Dr. Joya gave me complete confidence that he knew exactly what he was doing. Everything went fine for me, which I believe had something to do with following his directions exactly and my age. I would recommend him for people considering WLS surgery without hesitation. His staff is also wonderful. My best advice is to bring someone with you to Mexico to advocate for you in the early post-op period. The nurses don't always understand what you are saying and you are too exhausted to repeat yourself.

Dr Joya and his staff were awesome. So caring and concerned. i developed a breathing issue the second day after surgery and they were right on top of it and I was better by the next evening. They come to visit you everyday after you leave the hospital until you leave the country and I can't say enough great things about them. I would come back here in a heartbeat! Infact, I hope I can, as a tourist for fun!

As with any of these surgeons, you will spend more time with their coordinators but my experience was good. He was very straightforward. Dr. Espinoza followed up every day in the hotel. Despite the language barriers, I was able to understand the nurses and they were able to understand me. My 10 words of spanish got me by.rnrnIn Mexico, all the business and instruction is done by Nathalie. Very competent and always in motion. The experience from the airport on was perfectly executed from a logistics perspective.rnrnI would definitely recommend the whole experience. Puerta Vallarta is a great place to recover so we walked all over the city, enjoyed the beaches and pools, sun and fun. rnrnIt was much smoother than I expected, the pain level much lower, my activity level much higher and my weight loss much faster than I expected it. rnrnQuibbles? (and they are minor.rn1. There are nicer hotels in PV to stay in. But if you do, you have to go to the hospital for your daily follow up instead of having them see you in the Krystal. We'll probably go back next spring and stay in Nueva Vallarta. Pristine Resorts in Nueva Vallarta.rnrn2. I paid with my American Express Card. I knew there would be a fee but it ended up being 37 peso's per dollar. Gerald told me it would come thru somewhat higher but it ended up being $300. Since I travel internationally I'm used to charging $100 and having it show up at $101. That's what I thought he meant that with the exchange rate, it would be more. I didn't realize that the Hospital recovered the 3% fee that AMEX charges by applying a higher exchange rate. (10.80 vs the 10.43 I got on all my other AMEX charges) Totally my fault for not listening carefully enough.rnrn3. American Airlines cancelled my flight coming home. If they had called me, I would have just stayed a couple more days. Since they didn't I spent a couple hours in the Airport getting a routing home.

He is a wonderful caring soft spoken man and his team is just as wonderful.rnrnThe entire trip was completely smooth they arranged everything down to money for a cab back and forth to the hospital from the hotel.Driver was waiting for us upon arrival in Mexico to take us to Hotel, very low stress.rnrnHe explains everything day of surgery and goes thru it completely and answers all questions. He is very conservative and keeps you hospital for 4 nights and it is three days before you even get ice. I feel that this is the reason my recovery is going so well.rnrnAs a surgeon I would rate hime the best I have ever met or had as a person I consider him a saint as he saved me from the complications of Diabetes. He is fabulous surgeon and has great bedside manner

I am over a year out from surgery--I have lost 176 lbs and can not be happier. Dr Joya and his whole staff were wonderful to me while I was in Puerto Vallarta. They were very caring and helpful. I had all the information I needed to make my decision and I have absolutely no regrets in my surgical choice. I want to thank everyone so much for being able to get to a much healthier me!

Dr. Joya and his team were great! Very attentive and made me feel right at home.

Dr Joya and his team are extremely professional, attentive and the entire experience is very well executed. He works out of a hospital not a clinic and you will never see so many doctors and nurses on a daily basis both during your stay at the hospital or your recovery at a 5 star resort afterward. Full instructions on what to expect as well as afterward with diet stages and exercise. Monthly calls for follow up as well as referals to OH for support. And all inclusive - no surprises. Excellent experience.

Dr.Joya is very calm and friendly. He makes you feel comfortably at ease right away. He discussed all options and risks and helped me chose the most appropriate procedure \"for me\". I know many people who have been to him for weight loss surgeries and have had wonderful things to say about him, his team, and his professionalism.

I am proud to recommend Dr. Joya and his medical team to anyone who is seriously considering weight loss surgery. I chose Dr Joya to from a long list of Bariatric Surgeons based on his experience, education, specialization and patient testimonials and I am very saticfied. I was confident in my decision before I even met Dr Joya, but that confidence grew immensely after actually interacting with him.rnI underwent the Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass on 26-Nov-2007 at the Cornerstone Hospital in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. The surgery was successful and there were no complications of any kind. This was primarily due to the competence of the doctors and surgeons; however, the nursing staff and the pre-op diet and balloon exercises also played an important roll.rnI was struck by how compassionate, friendly and modest all of the surgeons and doctors were. They did not make me feel unimportant or insignificant in any way (which is common when dealing with many western medical doctors). I was also struck how each Doctor made a point to touch me either by shaking my hand or patting my leg each time they visited me in the hospital or hotel. This really made me feel important and cared for. rnThey also took strides to make my family feel at ease and to answer their questions. This was important because my mother and sister both work in the health care field and my decision to have surgery in Mexico was a bit unsettling for them. My mother and sister were both very impressed and satisfied with the care I received.rnThe language barrier was not an issue with my nurses at the Cornerstone. In fact, I felt that I was in very good hands and would like to post a ‘thankyou’ to Ruben, Yolanda, Janey, Ignatio and Drossa for being so gentle and kind.rnThe doctors and surgeons were fantastic! I was visited by 5 the morning following surgery (Drs Joya, Espinoza, Olivares, Martinez and Rodregez?) and then from 3-4 each day following during my stay in the hospital. I was also checked on daily while at the hotel.rnI have absolutely no complaints or regrets regarding my decision to have the bypass surgery and would like to thank all of the Medical Staff for taking such good care of me in Puerto Vallarta. rn*A special thanks to Dr Olivares and Nathalie for just being wonderful!rnI would be more than happy to share my experience with anyone who is considering Dr Joya and/or the procedure I had.
