Had a fabulous experience with Dr. Long at Sibley Hospital in DC. He was caring, direct, kind, and extremely good about answering questions. the office staff is above-average. it's a small-ish program so there's a lot of attention paid to each patient. Brian Wallace, the FNP who runs the program was always available on the phone for questions, concerns, fears, etc. very friendly and knowledgeable and i felt very well taken care of.
dr long has great surgical competence and very good bedside manner. one issue i did have in the hospital was not getting some maintenance medications with very nasty side effects if stopped suddenly, which was a problem that i've addressed with him
i would go back to dr. long and the program at sibley without hesitation. from surgeon to office staff it's a top-notch program.

Hello, my lapband surgery was on 11/3/08 at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC with Dr Brian Long. Today I am full of energy and enjoy life much more than before the surgery - 55 pounds healthier thanks to Dr Long and his staff. My journey began by attending a free orientation meeting in September ‘08. The staff was very helpful in explaining my options and how to get through the insurance maze. I was able to schedule my surgery in record time. A major benefit to Dr Long’s practice is their multi-disciplinary approach - one stop shopping (psychologist, nutritionist, personal trainer, monthly support groups, etc) all in one location. Carolyn Maxwell walks you through your various appointments and keeps you on track. Kelley Osborne, nurse practitioner, follows up on all your pre-op medical requirements. Buzz gets you going on a realistic exercise program. Jodi works on the nutrition angle. And Dr Long makes sure you are thoroughly prepared for your surgery by patiently answering all of your pre-op questions, even those your mother wants to know the answers to. I attended a support group meeting even before my surgery to get feedback from others who had already had WLS at Sibley Hospital with Dr Long. The care I received at Sibley the day of surgery was beyond my expectations (and I am a nurse practitioner too). Very caring, sensitive and professional. I was doing laps walking around the ICU the morning of discharge from the hospital. The nursing staff was surprised to say the least. I felt so energized after surgery that I attended the monthly support group meeting the day after I got home (my mother drove of course). The bottom line is this: WLS is a tool and you must have a realistic understanding of what it can do and cannot do. You must make a lifelong commitment to healthier eating habits on a daily basis and learn new behaviors. You will experience joy through physical activity and being active. Learn healthy ways to deal with stress. Attend the monthly support group meetings. Be kind to yourself and learn to forgive. You can do this. What your mind can conceive and believe your body will achieve. Good luck on your journey.rnrnPS The only suggestion I have to make is to be sure to confirm your sessions with Buzz, personal trainer, as his schedule sometimes changes.rn

I decided to embark on a weight loss journey in January of 2008. I attended a seminar held by the Weight Loss Surgery Staff at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC. This seminar proved to be very helpful in helping me to choose Dr. Long's practice for my journey. His office staff is great and easy to work with. They are quite efficient in scheduling and are available to answer any and all of your questions. I would recommend this site to anyone in the Metro Washington, DC Area who is looking for a qualified surgeon.
Dr. Long is very friendly and informative. His staff are very friendly and helpful as well. They set up all of your appointments and make sure all the paperwork is done. This was a huge plus to me. Dr. Long works with a nurse practioner, Kelly Osborne CRNP, and she too is very helpful and supportive. There is a bariatric team you work with that far exceeded my expectations. I feel very comfortable with my decision to have Dr. Long and his team take care of me.
Dr Long is wonderful, so is the staff. I cant say good enough things about them. I had the lapband in february, and whenever I have a question or concern they immediately answer it. rnDr Long is very thorough, he goes over all of the various surgery options with you, and makes sure you are making the best decision for yourself. He clearly explains all the details of the surgery and what to expect. rnThe program is great as well. A comprehensive before and aftercare program is required and monthly support groups are great. Dr Long makes you feel like you are in great hands, and he has such an excellent bedside manner. I highly recommend him and the program. In my opinion, its the only place to go in DC!
