit.
My aftercare involved structured scheduled visits at intervals of 2 weeks,1 month,3 months,6 months, 1 year, and my final scheduled visit was at 18 months. I have been formally released from care, but are able at any time to contact them if I need them.
The risks and post op stay (for me in ICU) were discussed in detail.
I would rate him at the top, I would repeat it all tomorrow.
Both competence and bedside manner are important, and thankfully Dr. Brient has both, but if he didn't competence is far more important than conversation.

First Impression of office was wonderful. Jodie, the receptionist, did everything possible to get me a initial consult date as soon as possible and I got in in less than 3 weeks. First impression of Doctor, he is great. He has a great personality, made me feel at ease, his wife is the nurse and she is wonderful too. He explained everything in detail (good and bad) and told me it was up to me to make it work. Follow all the rules and it will be successful. Told me exercise is #1 importance after surgery - walk, walk, and walk; breathe, breathe, breathe, cough, cough, cough. Also, he has a great 18 month after care program (which I feel is extremely important). I will be having the open RNY and because I don't have any co-morbidities,

February 17, have a surgery date it is March 21, 2002. Go in for my pre-op tests on March 12 and see pulmonary doc on March 14.

March 12, had the pre-op tests today. 1) 3 vials blood drawn, no big deal. 2) Pulmonary tests for breathing, no problem. ABG's (Artery blood gas) drawn, did not hurt going in, hurt alittle when needle came out. Arm was sore for a couple hours. 3) Chest X-rays, no problem 4) Upper GI series, Well I can't say I would want to do this once a month. Barrium is unpleasant, however they make you drink it very fast while they are taking pictures so if you can stick with it for just a few minutes it is over. Just keep your mind on your goal.

I am getting very nervous about my upcoming surgery date. However, am trying to keep it in perspective. I have had surgery in the past and everything was fine. Am getting all my ducks in order and concentrating on my two little boys.

Dr. Brient was great. At the initail meeting he described the procedure. He asked me about my history with dieting. He even drew the surgery and told me where my incision would be. He also, explained the risk and benefits to me personally, as well as generally. He was very friendly and professional. As far as surgery is concerned, he talked to me right before they rolled me into the surgery room. He asked me if I was ready and put me at ease with his words. After surgery, he talked to my family and explained that everything went well. Further, during my hospital stay he was very encouraging. He was the person that found out I was not receiving my pain medication properly. He always smiled and told me what I needed to do (like walk). He even took out half my stapples before I left the hospital. At the week later appointment, he took out the rest of the stapples and talked to me about how I was feeling. He has a structured after care program that says what you are suppose to eat and do. I have heard nothing but good things about him. I would recommend him to anyone. The only negative thing that I would say is he visits you late in the evening in the hospital. But hey, I wasn't going anywhere. He is the best.
