Armando Joya Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
I just had sugery with Dr. Joya on March 21st, my first impression was "He's hotter in person," actually he looked at me and said "are you scared? I said yes, well, don't worry, you'll be fine," he made me feel very comfertable. The nurses where very friendly the hospital was very clean and his staff where very very nice. "I just can't say enough about Dr. Joya, only that he made a tough decision into an easy experience," I'm very happy with my decision.
Dr Joya is kind and has a good bed side manner. Natalie is great, the best! They coordinate the trip well, make sure you have enough time to connect airlines. I didnt on the way home and had to run 1 day post op, NOT GOOD. Remember you will have to recheck your luggage on the connection home, since you are coming from an international destination. Ask for wheelchair assistance when you board the first plane.
There was nothing I didn't like about Dr Joya. Personally I could have used a stronger pain medication postop, since I was hurting quite a bit, thats really my only complaint postop.
Dr Joya, Natalie and Gerald give you your diet plans and preop diet. I think the aftercare was explained, if you have questions, email Gerald, he is great at explaining and getting back to you promptly. Risks were explained just as well as in any surgery in the U.S. I rate the entire process an 8 or 9. I could never have the lapband if it wasn't for them!
I think surgical competence is outstanding, bedside manner great too. Dr Joya looks you in the eye, doesn't look down on you for being fat, he pats you on the hand, etc. Great bedside manner and professional too.
If I could do it again I would! I would say it is helpful to bring someone and would be great to do some fun things before the surgery, but it can be done alone!

I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS WHATSOEVER ABOUT DR. JOYA. EVERYONE ON HIS STAFF TAKES EXCELLENT CARE OF YOU. HE ANSWERED ALL OF MY QUESTIONS, HE CAME TO MY ROOM EVERYDAY TO ASK IF I HAD ANY PROBLEMS OR CONCERNS. HIS ASSISTANTS CAME TO VISIT AT LEAST ONCE OR TWICE A DAY. NO ONE EVER ACTED HURRIED. YOU ALWAYS FELT AS IF YOU WERE THE ONLY PATIENT THEY HAD. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND DR. JOYA TO ANYONE CONSIDERING GOING TO MEXICO TO HAVE THIS SURGERY. THE HOSPITAL WAS VERY MODERN, CLEAN, AND UP TO DATE.
I haven't got to meet Dr. Joya yet, but his assistant, Gerald, has been extremely friendly. He has been absolutely amazing and patient with me. It took me forever to figure out the financing and everything and he was always so understanding. I look forward to meeting Dr. Joya and the rest of his staff.
I cannot say enough good things about Dr Joya and his staff. My experience was extremely positive and all went very well. All the Dr's I had contact with were wonderful and had great bedside manner.
I was visited in the hospital at least 2 times per day by doctors and then 1 time per day once I was in the hotel.
The hospital was clean and the staff was great. I feel that I received better care than I would have here at home.
Dr. Joya and his whole team of doctors and Natalie were absolutely wonderful while I was there in Puerto Vallarta. Everyone was very attentive and you felt very safe. I never second guessed my choice even one time while I was there. You can tell when people are genuine and sincerely care about their patients and this is absolute the case with them!
My first impression was, "he is so young!!!". But when I met Dr. Joya in person, he was very kind, gentle and experienced. Dr. Joya's staff was the best! Couldn't expect better! The only thing I would change would be to have the nurses at the hospital speak some english. Future patients should feel confident in their decision of Dr. Joya as their surgeon. Dr. Joya and his staff are always available by phone or email for any aftercare issues or questions. I would rate Dr. Joya and his staff A+!
I just CANNOT say enough good things about Dr. Joya. He is so kind, so focused, and so skilled that it has ruined American doctors for me forever. I never felt nervous about his ability and I felt confident in his care. My first impression of him was "I'm in good hands" and that never changed. His staff is awesome and all his doctors are fantastic. They check on you daily after you are discharged and are available so fast when you need them. They do give you a lot of aftercare information, but of course you can't fly there monthly to check in so a good primary care physician is wonderful for when you come back. Dr. Joya emphasizes that you HAVE to follow directions in order to be successful. He never treats the surgery as an end in itself, but a means to the end. He addressed all the risks of surgery and made sure to give me time to think of questions I had. I never felt rushed or like a number. All of the people I met down there felt like they were his only patient, which is a true testimony to his care. Finally, the hospital he uses is wonderful and his nurses are amazing. They don't overload nurses with a ton of people and that helps the care a lot, too. American medicine could really take a page from the way Dr. Joya provides modern technology with old-fashioned caring.
